It was bath day for the pugs today. They just enjoyed their last bath of 2010! Okay maybe the word "enjoyed" isn't exactly accurate. They tolerate baths but saying they enjoy them might be a stretch! They get baths frequent enough that they aren't holy terrors when bath time does arrive they're used to it and spoiled to the fact they get a rawhide afterwards. I'm sure Simon's thought process during the bath is for me to please hurry so he can get to his bone that he's so sure will be offered at the conclusion of his bath.
I just got done putting my Christmas decorations away too. I've been busy this afternoon! It's not as much fun putting them away as it is getting them out. A couple of years ago I realized I enjoy going into the new year with the undecorating chore over with. Maybe I shouldn't look at it as a chore but I do.
I'm thinking about doing a little bit of baking later. My boyfriend loves gingerbread cookies. I haven't taken the time to make him some due to the fact they take a lot of time(rolling, cooling, and decorating). I definitely want to bake him some before the holiday season is completely over.
We are still deciding on what our New Year's Eve plans will be. Go out and do something or stay in and kick back. One thing is for sure the pugs are staying in!

My First NHL Game!
One of my gifts for Christmas from my boyfriend was tickets to the Dallas Stars vs. the Phoenix Coyotes being played the day after Christmas. Awesome! Not only was it my first ever hockey game but it was my first time inside the American Airlines Center(AAC for short). A great arena! Much better than US Airways Center. Doesn't seem like the fans have trashed the arena as much as US Airways Center has been abused. Every time I've been to US Airways Center I've always been appalled at the abused seats that are all scratched up. Not to mention the very non flattering flooring that is on the main level, it looks like plain old cement with glossy paint thrown over it. After seeing the AAC it really is a mystery to me as to why Steve Nash chose to go to the Suns and not resign with Dallas?
We drove by Victory Square outside the arena which had a huge video board, lots of attractive lights and action. I had no idea about Victory Square until Sunday night. The entire time I was like a little kid on Christmas morning with wide eyes as I took in all the sights in and around the arena. It was slightly cold inside the arena which I was prepared for. After all there's a giant rink in the middle of things. Of course it's going to be a little cold. I got a new coat for Christmas too(courtesy of my boyfriend as well) so I was nice and warm!
I'm still catching on to the game of hockey but I have watched enough to know what it's about for the most part. Did I root like a dork for Phoenix inside the AAC? Of course not. I'm smarter than that. The Coyotes won! I cheered for Dallas the whole time though. It's awesome that my first NHL game and my first time at the AAC featured my hometown team and my new home team.
To my boyfriend, thanks so much for the great evening at the AAC. It was truly a special night! A great Christmas gift that I'll always remember!

Christmas Season!
The boys are sporting brand new collars from Christmas! They needed new collars I could actually operate. I haven't been able to unclasp their old collars so every time the boys needed a bath they got one with their collars on. One time Simon and I had a pulling contest as I tried to tug at his collar to get it over his big 'ol head.
I think the saying "it is better to give than receive" is definitely true for me. I was so excited to give my gifts for certain people. Another thing that I love to discuss once a gift has been given is the story of the gift. Why and how I got that particular gift. The stories about carrying numerous packages through the mall. This is the first year I've ever bought so much stuff at a mall that I wished for a cart like I could use at Target or Kroger. I'm not totally serious about malls have shopping carts since they get so busy but for a brief second I thought it would've been a good idea at least 2 different times during the shopping season.
I hope all had a wonderful Christmas and is now gearing up for a great New Year. Geesh, already 2011!

Cardinals-Cowboys Game!
I did mean to put a Merry Christmas message on my blog but I ended up getting distracted by the Cardinals vs. Cowboys game on Christmas night. I'm happy the Cardinals won but I wouldn't have been upset if the the Cowboys would've won. For me now it was a winner either way type of thing!
I see the amount of Cowboys fans that attend when the Cowboys are in town hasn't changed from when I was a youngster. While watching the game I found myself getting annoyed at the cheering Cowboys fans that I kept hearing in the background. Here's the thing, if you are from Dallas or even Texas and you go to the game in AZ by all means cheer for your HOME STATE team. However, if you are a born and raised Zonie please refrain from cheering for the opposing side in your own backyard. I've been to too many Cards games growing up to believe for one second that all those cheering fans on Christmas day were Texans that were enjoying AZ. There were Zonies mixed in I'm sure of it!
I just wish people in AZ had more respect for AZ but then again that has been one of my biggest complaints about my home state since I was a young teen. Have a little respect for the hometown team, look at it as being a winner either way! In an additional post I will revisit this issue. But that's enough for now!

My Christmas Shopping!
I truly planned on being done with my Christmas shopping by the end of today. That's not going to happen. This has been a weird year in the way of Christmas shopping. I have a few people that are super easy to get for. I've known for many months what I was going to get my boyfriend. And a few other people are easy to buy gift cards for because they reply to messages I send them. Those of you that didn't respond you know who you are! However, I also have been dealing with serious indecisiveness on what to buy for a few key people on my list. Mainly my mom! Buying for mom was slightly difficult...couldn't make up my mind!
I believe I pulled off a first for myself with my gifts this year....I took a gift back already before I even gave it to the person it was purchased for. The store that I took it back to wasn't exactly thrilled I was returning it before even giving it to someone. That was an interesting take back!
Well, I look forward to finishing my shopping hopefully tomorrow. Then it's on to wrapping and sending! I love wrapping!

My Cell Phone Story!
I finally got a new cell phone. I tend to keep cell phones way too long. Each time I upgrade I ask myself why I didn't upgrade sooner. I had to get a new one since I lost my old phone. I did spend a couple days looking for the old one before replacing it. However the story doesn't end there.
I don't take myself too seriously I know I can be somewhat of a dork sometimes. I have my not so brilliant moments. Don't we all? And I don't mind admitting to my dumbness! So read on...
This past Saturday, exactly one week after I purchased my new cell phone, I went out shopping for of course Christmas presents. I was not dressed for the icy wind that was going to greet me once I got out shopping, luckily I keep a light coat in my car at all times. I wore this coat all afternoon. I did notice something with the hood of the coat felt a little weird, I kept it on though without giving it too much thought. When I got home after hours and hours of shopping with that coat on I took it off and hung it over the chair. As I was hanging it the hood happened to brush against my arm, I noticed something was in the hood. I then reached in and pulled out my "lost" cell phone. I looked and looked and looked for that phone. I shook that coat inside the car but apparently I didn't shake it in a way that caused the phone to fall out. Furthermore, can you believe I walked around shopping in numerous stores with a cell phone in my hood! What a dork I am! It just cracks me up the entire thing! LOL!
I thought for a brief second about taking the new phone back but I quickly changed my mind because I love my new phone and the other one would feel like an old dinosaur phone to me now. The best part is that the old phone was found which means I didn't lose any of my photos I still have them all on the memory card from the old phone. Still what a dork I am!

Cody's Birthday!
Today is my dear sweet Cody-Man's birthday. His 9th birthday! Where has the time gone? I remember very clearly the day I got little Cody. And boy was he little! When we would take rides in the car he would ride in a box. He stayed in the box so well, never trying to get out until I got him out.
My grandparents got a real kick out of little Cody when I first showed him to them. My grandmother especially couldn't get over how small he was. During that first introduction my grandma insisted on giving him some milk just to see if he liked it. He did!
Each year my dogs get cake for their birthdays. I used to buy it from a dog bakery. Since moving to TX no dog bakery exists. I now have to bake it myself. I baked Cody's cake today and I got to use my new mixer. Great fun!
Cody always gets a Christmas toy and a bag of treats for his b-day. Cody opened all 3 gifts this year. Simon assisted on the food gift but once he realized he wasn't going to be able to eat the treat right away he lost interest. It was then up to Cody to open both toys. Cody didn't mind! It's a little early to tell, but I think the elephant is his favorite of the 2 toys he unwrapped.

What A Game!
Wow! Double overtime and 2 blocked kicks gives the Sun Devils the win! What an awesome game! I haven't seen many games this year obviously! I watched the majority of the second half while on the phone with my mom. As we both cheered and jeered with each play of the game.
At least I got to see what I would classify as the most important one of the season. So U of A will likely go on to a decent bowl and there's a slim chance ASU will go to any bowl. But bowl or no bowl that was an awesome way to end a rather disappointingly mediocre season. Yay Devils!

Duel in the Desert!
I just stumbled upon the "Duel in the Desert"! ASU vs. U of A! I was doing some channel flipping and boom ran right into the game live from Tucson. I couldn't help but then realize I was wearing dark blue(one of U of A's colors) so no fear I quickly changed into my ASU shirt.
The announcer said it's one of the nastiest rivalry games in college football. I can definitely attest to that! It's no secret that sun devils can't get along with wildcats! Come on Devils time to make a big statement during a nationally televised game!
Here's a U of A joke for the occasion:
Albert Einstein arrives at a party and introduces himself to the first person he sees and asks, "What is your IQ?" To which the man answers 200.
"That's wonderful," says Albert. "We will talk about the Grand Unification Theory and the mysteries of the universe. We will have much to discuss!"
Next Albert introduces himself to a woman and asks, "What is your IQ?" To which the woman answers, 150. "That's great!" responds Albert. "We can discuss politics and current world affairs. We will have much to discuss!"
Albert goes to another person and asks, "What is your IQ? To which the person answers 50. Albert responds, "How about them Wildcats?"

Christmas Time Is Here!
Yep, the blog looks a little different. It now reflects a bit of Christmas flare, since it's now time to get into the Christmas spirit! I'm already in the Christmas spirit! I began decorating my place a little last night and I finished up tonight. I don't go overboard with the decorating...not too much not too little! I actually feel a tiny bit behind since numerous places around the city decorated long before now.

I was truly excited this year to decorate my fireplace mantle. I had a fireplace last year but no mantle. I bought some new stocking holders for the boys stockings. Cody's stocking is hanging from a snowman holder and Simon's is hanging from a Santa Claus holder. Cute!
My mom recently sent me a snowman baker that she made for "her little baker" as the card she sent with the snowman read. I was set on that snowman being the first Christmas decoration to go up this year. And it was! Below is the baker snowman hanging above my sink in the kitchen. It looks good there.

By far the one new decoration that I am most proud of this year is my wreath. I finally got a wreath! I looked and looked for one last year but couldn't find one that I liked. So many of them are too over the top, too fragile, or too bizarre. I saw one that was pure white with funky bright colors that are typically associated with summertime not wintertime! This year I decided to buy a plain wreath and enhance it. I found just the right rather plain wreath and then bought the things I wanted displayed on the wreath including the bow. I'm so proud of the finished product I almost didn't want to hang it outside. I contemplated hanging it above the fireplace. Below is a pic of the finished product! Notice the cardinal at the top!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
It's Thanksgiving morning here in big D as I type this. We've had gorgeous picture perfect weather for days now. However, the "big chill" that was predicted has arrived. It's cloudy, windy, drizzly, and of course cold. On today's morning walk Cody shivered the whole way. He scoffed a bit at the cold wind coming at him too. It's certainly colder than last Thanksgiving but no big deal I don't mind. It's a hot cocoa type of day!
I made an apple pie and some chocolate chip cookies last night. I baked the pie then moved right along to baking the cookies. It was quite the evening! Great fun though!
Well I want to wish all a very Happy Thanksgiving! Hope everyone enjoys themselves immensely! I know for me I'm looking forward to being with my boyfriend and his family, as well as football and pie!

The Wasp Issue! part 2
Will our apartment ever be free of wasps? I'm not sure! The situation has definitely improved after having a few fires in the fireplace. But there's still a wasp or two each day that get in through the fireplace chimney. The thing is it's rather cold too, how are they surviving the temps? The high today was 66, during the night the temp will drop to the high 40s. Earlier this week we had a couple days with a bit of an icy wind. Apparently they're surviving the temps just fine in my chimney! Grr!
I guess I can't say Cody isn't doing his part to help with the issue. The other day I went to get something to collect the remains of a wasp when I returned Cody was eating it. I began to get irritated giving him a weird look but he gave me a look as if to say, "What? I'm only helping!". Moment of me becoming irritated ended super quick. Dogs do weird things! One less wasp to clean up thanks to Cody! LOL!!!

The Motorcycle Show!
Last weekend we went to the annual motorcycle show in downtown Dallas. I had so much fun with my boyfriend last year at my first motorcycle show I must admit I looked forward to going again this year. It's kind of similar to going through a museum. Motorcycles and gear galore! A lot more of a relaxed and casual atmosphere than you would find at most museums however. As a result of going to the show and thanks to my boyfriend I now have a new jacket to wear when we ride!
I know I'm not exactly a motorcycle enthusiast but I like going to the motorcycle show. It's nice to see the different styles of bikes and ATVs. Bikes that are artful expressions for someone. Bikes that make you question if it's actually drivable on the road. Bikes from the good 'ol days. Along with the many styles of bikes that are more practical. There was even one motor home that we walked through.
And of course I took plenty of pics! This year we had a better view of the motorcycle stunt show so I included a pic from the stunt show along with my other numerous pics. I would have to say the last four pics are among my faves! The 3rd pic down in the right column is interesting, it looked kind of like a face to us. The "eyes" are just under the windshield.

Sunday Football!
Woo-hoo! The Cowboys won yesterday. What a pleasant surprise. I really wasn't predicting a win for them. Curious to see how they do as the rest of the season goes on. Since I wasn't predicting a win for them I of course got that pick wrong on my weekly pick sheet. With a smile on my face I marked it incorrect along with the Cardinals game. However, I didn't mark the Cardinals game incorrect with a smile on my face, it was more of a scowl!
Word around town is that the Cowboys must win 5 games total under the interim coach in order for him to win the job of head coach for longer than the rest of this season! We shall see what happens! It's going to be entertaining!

Wasp Issue!
This past week I was dealing with a wasp problem in my apartment. Fun times! I looked over at one point Wednesday afternoon and noticed a wasp buzzing around in the windowsill. After closer inspection I realized it wasn't just 1 wasp it was 4 wasps. Seemed odd that 4 wasps could get in the apartment so I started checking around. It wasn't long before I witnessed a wasp flying out of the fireplace.
I had been hearing strange noises coming from the chimney but I assumed it was acorns falling into it. Never would have suspected wasps. Apparently wasps attempting to overtake chimneys in the Dallas area is a annual problem this time of year. Good to know!
The scariest scene was on Wednesday night, I opened the flume of the chimney and out swarmed numerous wasps. I screamed like a 10 year old girl while the boys barked. At one point there were so many wasps I couldn't handle it I had to just get out of the room let the wasps calm down because they were angry. That actually worked I returned to the living room awhile later and was able to get control of the wasp population.
We have been smoking the wasps out of the chimney. We've had 3 fires in the fireplace. No wasps since Friday so I think the issue is solved. However, the weather turned cold and rainy again on Friday so that likely helped cure the wasp problem.

Time Change!
As a former Zonie, I didn't grow up with the time change. Arizona refuses to participate while the rest of the United States adjusts it's clocks. Which means that all TV other than local TV gets messed up. Of the places I've lived the Central Time Zone is my favorite. National events are televised at more reasonable times here than anywhere else I've lived. I didn't like the Pacific Time Zone much. Monday Night Football came on before dinner time there. It does however seem to take me a few days to fully adjust when time change hits. The pugs mainly Simon have to adjust too!
Simon's inner clock(palm pilot) is very confused. He's continuing to expect things earlier than they are supposed to happen for him. Last night Cody definitely agreed with Simon that dinner should have be served earlier than it was!
Rule number 1 with time change is to change all your clocks don't forget to change one. Earlier today I was working in my spare room when I looked over at the clock in the room. I got a little freaked out thinking it couldn't be as late as the clock was showing. I had forgotten to change that particular clock!

Dallas Cowboys...YIKES!
Well the Cowboys were slaughtered last night by the Green Bay Packers. We actually turned it off, we couldn't take it any longer. The Cowboys fired their head coach today. The first time a coaching change has been made during the season while Jerry Jones has been owner.
I have received plenty of Cowboys jokes via text messages today. My oh my how life has changed. I now have to endure Cowboys jokes and defend them! Geesh!
Granted the Cardinals are doing better than the Cowboys this year but joking too freely about other teams is something Cardinals fans can't really do! The Cards gave up a 2 touchdown lead in the 4th quarter yesterday. Geez! Darn Favre and his miracle comebacks!

The Boys and Rainy Cold Days!
How does Cody deal with a cold rainy day? After we get back from a walk and he's in need of a toweling off. He first takes out his frustration on the towel. Good thing I use old towels on the boys. After he's done attempting to swing the towel from side to side I ask him if he feels better now that he got that out. He typically responds with a big sigh! Below are pics in sequence of the events of his "toweling off". Ah, poor cold Cody!
How does Simon cope with a cold rainy day? He comes in from the walk and goes directly to the space heater. He knows I'll be along very soon to turn it on for him. Once I turn it on he curls up next to it. He's definitely a heater hog! When we lived in Seattle the air vents there are near the floor not near the ceiling. Simon loved it! He was commonly nestled next to the low heater vent. I used to worry he was going to burn himself or catch on fire!

Interesting Day!!!
Have you ever had one of those days that's not terrible but some odd things go on that make it noteworthy? That's how my day was today. Not a bad day just a day that certainly made me laugh to myself as I recounted the day's events in my head awhile ago.
It's been a rainy day. Cold too! I'm not scared of the rain and I'm truly dedicated to my pugs. They need their long walk and I'm going to do my best each day to get their long walk in. Even if it means we have to walk in the rain. This morning we started out but the rain got harder and lightening seemed to be getting closer. So here we are a little ways away from home with the only option of jogging home. Cody understood we needed to hurry. He would run some then look back at me as if to say, "can we stop yet?". Simon wanted to eat acorns. So he was running but with his mouth open trying his best to shovel in as many acorns as possible as we whisked by. By the time late afternoon came around I wanted to attempt the long walk again. When we headed out it was raining however nothing too major. Well of course the rain ended up getting worse as we neared the end of our walk. So once again there I was jogging with 2 pugs home. I don't think I have to say this, it should be a bit obvious but pugs are not jogging type of dogs....I'm sure we all looked like a bit of a comedy routine during 2 of our walks today.
At dinner time I had things in the oven and one item on the stove. I went into the kitchen to check the item on the stove when my eye was immediately drawn to the flames that were on the stove. Yes, I said flames! That's the first time I've ever seen flames in my kitchen(any of my kitchens). I've caught a oven mitt on fire before but that was a tiny flame about the size of a flame on the tip of a match....these were FLAMES! Within seconds of me noticing the flames the smoke detectors erupted in blaring fashion. I was able to get the small fire put out on my own. But it was tense for a few moments. The flames were caused by a large piece of veggie with oil on it that had fallen under the burner. Where did Cody go during this latest smoke detector episode? Under the bed! He stayed under my bed for a very long time. I finally had to go get him and assure him everything was okay.
After dinner Simon tore up a brand new toy within minutes of me giving it to him. Then Cody went over and tried to eat the stuffing from the torn up toy. Geesh! Simon can be so destructive to his toys! And Cody can still act like a puppy that doesn't know any better than to eat stuffing. Wow!
So from jogging with the pugs in a thunderstorm to a small fire in the kitchen to the boys antics. Interesting day!
Let's Go Rangers!!!!
Well no World Series title for Texas. San Francisco won the title last night. Nothing to be down about though. They had an awesome season. Something that they can hopefully build on.
I was happy the Texas fans at the game were classy. No reports of fans spitting on opposing team's family members. No signs being held up that disrespected an entire city. I liked that as San Francisco celebrated in the middle of the field Texas fans chanted "Let's Go Rangers!".
The drought for not appearing in the World Series is over!!!!

Happy Halloween!!!
I must admit I've never been a huge fan of Halloween. As a kid I got rather nervous going trick-o-treating. I was much more into going to spend time with my grandpa at his pie social that he hosted for his residents every Halloween. When I think of Halloween memories eating yummy pie with grandpa out ways any door to door trick-o-treat moment.
This Halloween our plan was to have a scary movie night. However, the World Series is on opposite of Sunday Night football...so movie plans are a little up in the air at this present moment. We'll see! But how often are the Rangers in the World Series? I won't be disappointed if movie night is a no-go.
I'm curious to see if any kids come to the door. We have candy just in case! As an adult I admit I look forward to seeing little ones in their costumes. Always curious to see what kids choose or what is chosen for them to wear.

Simon the Intimidator!
If you were to ask Simon if he was a pug or a rottweiler he may possibly be confused as to how to respond. Perhaps there's a little rottweiler trapped in his pug body. Now before I continue any further let me reiterate that one of my pet peeves is people that refuse to leash their dogs.
While walking the boys today we were nearly home, about to walk up the stairs to our door when a large dog came running at us from the nearby parking lot. The dog seemed friendly enough at first. Cody and the unleashed dog were investigating each other perhaps exchanging pleasantries. Then the dog seemed a little too nosey. Simon wasn't liking the attitude the dog had suddenly adopted. Never fear Simon sprang into action to let this dog know he disapproved. It was a bit tense for a few moments as the dogs circled each other and facial expressions started to change. I could pull both of my dogs back but the other dog just kept coming at us. The owner of the dog soon appeared and assisted in separating the dogs. An entire situation that could have been avoided had the dog been leashed!
I know Simon must get a bit of a reputation from time to time to be unfriendly. Which isn't accurate he's friendly but in a different way than Cody. Simon is territorial. When he is at his place of residence(and just outside his place of residence) he is protective. This is his territory to guard. He's the type of dog that has to have time to realize that a new person/new animal doesn't mean any harm. When he's taken to another place that isn't his home his guard is down, he's not an intimidator at all. A little crazy with excitement to investigate a new place but he isn't intimidating! Simon the puggie-rott!

Seasons!
The weather has been calm the last few days. It's about time to dress warmer for good for awhile. I asked Cody this morning if he was ready for the colder weather. He didn't answer. I can hardly wait until acorn season is over. I'm tired of trying to keep Simon from eating them. Which I fail at miserably. Once the leaves start falling the acorns get covered up. And I celebrate!
Did anyone think the Cowboys season would go so far off track? I didn't. I thought there would be some bumps along the way since they have such a tough schedule. Not in my wildest dreams did I picture the Cowboys going 1 and 5 to start the season and the Cardinals being at a respectable 3 and 3....especially considering the QB issues for AZ. I kind of thought those records would be opposite. Just when things couldn't get much worse for Dallas, Romo goes down with a broken collarbone. He's out 6 to 8 weeks. That's basically the rest of the season. Maybe he'll make it back for that amazing match up the Cowboys have on Christmas day. Hmm, I wonder who they play that week?......all I have to say is YIKES! Not looking forward to that game. LOL!
Mavericks start their season tonight. And the World Series starts too. Safe to say there will be some channel flipping tonight!

Wild Weather Day!
The Dallas area had some wild weather that caught us a little off guard yesterday. Rain was expected but we had no clue a downpour with tornadoes was on the horizon. It appeared to be a beautiful day. I was a little unsure if I had dressed warm enough or not as we left to go to the mall. As we walked into the mall it seemed I had made the okay choice. After a few hours spent shopping/browsing and having lunch. We rounded the corner to head towards the exit. I looked out to see the downpour. It was now dark, thundering, pouring rain, windy, and cold!
We went back to my boyfriend's place to wait out the storm. As we were watching the ASU game on TV the game was interrupted by an emergency weather alert warning us of tornadoes in the area. The downpour continued. As late afternoon approached it seemed the worst was over. We were up for braving the conditions to go do some more browsing that we had planned before the downpour began. Next up for us was to find a motorcycle store in a nearby city. When we arrived at the store it didn't appear to be open at first. We soon learned the staff was preparing to close since a tornado had touched down less than a mile away. As a result only part of their electricity was operating. By the time early evening came heavy rain had subsided for good.
I thought the worst part of the entire thing was the cold temps. I love cold weather but I was completely unprepared for the temps to drop as much as they did yesterday. Cody and I nearly froze as I took the boys out for a very short walk yesterday evening. I spent most of the night last night trying to get warm.
All I have to say is that's Texas for ya! The weather here has the ability to catch you completely off guard. My boyfriend did all the driving yesterday so I still have yet to test out my new tires. I'm glad he did all the driving the weather was insane. I want some rain to drive in but not a downpour. It's hard to explain the rain here to anyone that lives in Phx. You have to see it to truly get it. Phx has these simply rather small rain gutters to drain any rain from a roof. TX has massive drains that both pugs could fit through. Plus they have drains in the middle of large lawns. Soon after I moved here I was walking along one day and discovered a drain in the middle of a large lawn. That was the moment I clued into the fact that Dallas receives significant rain. The last time I saw drains in the middle of a lawn was back in Seattle.
Side note 1: Why is it that every time ASU is on TV here they lose badly? Irritating!
Side note 2: As I'm preparing to finish this post another weather alert has just interrupted the NFL game I'm watching with news of a new severe thunderstorm heading our way.

Hello World Series!!!!
AWESOME! Texas is going to the World Series!!!!!!!!!!
Just moments ago Texas defeated the Yankees and for the first time in franchise history will be heading to the World Series. We have been watching each game. What a ride it's been! I wasn't sure they had much of a chance against Tampa Bay. They took care of business in that series. Then moved on to beat the defending champs to advance to the team's first World Series!
Pop open some bubbly, the World Series is coming to Texas!!!!

Kitchen Notes!
On Tuesday night I wanted to make a meal that my grandma took great pleasure in showing me how to make back when I was about 9 years old. I still remember very vividly the first time her and I made that meal. I don't have the actual recipe but I could recall most of the ingredients and the process. Just to seek further help I decided to look up other recipes that are similar to get an idea concerning measurements and all that. Honestly why did I bother to look through other recipes? Sometimes I cook with a recipe. But even when I do have a recipe I rarely follow it completely. And in this case I printed off a recipe started to organize my ingredients in the kitchen to begin the meal then asked myself what I was doing? Who needs a recipe? Just attempt it from memory as best as you can. The meal turned out rather well. It will be better next time I choose to make it since I made notes on measurements this time.
Another kitchen note, our new place has a smoke detector on the ceiling at the entrance to the kitchen. Not brilliant placement if you ask me. Last night I set the smoke detector off for the 2nd or 3rd time. Not sure how I did it since nothing burned while I was cooking dinner. Here's the best part when you set off one smoke detector all the smoke detectors in the apartment go off in unison. Obviously they are wired together. Just imagine the sound of more than one smoke detector blaring at one time. Yikes! Simon sticks around but tends to give me fearful glances when the smoke detectors are blaring. Cody is no where in sight. I think he runs to my room and gets under the bed. I just know he disappears until the ear piercing noise has ended. Last night as I was running around doing all I could to help the situation I couldn't help but notice little Simon sitting there looking at me appearing as a shrinking violet. Once the awful noise concluded Simon still sat there so I couldn't help but take a pic. Notice how he's sitting, both legs to one side. Cute!

New Tires!
I've needed new tires for awhile now. Back in May when I had the state inspection done on my SUV I was worried about my tires then. Worried they would cause me to fail the inspection. They got a passing grade so I suppose I relaxed for the summer months about the need for new tires.
However, it was finally time to get new ones. I didn't want to get into a situation where I had a major issue so this past Saturday afternoon was spent getting tires. I replaced them with the exact same kind that was taken off the SUV. Needless to say this past weekend was a bit pricey!
I am now hoping for rain! I can hardly wait to go at full speed through some major rain puddles. The old tires had gotten to the point where I had to seriously be careful in the rain because they slipped too much. Well, I am ready to test out the new tires! Come on rain!!!!

A Day In The Life Of Cody!
This should be a fun post, it involves one of my favorite topics of conversation: Cody-Man! Months ago I did a post talking about Simon's day to day moments now it's Cody's turn.
Cody has many bursts of energy during the course of each day. Many things excite him and he runs for the nearest toy when he's excited. As soon as the new day begins and the boys are released from their sleeping area he is a tornado of energy. Frantically looking for the nearest toy to rough up. Sometimes he's a little too extreme and the toy goes flying. He's so busy playing each morning that I have to call him into the kitchen to get fed.
Once breakfast is done for the pugs it's time to go on the walk. Cody likes being out getting fresh air. He's completely aware of everything around him during a walk. He notices the birds in the trees, squirrels moving from tree to tree, and people swinging golf clubs at the golf course across the street. He's funny to watch because he does notice so much around him.
After the walk Cody unwinds a bit while watching me roam around the apartment and moving himself to be near me. He may take time for a nap while I'm working out but as soon as I'm done he promptly appears at my side doing his best to earn a tummy rub. Cody's schedule is well balanced between napping, trailing me, and playing. His current fave toy is a Halloween bat that his grammie brought him from Phx. Soon enough it's time for the afternoon walk. Once again he simply enjoys being out. The boys are completely trained that they get a treat after the afternoon walk. Both boys hang out by the closet that houses their doggie items the moment we come back inside. Now if I walk passed the closet and don't give them anything Cody is perfectly content. I assume he thinks, 'oh well maybe next time I'll get a treat'. Leaving the closet area to go about his business. This is certainly not how his little brother reacts.
Right before dinner Cody has recently gotten into the habit of wanting to spend time out on the balcony. Following dinner it's his time to chill. He lays on the ottoman and watches things. Snack time and another walk round out the evening for the pugs. When we come back in from the late walk Cody stays up with me while Simon goes off to bed. Cody typically gets cozy in the living room until I decide it's time for him to go to bed.
Another thing that often comes up in Cody's day is barking. He is a security alarm! Cody will bring my attention to something much quicker and with more vigor than Sime.
One thing is for sure, Cody is a go with the flow type of dog. He's content and comfortable! I've always appreciated how he wants to be present in the day to day activities. He's not overthinking things by wondering what's coming up next he's just present in the moment and sharing it with me/us. I read in a Pug book before I even got Cody that the desire to simply share in day to day life with their owners is a pug trait. I believe Cody demonstrates this pug trait very well!

Day Trip and Busy Sports Weekend!
On Saturday we went out to my boyfriend's granny's house on the outskirts of the Dallas area. It was a nice day trip. An enjoyable afternoon eating, chatting, and playing Scrabble. His granny recently celebrated her bday so it was nice to be there and extend her celebration a bit.
Sports-wise it was busy here in big D. For those that are unaware, the Cowboys stadium and the Rangers stadium are next door neighbors. Both the Cowboys and Rangers had home games today. And the games were going at the same time. Can you say traffic jam? Worst of all was that both the Cowboys and the Rangers lost. Geesh! Home field advantages didn't exist.
Boy what a change I've gone through since coming to Dallas....I actually got annoyed during the Cowboys game when I heard members of the crowd cheering for the Titans. However, my boyfriend then reminded me that Vince Young did go to Texas. No wonder there were so many Texas Longhorn shirts in the audience. I still believe it was too much cheering for an opponent even if the opponent is a former Longhorn.
Side Note: I very happily with a smile on my face marked the Cardinals pick incorrect on my NFL pick sheet. My boyfriend was witness to my smiley moment! Yay Cards!!!!

Finally a New Post!
I know it's been awhile since my last post. I try to make at least 2 posts a week. That didn't happen last week. I guess the week got away from me. When I would think about making a post something else would distract me. I planned on making a short post on Friday but I got busy baking brownies.
Lets see what's been going on? Nothing terribly noteworthy. My boyfriend's cat cracked me up a few days ago when she decided to move a few chess pieces on his chess board. She picked one up in her mouth and set it down in another spot on the board. Making a very nice move!
I've been walking the boys a little extra this past week. Just feel like walking and getting them out since the weather is so nice. But I have noticed Simon is looking a bit skinny lately so it might be time to up his food intake. If Simon could read this he would be doing a celebration dance for that admission of mine. LOL!!!!
I noticed Arizona lost a close game yesterday. I hope ASU won. I have yet to see that score. Last night when I was doing my NFL picks I'm not sure why but the second I looked at the Cardinals on my pick sheet I circled them. I then looked at the match up. Well needless to say I erased my first split second selection of the Cardinals to win. I always wonder though about those split second decisions sometimes those are the ones that come back to bite you. Sometimes my subconscious is doing the better thinking. If the Cards do happen to pull off the upset I will be glad to mark it wrong though....my happiness for them winning will far outweigh my disappointment of the incorrect pick.

Red River Rivalry Weekend!
There might not be any Dallas Cowboys game this weekend but Dallas fans are still pumped up for a game. The Red River rivalry game is being played as I type this post. The annual game is between Oklahoma and Texas played on somewhat neutral ground right here in Dallas at the stadium adjacent to the State Fair grounds. I say somewhat neutral ground since Dallas is in Texas but it's not like they are playing at either teams home stadium.
I'm of course wearing orange! Go Longhorns! Although so far the score isn't looking so good for Texas fans. Hopefully they can turn things around in the second half. They sure do have a lot of rivalries here. Rivalries with other schools within the state along with this Red River rivalry with Oklahoma. It's pretty cool, adds a little extra excitement throughout the season.

Now as I have mentioned before I love cake. It's certainly something I look forward to very much when my birthday rolls around. I could have included this part within my last post but my birthday cake deserves it's own post.
My sweet boyfriend wouldn't tell me what kind of cake until it was time for cake and ice cream on the night of my birthday. I was pretty sure it would be a chocolate cake. Sure enough it turned out to be chocolate with chocolate frosting. Plenty of frosting I might add! The frosting is extremely important to me as well. I don't like cakes that skimp on the frosting. I've been known to add frosting to birthday cakes before. However, that isn't necessary this time.
Now this is not your average chocolate cake folks. This is a chocolate cake that has chocolate buttercream frosting(lots of it) and has chocolate fudge heavily dripped around the border. The chocolate fudge border is simply brilliant! Brilliant!!!!!!! That is what sets the cake apart from all other chocolate cakes, in my opinion. It's called a chocolate satin cake which to me helps describe the rich satiny look it has. I can't post a photo right now of the cake but I will soon. It definitely is much better than last year's cake. Scrumptious!

My Mom's Visit
My mom visited Dallas this past week. She arrived on Monday and left on Friday. It was a very nice visit. The pugs were truly happy to see her. They even got to bend the rules a little while she was here.
During her previous visits we've toured most of the sights of Dallas so this visit was really about relaxing and enjoying each others company. We shopped, we went to a movie, and we dined at restaurants she hadn't yet been introduced to. The shopping went very well. She bought so many pants she was wondering how they would all fit in her suitcase. Lol!
Funniest part of the visit was the snake encounter. We went to some riverside walking trails with the pugs. As the four of us walked along the trail, Simon of course was curious. He must sniff all he comes across. Well he sniffed the wrong thing. He sniffed what turned out to be a snake. I jumped back with Simon attached to the leash I was holding while yelling that there was a snake. My mom had Cody and was quickly moving him away from the snake that was slithering around. After Simon sniffed the snake he slithered over onto the sidewalk and quickly discovered he didn't want to be there so he moved back toward the dirt. Despite my mom's huge phobia for snakes she remained rather calm on the outside but admitted she was quite panicky on the inside. I was calm, I just wanted to get Simon out of the way along with alerting my mom so she could move Cody away. Here's the difference between Cody and Simon. Cody recognizes my panicked voice and responds well. Simon doesn't pay attention to the panicked voice and continues to pull toward the snake not understanding that the thing could be dangerous. Geesh!
I can't really narrow down one specific fave part of her visit. I think the 2 mall trips and the evenings were the best. Each evening was uniquely enjoyable. Spending time with her and my boyfriend while dining at restaurants that him and I enjoy were especially good experiences.

Various Thoughts! part 1
Notice the new look to the blog! I discovered some seasonal designs. So I decided to change things up a bit. Since autumn officially began this past week this design is fitting.
I have spent the day preparing for my mom to visit, it was an afternoon of cleaning. The pugs have spent the day wondering what the heck is going on. Why so much cleaning and organizing? Cody is hilarious when you get the vacuum out. When it's first turned on he acts as though he's ready to take it on if it wants to do battle with him. Then he runs off at full speed when it moves.
Lol! Simon stays rather close by and just watches. Observing every move of the vacuum.
I haven't seen my mom in a year! Can you believe it? We talk frequently on the phone but we haven't actually seen one another face to face in a year. I'm refusing to get stressed out about the little things. No need to stress like I have in the past. If I can't find time to get her fave soda in the house before she arrives so be it....we can go to the store after she arrives. No biggie!!!
I had the Texas game on in the background this afternoon. It's nice to see a PAC 10 school playing on TV here. When you no longer live in a PAC 10 state then any PAC 10 team is extra appealing to watch. However, I'll admit I kept hoping Texas would come back. I said I like to see PAC 10 football it doesn't necessarily mean I want them to defeat any Texas team. LOL!!!! There's only one team I would root for over a Texas team. Hmm, I wonder which team that is?
My birthday is just days away, for some reason it doesn't feel like my b-day is so near. However, I'm dreaming about the birthday cake. I love cake! That's no secret. I look forward to birthday cake every year. Last year I had a cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory, this year it's going to be a surprise. We'll see!
Now for some Cowboys talk....they have to win. This is it! Likely the make or break game of their season. As my boyfriend said if they don't win it's going to be hard to live in big D the next couple of weeks. The media here is extremely critical of the home team. Something that surprised me when I arrived here! So the Cowboys must win because going into the bye week with zero wins is going to start a firestorm. Go Cowboys beat Houston!!!!!!
To my mom....have a good trip to big D. We are all looking forward to seeing you. If I don't talk to you tomorrow know that I will see you on Monday in baggage claim! Welcome to Dallas!!!!

Monday Night Football!
My boyfriend and I did our individual pick sheet for this past weekend's NFL games. I'm always hoping that we have an odd number of games different that way there is no chance of a tie. This past Sunday we had an even number of games different. Meaning the chance of a tie was certainly possible. At the conclusion of the late afternoon games we were tied with no chance of breaking it, due to the fact we both picked the Colts to win the Sunday night game and the Saints to win on Monday night. To break the tie we decided to add a guess concerning the total amount of points scored in the Monday night game. He made his guess and I made mine.
I anxiously watched the Monday night game being particularly interested in the score. The last few minutes of the game were rather exciting. 49ers scored a touchdown and a 2 point conversion with a little more than a minute to go in regulation to tie the score. Then with seconds to go the Saints marched down the field to get their kicker in scoring position. On a windy night at Candlestick park the Saints kicker scored the winning field goal with just a few ticks left on the clock.
Now let me tell you what each of us guessed on the score. My boyfriend guessed 44 points as the total for both teams. I guessed 50 points. The final score was 25 to 22. The total obviously being 47. He was 3 numbers off and I was 3 numbers off. It's a tie! LOL!
I think it's hilarious that we tied. First we tied with our picks each missing the same exact amount of games. Then in an effort to break the tie we still end up tying somehow. LOL!

Texas Football!
As everyone knows I love football. So one of my fave things about living in Texas is how important football is here. Plenty of colleges that have good rivalries along with 2 pro teams to root for! Awesome!
The other day I was driving down the road when I noticed a vehicle that had "Bevo, it's what's for dinner" written on the back window. This past Saturday Texas played Texas Tech. Texas is the Longhorns with a mascot named Bevo. Obviously it was a Texas Tech fan that was driving that vehicle. I was for Texas. I was happy Texas won and TCU won. We were actually in Fort Worth just miles from where the TCU campus is. We went to dinner just a little before the game let out. By the time we ordered dessert the restaurant was packed with TCU fans.
Sunday's football wasn't so great in my opinion. The Cards lost badly. That score got so lopsided I held up my hand to block the score from my sight when the network would flash it across the bottom of the screen. The Cowboys lost too! Which means the city of Dallas is just about ready to hit the panic button! Actually I think many hit the panic button at the conclusion of Sunday's game. My pick sheet was a bit of a mess too. Next week I must do more careful consideration/studying before I make my picks.

One Year!
This past Wednesday my boyfriend and I celebrated the one year anniversary of our first date. Yay! I looked forward to our special night just as much as I looked forward to our first date. I was giddy and excited all day long on Wednesday. Just as I was the year before!
We had discussed where we would go for our anniversary evening but when it came time to go out the restaurant had changed. When we exited the freeway I wasn't exactly sure where we were going. We ended up at the same restaurant that we went to for our first date. Well not the same exact restaurant, the same restaurant chain, they have other locations in the city. The same exact restaurant would've been too far to travel to.
We dined in a lovely Mexican food restaurant that is well decorated in a fine dining old Mexico style, not your typical Mexican restaurant decor. We were both noticing the uniqueness of the atmosphere that surrounded us. With spectacular chandeliers, amazing archways, vaulted ceilings, and an impressive fountain outside it definitely presents a more elegant feel!
I love how he surprises me! I would have been completely happy with our original plans for dinner. However, going back to the same restaurant that he originally introduced me to added to the already special evening, in my opinion.
To my sweetness...thank you for a wonderful celebration of our first date! Thank you for being the incredibly awesome man you are! XOXO! The evening was just as I had pictured it!!!

Pug Cargo!
The boys and I had a delightful experience this morning. We got up and around early for daycamp. I put the boys in the cargo section of my SUV and off we went. When we arrived at daycamp the cargo door would not open. The boys were stuck in the cargo section! Alright now how am I going to get the boys out? Well, I have a pet screen that prevents the boys(mainly Simon) from coming over the backseat and roaming the car. The pet screen is attached to the headrests on the backseat so I took those off and began the task of trying to loosen the screen from the floor of the cargo area. I had to do this from a completely opposite angle then how the pet screen is installed. Trust me this was not easy! Meanwhile 2 pugs were jumping around wondering what the heck I'm doing with the pet screen. I got the screen loosened enough, creating enough of a hole for me to reach down and grab each boy one at a time.
The door still wasn't working when I went to pick them up. This time I had to drop each boy through the backseat and the loosened screen. Simon wasn't so sure about it but was soon convinced he needed to go through this ridiculous hole I had created. Cody on the other hand was having no part of it! I had to trick him to get him back in the cargo area. Thank goodness I have little dogs!

Pilot Point and Football Weekend!
I had an enjoyable weekend. We went to Pilot Point for my boyfriend's family reunion. It's about an hour drive from the section of town we live in. When we go in that direction on the outskirts I always look forward to seeing this one particular lake that we drive right over. Well this time I missed my perfect view of the lake. Not sure how I missed it but I did. I was just riding along and next thing I know we had passed the lake already. I was likely looking off in the distance and who knows what!
Football started this past weekend. Yay, Cards! I wasn't sure what the team would look like this year. I'm hoping they have a decent season of course. Beating St. Louis in St. Louis isn't a huge accomplishment but it's noteworthy, it's a "W".
Now of course the world stopped for the Cowboys game Sunday night! I had picked Washington on my pick sheet. Not that I was picking against them I just take my picks seriously. I'm very much a realist when it comes to my NFL weekly picks. You can't let your love for a team cloud your vision. Lol! However it doesn't stop me from rooting for them even though I may have picked against them. At the end of Sunday's game on that awesome last play my boyfriend and I were both celebrating. Giving each other high 5's only to then glance at the TV again to see there was a penalty. Painful!

What a Week...Weather-wise!
I think we've experienced quite the interesting week of weather here in Big D. First it was sprinkling rain on Tuesday, rather refreshing and nice showers I might add. Then the bottom fell out of the sky on Wednesday and we were dumped on. By the time Wednesday night came around the pouring rain had stopped but tornadoes were the new issue. Every time I tried to watch something last night on TV a tornado warning interrupted it. One tornado did touch down near downtown Dallas, resulting in a collapsed building.
As for today the sky looked questionable early this morning but the conditions are lovely as of right now. I think we have more rain coming in. Which is fine by me, just hope it's a little calmer type of rainstorm. Not the remnants of a tropical storm going over us.

NFL Opener! Yay!
After a long wait it's finally over....the NFL season begins tonight. Oh don't worry I will be front and center in front of the TV for the big night. I'm picking the Saints however I wouldn't be upset if the Vikings pulled out a victory. Wait a minute, maybe I would be slightly upset since it would mess up my pick sheet already on opening night. Definitely don't want to get the opening night pick incorrect!
In the Dallas paper the Cowboys are picked to face the Colts in the Super Bowl here in Dallas in February. Talk about pressure for the home team? Wish the paper wouldn't have printed that. Way too much pressure. That would be amazing the poor Colts wouldn't stand a chance! (Sorry Mom!) Can you imagine the crowd if that were to happen? Can you say home field advantage? I'm not sure a Super Bowl hosting city has ever had their home team in the big game. I can't think of it ever happening before. It would be historic that's for sure!

Hermine Packs a Punch!
A large amount of rain is being dumped on the Dallas area from what is left of Tropical Storm Hermine. Yesterday it sprinkled on and off. But at some point in the middle of the night it began to pour. It hasn't let up for many hours.
I don't have my winter clothes or jackets unpacked yet. So bright and early this morning there I was rummaging around in suitcases and boxes to find the appropriate gear to go out in the downpour. When I took the boys out we got to the bottom of the stairs and looked around. All sidewalks are completely underwater along with many plants/grassy areas. As we stood pondering our next move, it wasn't long before both boys had seen enough. At the same time they turned around and started heading back upstairs.
The entire city is under flood warning until tomorrow night. Judging by the amount of rain that has fallen already there is likely to be significant flooding in many areas. Since I've lived here Dallas has had it's fair share of serious rain fall. In June of 2009 my mom was about to come to town to visit and I had to prepare for her visit. I remember braving the completely frightening conditions to go to Target to get items for her visit. That was an interesting drive. Visibility was awful for that drive and the streets were very flooded. I remember thinking about how glad I was that I had experienced living in Seattle. It certainly prepared me for Dallas rainstorms.
A Seattle storm story to end with. One time the rain was so severe that the nearby river started to overflow. Upon my drive home one evening there were salmon swimming down the road. People were out all over the place trying to catch the salmon with their bare hands. Crazy scene!

Tennis, Baking, and Football!
Earlier I was telling my mom over the phone how beautiful the weather is so I must mention it here as well. It's a gorgeous 89 degrees out. Which is rather perfect conditions in my opinion. It's a low-key Saturday. Just relaxing, enjoying tennis, and at this present moment I'm doing a little baking. I've wanted to bake for days now but just now decided to give into the temptation.
I'm baking some cookies that I baked for the first time last Christmas season. I think my absolute favorite thing to bake is brownies. But today cookies got the nod. They are dark chocolate and mint cookies! My mom and one of my aunt's would love them. You have to be a bit of a chocoholic to truly enjoy these cookies. Lucky for the cookies we are both somewhat chocoholics!
Completely changing subject's, let's talk football. TCU plays later tonight at Cowboys stadium. We will be watching! Go Frogs! I don't watch college football as much as I watch the NFL but I pay attention to it. When it's football season there's no Saturday that goes by that I don't catch some college football action.
Side note: Can you believe Leinart was cut? I'm happy about it. I guess they tried shopping him around and likely couldn't find anyone willing to trade for him so they cut him. Must say, it's a bold move on the Cardinals part!

My Dumb Fear!
At my old complex there was a resident raccoon. I know I've spoken of this raccoon before. Not sure why but the rather large raccoon always had the ability to freak me out. He lived in the storm drain across from my building. He was conveniently near a large resident trash bin. He regularly rummaged around in the trash. He regularly made me scream as I would go to throw stuff away and up would pop his strange looking head. Well, now that we are in a new complex I still find it to be frightening to throw my trash away. I'm always on guard! The boys must think I'm nuts as I rush them in and out of the trash area. It's the dumbest fear!

Random Thoughts pt. 7
It's a very beautiful day here in Dallas. The boys and I enjoyed the strong breeze while out walking awhile ago. However there are dark clouds in the distance. Stormy weather could be closing in on us soon. Now that September has arrived I look forward to a cooling trend. In the last 10 days we've had some hot days mixed in with some not so hot days. It's very apparent in the early mornings when I walk the boys that autumn temps will arrive soon. It doesn't take as long as it does in Phx to notice cooler autumn-like temps! Just the other day I was noticing how short the hot summer-like temps actually last here. It's really only July and August that are scorchers.
Yesterday during the afternoon walk Cody became fascinated with a squirrel. He is very much into making friends. He doesn't care what species. Seeing squirrels, armadillos, blue jays, cardinals, etc...is something I will never grow tired of. Although I do grow tired of seeing the wildlife no longer surviving and laying on the side of the road. Yuk!
This past weekend we went to Avatar...again! We haven't yet memorized the plot so we thought we would go again! Lol! It was worth it. There's some new scenes and a new creature. It was fun to try to spot the new scenes. I must say the images in the movie continue to fascinate me, even more than the squirrel fascinated Cody yesterday. Lol!

Football!
At this present moment I have no clue what is going on with the Cardinals. Maybe they won last night maybe they didn't. I don't try too hard to keep up with their pre-season it will be different when the regular season begins. As for the Cowboys....they lost! Again! Safe to say the city of Dallas is getting a little bit nervous as to what the 2010 Cowboys season will be like. One could cut them some slack since it's pre-season but they sure did look bad last night.
The Cardinals biggest problem is replacing Warner. Can you believe Kurt Warner will be on Dancing With The Stars this season? From football to dancing! Weird! I think he is the first quarterback to appear on the show. But I could be wrong!
I'm certainly ready for the season to start. There is no season I look forward to more. Football, autumn temps, and my bday. What could be better? Lol!

10 Day Program is Done!
The 10 day cleansing program is over! Yay! I got down to the weight I was thinking was doable for me to get to during the program. So I'm happy. Was it hard? Yes and no! There were elements of it that were difficult. Wednesday and Thursday of last week where the hardest, my energy was seriously lacking. By the time Friday came though my body was adjusting to the new way of eating.
I lost a few pounds and my skin looks great! I would recommend a cleansing program to others and I will definitely do it again. I'm also proud of myself for eating so much fish! I can honestly say I enjoyed some of the aspects of the program so much that I will implement them into my normal eating routine. Fish will be something I will gladly fix once a week at least now.
Now lets talk about things I'm hungry for...Subway, pizza, and a chicken chimichanga with a strawberry margarita! I could also go for a burger and fries. I did fix a very healthy turkey burger meal for dinner tonight so I got that craving somewhat under control already(no fries though). I'm not going on an eating binge or anything like that but I hope to indulge in these items at different times in the near future. Other than Subway it's actually been awhile since I've had pizza or a chimi. Subway is a place I often frequent at some point during most weekends. Long ago it used to be my Monday night thing. I would go get Subway then return home to watch Monday Night Football! Best of both worlds!

Possibly a Good Shopping Weekend
Well it's tax free weekend here in TX. I've never heard of tax free weekend until I moved here. None of the other states I've lived in have had such a thing.
Basically this is the best weekend for parents to get their kids ready to go back to school. And if you aren't a parent then it's the best weekend to do a little shopping for maybe some clothes that you might need in the fall and winter months. Last year I went out to see the natives doing their shopping thing but I didn't buy anything except lunch that day. I was incredibly curious to see how crowded the malls would be last year. However, this year I plan on taking part in the shopping. I can think of a few clothing items I'm in need of.

Wait a Minute, Where's Cody?
Yesterday I was walking the boys in the late afternoon. During the walks I'm always juggling a few items, mainly keys and 2 leashes. Two leashes that are attached to dogs that have 2 completely different walking styles. Simon is on a walk to investigate all trees, bushes, and signs he comes across. Cody merrily walks about soaking up the sunshine and commonly looking for people that might want to pet him. During this particular afternoon walk I remember Simon pulling me in a certain direction, I had to get a hold of him then I had to readjust my keys in my hand plus grab my sunglasses as I had started to knock them off in my hurry to get Simon under control. A few moments later I look down to discover I only have keys and 1 leash in my hand. I glance down to see Simon on my left side. I look to my right side for Cody....nope, no Cody in sight. I look back behind us and there he stood many feet back just waiting for me to realize that I had dropped his leash and he was no longer walking with us. Both of my boys simply stop in their tracks when their leashes have been dropped which is a good thing. I still can't believe I dropped his leash and didn't realize it the second I dropped it. That's the part I've had trouble accepting!
I can see some of the humor in the situation this morning! However, I was beating myself up about it last night because I kept thinking of all the horrible things that could have happened to him. That's exactly why I will never be the type of dog owner that has her dogs out and about with no leashes. In our old neighborhood it was common practice for people to walk their dogs up to the nearby park with no leash. I don't understand how people do it. I dropped Cody's leash for just seconds and was horrified once I thought about all the things that could have happened while his leash was not firmly in my grasp.

10 Day Program!
After church on Sunday we went to breakfast then to the mall. While we were at the mall my boyfriend wanted to stop in at GNC health store. In the past few months we have talked about possibly doing a body cleansing program together. I would call it a cleansing diet. But my boyfriend isn't fond of the word "diet" so it's a cleansing program/plan/etc.
I wasn't anticipating starting such a drastic new way of eating when I woke up Sunday morning. However, by Sunday evening I was becoming committed to this 10 day program. Although I must admit I was a little unwilling at first since I couldn't distract my brain from wishing that I had finished my pecan pancakes at breakfast. Lol! In the past when I've started a diet I have a feast before starting, a one last meal type of thing. When it came right down to it though there was no way I wasn't going to do the 10 day program for a few reasons. One being that I wanted to show my support to my boyfriend by going through it with him. Another reason was because I've never done a body cleansing diet/program, so I figured it would be good to try. Plus I could stand to lose a few pounds.
All we are eating is fish, veggies, fruits, rice, and just last night we allowed ourselves some almonds. Safe to say, I've never had fish this much in my entire life! I'm doing well though eating the fish!
It's such a drastic change in eating that it's definitely taking a toll on my energy level. I was going through all my normal activities with some slightly difficult moments here and there. Then today, Thursday, came along now my energy level is seriously down. I barely had enough energy to walk the dogs early this morning therefore working out is likely out of the question! At the end of today we will have made it halfway through the program. Just 5 more days left!

Bandanna Pugs!!!
As I mentioned back on Friday, once the boys arrived home from the groomers I would take some pics of their cuteness with those bandannas on. This time around the boys were looking a bit western as if they were ready to attend a square dance. Lol! And of course I appreciate that the bandannas are red!
The photo shoot at home turned interesting when I got the Texas hat out. I attempted to put the hat on Simon. He has no tolerance for any hat. He didn't hold still long enough for me to put it on his head. No worries, that's why I have 2 pugs....what one pug won't tolerate maybe the other one will? Cody was a tiny bit more willing than his brother. Yet he wasn't thrilled about it. He refused to have it on his head so the compromise was for it to hang off to the side. Notice his face and how his ears are dropping lower in the first pic, then even lower in the second pic. He is clearly not happy. The best pic is the last one, the hat is behind the boys and no longer an annoyance to them. We might have to frame that pic and send it to Grandma!

Blog Anniversary!
Today is the 1 year anniversary of this blog! Yay! I've enjoyed posting for the last year. I can't believe it's been a year already. I had the idea to start a blog at the end of July but I waited until August 13th to make my first post. August 13th was my grandparents(dad's side) anniversary. I wanted to be able to easily remember what date I started my blog. I knew the easiest way was to wait for a special date that I used to celebrate.
I have great childhood memories of celebrating their anniversary with them. They always seemed to choose dinner at Camelback Inn Resort. I always had the prime rib dinner followed by strawberry pie for dessert! Yum! One year I accidentally dipped into the horseradish instead of sour cream. Horseradish on my baked potato was not a good thing! Trust me! Lol!
The best thing about this blog especially for someone that isn't living in the city that the majority of her family is living in...it helps my family to know what's going on with me. One of my cousin's commonly tells me that if he hasn't heard from me via texting in awhile he at least can go check my blog to know what 's going on with me. It's also nice to record my experiences here. Lots of things about TX are still somewhat new to me.

Pugs Day Out!
Things are rather quiet in my neck of the woods today. The boys are getting groomed. It's not that the boys make a lot of noise but their presence in a room can certainly be felt. When they aren't here it is a tiny bit strange! Their new groomer is at their new vet complex too. The groomers do first come first serve "appointments". No appointment times are given. I'm still deciding whether or not I like that.
The boys seemed rather happy to be at the groomers today. No climbing up into my arms. They both instantly jumped into the same chair in the lobby and politely waited. It was cute and funny!
Simon's favorite part is getting his nails trimmed! Yeah right! That part is like torture to the poor little guy. As a baby he watched me trim Cody's nails, let's just say things didn't go so well. I think watching that scene scarred Simon! He actually starts sweating when you get nail clippers out around him. Cody's not fond of his nails being trimmed either or fond of water for that matter, but he's a rather cool customer. He goes with the flow and realizes it has to be done so endure!
They are so spoiled, they know that when they get groomed they receive a special treat once we get back home. The second we walk in the door their focus is on the treat, especially Simon's focus. Cody takes a few moments to rough up a toy then he jumps on the 'we want a treat' bandwagon with his brother. My favorite part of the boys getting groomed is the cute little bandannas they come home with! I will likely take a pic and post it tomorrow of the bandanna pugs!

Cowboys Afternoon!
Well it's finally that time of the year again: football season! One of the highlights of my Sunday was kicking back to watch the Cowboys play in the Hall of Fame game. Watching football while eating homemade burgers and fries...definitely my idea of a great evening! Glad the Cowboys won too! I know it's just pre-season but it still builds momentum.
This yer the Cowboys celebrate their 50th anniversary. Well technically it's their 51st year but they are celebrating the 50th anniversary this season. Confused? I was a little confused at first too. Basically it's like this, the Cowboys are choosing to celebrate their 50th anniversary now that the 50th season(last season) is in the books! It's a celebration of the last 50 Cowboys seasons! It makes sense that they waited until after the 50th year was officially complete before celebrating even though it's slightly confusing to people. Plus last year it was all about the new Cowboys stadium. This way the 50th anniversary can take center stage!
Side note to my Cowboys loving cousin....I owe you a 5oth anniversary shirt! Please no one else in my family get jealous. It's a special occasion and he's been a fan for a good amount of those 50 years!

Random Thoughts pt. 6
I just finished making some of the most delicious pancakes I've ever made, in my very humble opinion! I made large pancakes almost as big around as my plate. It was fun! I love breakfast but I rarely take time to make anything more complicated then pouring a bowl of cereal. Today however I really was in the mood for some pancakes. My sous chef(Simon) was equally pleased that I wanted to be in the kitchen cooking something up this morning. He actually woke up from his nap to come see what was going on.
On the list of things to do today is to take exciting trips to Petsmart and Target. Our Target is currently being remodeled it's about to become a SuperCenter with groceries. I'm pleased with this. The location of the nearest Target is better than the location of the nearest Wal Mart.
Last night I talked to my mom on the phone. It was rather funny to me maybe not to her. But I kept thinking of another thought to say. We would hang up then I would call her back with another thought. As I called her back for a third time I asked her if she was starting to question why on earth she wanted a kid so bad? She laughed and jokingly told me I can be slightly annoying from time to time. Lol! What person isn't from time to time though? On the phone during one of our conversations I was trying to explain to my mom how I can see for miles here. In Phx you can't see for miles. You might be able to see down the street but that's about it. Compared to TX it's more hazy, I don't think you realize the haze the city has until you live somewhere that doesn't have that haze. Plus things there are built closer together more compact. Downtown Phx is especially compact! There are definite areas here that are more dense and compact but your ability to see for miles doesn't seem to fade. The land her is flat though, the mountains around the Phx area block many vantage points. It was very similar in Seattle. I could see for miles there too. I lived 15 miles from the Space Needle but I could still see it from my apartment complex.
I love the way the areas are more spaced out and not compact here in the Dallas area! Another plus about living here! I remember reading about how spaced out Dallas is before moving here. Of course I didn't accurately understand until I moved here and was able to see the contrast from where I grew up.
The boys are cozy as I type this!

A Day In the Life of Simon!
The other day Simon was staring at me. Now this is not out of the ordinary. He commonly stares at me. I would like to think it's because he thinks I'm the best looking human he's ever seen. Sadly I truly doubt that's what he's thinking. While he was staring at me I began to think about his actions over the course of each day. The moments when he is at peace doing his own thing compared to the moments he is staring at me. I think the moments he spends staring at me nearly outweighs all other moments. My mom and I have often joked that Simon has a secret palm-pilot telling him what time it is and what should be going on at that particular time.
A typical day in Simon's life starts off by being fed about 30 minutes after I get up for the day. Simon knows he doesn't get fed right away so he takes his time getting out of bed especially in the winter. As soon as he sees me head for the kitchen though his anxiousness slips into overdrive. Once he's fed and only after he has licked both his and Cody's food bowl he then arrives in front of the door ready for his leash because it's time for the morning walk. After the walk the boys are tired again! Nap time! Might as well sleep, as he understands many hours must pass by before anything else happens for him. Late afternoon rolls around, along about 30 minutes before Simon feels he should be walked he follows me around the apartment. Longingly giving me glance after glance. His anticipation for his walk is clear! After the late afternoon walk he is once again at peace for a very short time. He continues to keep an eye on me fairly soon after the walk because he knows dinner time is drawing near. Once he gets dinner he takes up his position as sous chef while I begin to prepare my dinner! When my dinnertime is over, Simon realizes snack time is up next for him. This is the part of the day when the staring at me is at an all time high! After I finish dinner he never once breaks his gaze. Finally, snack time arrives. Then it's walk time again! And after that he puts himself to bed. He's done for the day!
I like how he puts himself to bed I think it's cute. When he was a puppy he used to just disappear on me after the evening walk. I would soon discover he had sought out his bed and was fast asleep. Cody on the other hand likes staying up with me! Which is fine too! I love how Cody is my shadow from the second we get up in the morning until he is put in bed at night. The difference is Simon follows me around with great anticipation of something. Cody genuinely wants to be near me and share the day with me. I love them both equally! I appreciate the uniqueness of each of their personalities. I continue to get a kick out of observing my puggies!

Run Boys Run!
The A/C in the fitness center at my complex is broken so I decided to take the boys for a little extra walk to help me make-up not being able to go to the fitness center. We were going along just fine when all of a sudden some sprinklers came on. Imagine the surprise of Cody! Simon commonly looks for water while out on a walk so he had no issue with it. Based on the location of where the sprinklers came on at we couldn't get around them. The 2 options were climb a steep hill or go in the street to avoid the sprinklers. In a split second I decided on a third option...run!
I looked down at Cody. I told him not to worry it's just a little bit of water. I then gave the boys the command to run. They know exactly what the word means and what to do when they hear it. Over the years they've always been walked and we've had to run across numerous streets to avoid cars. They are experts in knowing when to run! So I gave the command, we all three took off running on the sidewalk lined with green grass that was being doused with water from many angles. I didn't realize when we first started running just how far down the street the water soaking sprinklers went. It turned out to be quite the jog for the little pugs. I'm happy to report Cody survived the sprinklers. I will continue today to crack a smile when I think about what Cody must have thought when I first told him we were going to run through the water. LOL!!!!
