Draft Night!

This is the night I look forward to every Spring. If you are my mom stop reading now! This is how obsessed I am with the NFL and the NFL Draft...true story...my grandpa's bday, my mom's dad, was in April. My mom's parents did not live in the Phoenix area like my dad's parents did, so we had to travel to the northern part of AZ to visit them. My mom always wanted to go visit her dad near his bday, which I totally understand but I wanted to watch the NFL Draft which was on Saturday and Sunday. I finally got old enough to spend the entire day by myself and I used to purposefully save a bunch of homework to do on that weekend. So when my mom would say we are going to Camp Verde for her dad's birthday I would say, "I have too much homework. I can't go. I won't get my homework done."  Now with my mom being a teacher she rarely argued about me wanting to stay home to do homework. Score! I know totally lame of me to choose football but that just shows my obsession goes deep and dates WAY back to my childhood.

I would be willing to bet I'm more into football than my husband. Wait...did I just say that! Yes indeed. Oh Brad is a huge football fan but he's all about teams he likes. The Cowboys and now the Cardinals, sometimes the Broncos too. Of course he loves playing football video games as one of those teams too. But with me, I watch pro football no matter who is playing. If there's a pro game on it's on my TV. I'm also big on college football. Brad has definitely adjusted to the fact that he now has to watch college football. On college football Saturday's the TV goes on for the pre-game in the A.M. and doesn't go off until midnight, or my husband turns it off because I'm causing too much of a ruckus watching those darn Oregon Ducks! Boo the Ducks!

So who will become the next member of the Cowboys and the Cardinals tonight? I want a QUARTERBACK! My husband wants a RUNNINGBACK. Brad has his fingers-crossed the Cowboys select Elliott from Ohio State. We'll see. In my opinion they need a Manning-Osweiler situation. They need to be grooming someone else behind Romo. The bench is currently empty in the QB area! I'm speaking from the standpoint of an up and comer! I hope they can get a diamond in the rough. Didn't Russell Wilson get drafted in the 3rd round 4 years ago? So it's possible even if they don't get a QB at the #4 spot. But seriously coming out of this draft without a QB is completely unacceptable!  Round 1 is tonight, NFL moved it to primetime a few years ago. Round 2 is in primetime tomorrow night and the other rounds are spread over Saturday and Sunday. I'm ready!

Quick Snap Sunday: Too Cute!

Too Cute!

I had another pic planned to go up for today's Quick Snap post, then this moment occurred. The other pic got pushed aside in favor of these two boys. Simon is a hard nut to crack, so to speak. When it comes to humans other than his mommie he might make them work to get on his good side. Not that he hasn't liked his daddy or anything, after all they've known each other for numerous years, but Simon made Brad work a little to get in good with him.

I feel like in the last 6 months Simon and his daddy have reached new ground. They are true pals. They were pals before, it's just a little different as of late. I'm not sure I'm explaining this well. The point is there are more and more cute moments happening between these two. Brad likes to joke how it only took, "6 and a half years for him to finally like me". Lol! Just a joke, I believe Simon has always approved of Brad since the beginning, he just likes to keep people guessing sometimes as to his true and warmest of feelings. As all can see it's clear without a doubt Simon is very happy whenever he gets time with daddy.

Answers to Fur-Baby Quiz (part 1)

It's time for the answers to the fur-baby quiz. I'm fairly confident there is a woman sitting out in AZ sitting at her computer anxiously anticipating to score a 100%. Because other than the fur-babies parents she is assuming she knows them best. Her name is AZ grandma! So let's see if any tripped her or anyone else up. Without further adieu.

1) This fur-baby's fave toy is a basketball?

Cody
Simon
Piper

ANSWER: Simon. He is an avid b-baller. He has been loyal to his basketball since he got it, which was the first night I brought him home. It's still to this day his fave toy! Clearly!
 2) This fur-baby loves "balcony time", could literally spend hours outside chilling in a bed?

Cody
Simon
Piper

ANSWER:  Cody.  He is an avid sunbather. He loves warm weather months and loves being able to go out to snooze on the balcony.
3) All of our fur-babies have a few nicknames each, which one has the nickname "gator"?

Cody
Simon
Piper
ANSWER:  Cody.  Typically if a ruckus has been started the insti-"gator" is always Cody. No one ever gets their fur ruffled otherwise. Sorry Code, you know it's true!

4) This fur-baby has the best hops?

Cody
Simon
Piper
ANSWER:  Piper. Sugar and spice and everything nice, it's so much fun having a cat daughter that can jump nearly as high as my head.

5) Who is the most playful with toys?

Cody
Simon
Piper
ANSWER:  Cody. Did this trip anyone up? Cody is the most playful with toys but Piper is likely the most playful overall. The thing with Piper is she doesn't need a toy. She can turn anything into fun playtime.

6) Who is the most likely to be sneaky?

Cody
Simon
Piper
ANSWER: Piper. No one should have gotten this wrong. Cats are sneaky little creatures. And they love being sneaky! They feed on it, it's an adrenaline rush to them.

7) Which fur-baby would be considered the most easy-going?

Cody
Simon
Piper

ANSWER:  Simon! Hands down, without a doubt, he is so low-key it's a little shocking. Easy-breezy Simmie!
8) Which fur-baby is the most dramatic?

Cody
Simon
Piper
ANSWER: Cody.  My oh my, Cody is dramatic. Always has been and always will be. Any little thing could send his world into a dramatic spiral. And he's going to let you know how disappointed he is by whining so don't let any drama come his way! But then again, he could at least help us out by not starting the drama he sometimes starts, the little gator.

9) Whom is loudest at dinnertime?

Cody
Simon
Piper
ANSWER:  Piper.  The key part of this question was "dinnertime", Piper is the loudest at dinnertime. She will not let you forget it's almost time to feed the animal kingdom. Simon has trained her well!

 10) Most likely to cuddle with mommie?

Cody
Simon
Piper
ANSWER:  Simon. This could have tripped a few up, the key word was "mommie". Piper does cuddle a lot too but Simon still cuddles with me more. Piper is more concerned with cuddling with her daddy.

11) Which fur-baby is typically first to greet us at the door when we arrive home?

Cody
Simon
Piper

ANSWER:  Simon.  Yes indeed, Simon is first one up and heading over to us when we enter the house.

12) Which one is a bit shy and needs time to warm up to new people?

Cody
Simon
Piper

ANSWER:  Piper.  She is shy. She is skeptical of new people. She always requires time to get used to someone. You can't scoop her up and force her to be friendly with you. That only works with the boys. We'll see if she ever grows out of her shyness, but so far since we got her she's been shy. It is within her own make-up to be shy because Brad hasn't had another cat as shy as her.

So how did you do? Hopefully this little quiz was somewhat fun to a few people out there! It was fun for me to create. Perhaps, a part 2 may exist at some point in the future. We'll see.

Tax Day Deals...Be in the know!

Okay so today is tax day! And well #taxdaybites! I'm going to start something new...the hashtag comments. It's something myself and a friend of mine do all the time when texting each other. It's about time the hashtag or "#" comments get some attention on this here blog!

Back to my tax day bites special post. I discovered an article with a list of tax specials. So here are some that someone reading this might be able to quickly go cash in on.

McDonald's always has special deals today. However, it is up to each individual McD's to decide what their special will be. In the past they've featured buy one Big Mac get the second for a couple cents!

And an extra McDonald's deal all McDonald's in Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, and Vermont(odd group of states) are giving FREE small coffees away all day long today! Sorry Texas!

Schlotzsky's...not sure I like this deal too much but it is something for free. A free "original" sandwich with purchase of a 32 oz drink and bag of chips. That deal has my husband's name written all over it, he loves Schlotz! And he loves their "original" sandwich. Before I came along he had never tried any other sandwich there EVER!

Boston Market...a half chicken meal with 2 sides, cornbread, a drink, and a cookie for $10.40. Get it? 1040 is a tax form.  They are clever at Boston Market! That deal peaks my interest the most!

Chili's....#happyhour...$5.00 Presidente Margaritas.  Those are the grande margaritas that they are offering up for only 5 bucks. That's pretty good! #designateddriver

Tony Roma's (I'll include it for Zonies but those restaurants don't exist here)...a slice of red velvet cake for free! Print off coupon from their website to get the free slice of cake. Offer valid until end of April.

Arby's...Arby's Gyro's 2 for $6.00, that deal will be valid until the end of April too. Despite the length of time we won't cash on it, we never go there. Last time we came across Arby's I think we were out of state in New Mexico heading for AZ.

Bucca di Beppo....Oh man, I've been wanting to try this restaurant we have one near us now. They have 18% off the total bill valid for today. Must first print off coupon online at their web site.

Great American Cookie Company...home of the best snickerdoodles(just my humble opinion). FREE sugar cookie, limit one per customer of course!

Outback Steakhouse....They are doing 15% of the total bill excluding alcohol sales. Offer is however valid on take-out and dine-in! Honey, can we get Outback tonight? Just kidding!

Bonus...this is not a tax day bonus it is a student bonus, valid tomorrow on the 19th at Red Robin restaurants. The first 22 students of the day to show their valid student ID will receive a 22 cent Ramen Burger. Now come on Ramen burger has college student written all over it. Right? Raise your hand if you didn't practically live off of ramen noodles in college? They are cheap, store easily, and take minimal equipment to prepare. We stored them under our beds in college. Sad but true! However, I'm certain the new Ramen burger at Red Robin is likely 150% better than a cup of Ramen noodles.

But don't be too sad if you aren't a student, they are still offering a discount even to non-students. $2.22 off each Ramen burger purchased. Once again offer valid only tomorrow(19th)!!!

These are a collection of some of the biggest restaurant chains that have reported deals for today(tax day). There may very well be localized restaurants and other places offering deals today as well. I'd be willing to bet the local Ifratelli's Pizza here in Dallas is likely offering some type of deal. But that's just a guess! That is one surprising type of food not represented above...surely a large pizza chain is offering a tax day deal? I'll check around and add it if I can find one in the next few minutes.

Update: I took a spin around the internet, no such luck finding an advertised large pizza chain tax day deal. Doesn't necessarily mean that a few franchised locations can't have a deal. One still may exist!

Quick Snap Sunday: Hoods Up!

Hoods Up!

Trust me folks it's a keep your hood up kind of day! We woke up to a downpour. Both puggies thought I was nuts trying to take them outside. We walked outside briefly to get business done then came inside to walk the long hallways to complete the necessary mileage I make the boys do. No matter the conditions outside, where there's a will, there's a way.

On tap for our weather is more wet stuff falling from the sky. Looking ahead at the 5 day forecast shows only rain clouds. Cody will be so happy! NOT!

To some people, like me, a rainy day calls for a day in the kitchen baking. Although I baked some yesterday so I'm not sure how into baking I really am again today. To Brad a day like today means you watch movies and eat sandwiches(wink-wink). Apparently there's a line from one of his fave movies stating on rainy days you sit around watching movies and eating sandwiches. When Brad uses the line he's usually halfway joking but there have been times it's been the game plan for us on a downpour type of day. Not a bad idea for today!

Excuse Me!

"Excuse me, waitress! Hey, mommie-human! I'm not done with that!" Those were the sentences likely being uttered by Piper the other morning when I took her food bowl away. Let me explain!

I like a clean house. I like clean well groomed pets. I also very much like a good smelling clean husband(he's going to be so pleased I added that part)! It's what I like. So when I see a pet making a mess. I'm not happy. I'm immediately thinking that mess maker better be planning on cleaning up the area around them. If it's Simon, no worries. He belongs to the clean bowl club! He has a gold star membership to the club! With Cody it's a tiny bit worrisome to see him make a mess, yet Simon is on top of things. As for Piper, well she does have similar thought processes as her older brother Simmie. But she's still learning how to REALLY - REALLY clean up well!

That all being stated there's an extra concern with Piper. She's quite clean in the way she eats. She's decent about cleaning up her area at the conclusion of her meal. However, I've noticed when she isn't feeling well she makes a big mess with her food. Cody is our only fur-baby that will not eat when he's not feeling good. Simon will be asking for a final meal on his death bed. Piper is definitely a subscriber to "how to live a foodie life". The other morning when I noticed her making such a mess I instantly thought, 'oh no, she's likely not feeling well'. I then removed the food from her so she didn't continue to eat and make herself extra sick. She looked around at me funny. I took her bowl then set it on the counter as I side stepped to walk down the hallway to leash up the boys for their morning walk. Upon returning home from the walk, I look across the counter to notice an empty bowl. I go around to the other side of the counter to get a better look. Yep, completely cleaned out, only evidence left were 2 tiny crumbs on the counter. I then noticed the barstool was slightly moved. That little sneak of a cat, jumped up on the counter to finish her breakfast while mommie and the boys were out. Oh my!

We do not allow her on counters or the coffee table. Big no-no's! However, I can be understanding that she wanted her food. So no she did not get in trouble. I felt badly for taking her food away in the first place. But in previous times the manner in which she was eating has proven to be indicator of her not feeling well. In an effort to prevent a huge mess for me to clean up, I thought the food needed to be removed. She apparently thought otherwise. Piper: "Excuse me, mommie-human! I'm not done with my food. And I'm not sick this time. I'm just a mess maker! I'll clean it up afterwards!"

Big D Big Sports Weekend!

It's a big time big sports weekend in Big D. How many times can one say "big" in one sentence? LOL!

Brad is out right now playing tennis. Well technically he's watching the rest of his team finish up their matches. His match is done and he won! Woo-hoo! That means he'll be in a good mood! Gotta love that.  He already texted me, that's how I know of the victory! We were a little unsure if his match was a go or not, as rain threatened from the moment I started my day walking 2 puggies. There was a huge marathon that went down our street this morning. So the boys got quite the treat as they walked down the street and saw lots of orange cones, police officers, volunteers, and of course marathon runners. Simon could careless, he's in his own world. As long as no one approaches us, he's good. Cody is a major gawker! He practically walked into the back of Simon a few times because his head was turned watching the runners and other people milling about. His walk is the last thing on his mind when LOTS of people are around.

As for tonight, it's all about the big D major sports teams. The Stars play game 2 of their play-off series and the Mavericks start their play-off series. And yes, you guessed it, the games overlap. My husband was not a happy camper when he found that out late last night.  Can you say channel flipping? At least the games are staggered, Stars game time is 7:00 and Mavs begin 90 minutes later. I'm not sure that appeases my sweetness much but hopefully! Here's to some good game watching! Fingers-crossed for long play-off runs for both Big D teams!

This Is How You Know...

This is how you know...you have trained your siblings well!

This is how you know...you have instilled a hefty dose of fear into your siblings!

This is how you know...you are the oldest and your siblings respect your elder status.

This is how you know...you are easier to give into then to go against.

This is how you know...your red carpet is likely on order, surely your siblings don't want your feet to touch the same carpet they touch.

Well, I couldn't believe my eyes the other day. Piper was sleeping soundly in her PINK bed. Cody started to maneuver his pugness across the room in her direction. She sensed his presence moving closer and raised her head up. As soon, and I mean as soon as he arrived directly in front of her she suddenly got up to give him HER bed. He quickly laid down and she snuggled in next to him on the floor. King Cody how may I help you?

Quick Snap Sunday: Sibling Love!

Sibling Love!

Today is National Sibling Day! I wished my bro-in-law and sister-in-law a great day today. Now it's time to share some of my faves of our trio of furry babies. Just as I can not and will not ever choose a fave fur baby, I could not choose a fave pic for today. A series of pics was the only option.

The first pic above is classic Code and Simmie! Second pic, with the trio snoozing and Piper's head smashed up against Cody's back is almost too cute for this fur-baby's mommie to handle. :) Skipping down to the pic with Piper sleeping halfway blanketed over Simon was too funny for me not to capture. A pic that will forever be treasured by me, a must to include for today. As for the last pic in the bunch, it's so perfect! Or at least to me! Simon is snuggled in his blue boy bed and his little sis is right next to him in her pink girly bed and both are glancing at me! Hi kids! I think those two are two peas in a pod! Piper regularly settles in close to Simmie! And if there's a sudden stormy night, well Simmie gets both siblings cuddled in around him. Lucky boy!

Pit Bull On His Leash!

Back in college a friend/roommate and myself came up with this term "pit bull off her leash". We used it to describe when people, mainly girls, got super angry about something. Still to this day when that particular friend and I talk, we will use the saying to describe how mad we may have been while telling each other a current story. Well that term was perfect for Simon the other day, but it has to be changed up slightly for him. He was like a "pit bull ON his leash".

I have mentioned numerous times, Simon is protective. He's caused people to exit the elevator a floor or two early due to his elevator demeanor. In the elevator he simply stares and gets in a protective stance in front of me. Otherwise, I'm not sure what makes people so uncomfortable. I guess that's it...a pint-size pug staring them down with his puffed up broad chest is too much for some. He always seems so satisfied too when someone exits the elevator early. Well Simon "elevated" himself to a new level this past Tuesday.

I was walking the boys out by the lake when a man approached us, asking if I would walk back to the mid-rise building with him to let him in. He didn't have a key fob. Okay, in my opinion....no key fob...no access! Especially if I don't know you and you don't appear to be a person in uniform on official business. Yes, I've let cops and paramedics in the building. This guy was neither. I said no! Because there was no way I was walking next to someone all the way back to the mid-rise when we're currently out at the lake. Okay, I'm exaggerating, it's not that far. But still I wasn't going to alter my route and take time away from my boys. Nope sorry! A few minutes pass by and we are in another section, still out by the lake. What do you know, here comes this guy again, to ask me to walk with him back to the building to let him in. Before I could respond a second time, Simon responded! Don't even begin to tell me my little man doesn't understand what is being said around him. He may not have understood every word, but he got the clue. He likely picked up on my body language too. I'm telling you he flipped his lid. He began barking and lunging in the guy's direction. He was a crazed pit bull stuck on his leash. If he hadn't been restrained by his leash, who knows what would have happened. The guy jumped back a few steps muttered something and then called me and Simon a name! I won't say the names we got called. But it didn't hurt our feelings any.

If only I knew what Simon said to the guy as he aggressively barked. I wish he had speech bubbles above his head for me to read. But if I could imagine what he was saying I think it would have been something like this....Simon talk: "Back up. No back up further! She told you no. I'm on my walk. How dare you disturb my walk. Do you know this is my HUMAN? This is my MOMMIE!!! I've trained her for 14 years. I couldn't have lived this long without her tending to my every need. I GOT A LOT OF NEEDS TOO! Yeah, and I got a daddy too. But trust me, she's my everything. I'm convinced daddy can't take care of all my needs on his own. He forgot Cody a few weeks ago. Yep, he left with 2 dogs then came home with only 1(me). Imagine mommie's surprise when she arrived on the scene and daddy had only one of us pugs. Daddy offered up the excuse of being anxious to get home to his video game. I'm a dog and even I know that was the wrong thing to tell a pug mommie. So believe me I need this human more than anyone could ever know. So get the heck out of here. I don't know where you came from but be gone....Simon says be gone with you!" Yep, that's likely some of the thoughts Simon was spewing at this stranger. He understands stranger danger, he takes it seriously. Clearly!

After circling around and heading back towards the mid-rise, I did happen to notice a courtesy officer that lives here was on patrol and was headed in the direction we had just come from. I believe the courtesy officer likely showed the man to the nearest exit! We actually have a couple courtesy officers at our residence. It's a very large complex, a massive mid-rise and lots of garden style apartments too. Plus there's security patrol. No lurking about long on this property, they have cracked down on that drastically since we first moved in.

In case anyone was wondering Simon scored a little extra treat Tuesday night!

Swinging Piper!

For the most part the pets are well aware to stay out of my way when I'm working out. Simon and Piper typically choose to get some extra zzzz's while I workout. Cody does sleep some to, but he has to move around at least once during my workout. This past week I was doing extreme workouts involving b-line resistance bands. Trust me if not taking proper precautions with resistance bands those things can injure.  There were a few times during the week I caught a glance of Cody sizing up the situation before coming too near me. He didn't want to risk knocking me over or getting popped accidentally by a band. The look on his face as he studied how to move from one side of the room to the other was almost priceless. I appreciate his thoughtfulness. I don't like being disturbed when working out and I certainly don't want to have to work around pets. So get out of the way kids!

That being stated there are moments when a certain young one has instincts that get the best of her. All pets are quite instinctive. With Piper though, she's young too. She's still got some unpredictable moves she wants to make from time to time. Well yesterday morning her instincts took over. There I was down on the floor with the resistance band wrapped around each limb of mine. I was then moving my arms up and down. Piper happened to have just woken up. I guess I should mention I wake up super early on Saturdays to workout, because I don't want my workouts to interfere with whatever plans we might have since Brad is home on Saturdays. So before sunrise I'm sure to get my workout in. Generally the pets are still asleep but may wonder in as I'm doing my routine. Yesterday morning in enters Pipey, she saw me laying on the ground with that band moving up and down, she simply couldn't help herself. In one swift leap she had both front paws on that band, swinging like a monkey on a vine. It's hard enough doing this extreme routine with resistance bands so tight around each limb and now all of a sudden I'm lifting an extra 8 pounds on the left side. Needless to say I had to stop to remove the cat from the vine!

Later in the day it provided a good laugh, but at 6:30 AM I wasn't laughing. I was too surprised by her quick instincts. I mean quick too. She looked and leaped! It was a blur! Oh dear, life with a young cat. Swinging on something is yet another difference between cats and dogs. Never in a million years would the boys have tried that, not even when they were pups. Monkey-Pipe!

Quick Snap Sunday: Something Noteworthy!

Something Noteworthy!

Can you spot it? Yes, I know the picture quality isn't so great. It was taken with my camera phone at night and clearly indoors. Why is it that camera phones work best outdoors and in daylight? Who knows, but that's how it is with mine. Okay back to the pic, what is noteworthy about this pic? Think hard. Look hard.

See it yet? There's a cute cat and an exceptionally cute man holding his cute cat-daughter but what is the cute man wearing? Something Arizona? Something Cardinals? Yes, indeed! An Arizona Cardinals shirt and it's not even football season. What a good man!  LOL!
