My Duo!
Taking advantage of seeing scenes like this as much as possible. My sweet duo! Cody hasn't been acting quite right today. Then again what is "right" in his current situation? Anyway, it's a journey everyday with him. He gave me another panic attack earlier today. I was frantic! Brad was beginning to get frantic! All is currently good at this moment in our household. He's soundly sleeping and so his little sister.
Ready for basketball and/or hockey? We have company arriving any minute now to watch the two games on tonight. So perhaps, I should make this short and sweet!

Staying Home, Movies, and Basketball
How's the long weekend going for all? Not bad for us. We've been chilling at home for the majority of it so far. Only gone out briefly a few times. I went and did the grocery shopping yesterday afternoon to get that done a day early. While I was at the store I rented a redbox movie, Black Panther. Yes, we were part of the very LOW percentage of people that never went to see it when it was in theaters. Surprised? I'm a little surprised too. Usually the latest and greatest Marvel movie makes it on our list of worthwhile movies to see in theaters. Not sure how we missed Black Panther? I must say though...and please no one write me an email about this opinion...anyway, we weren't that impressed. It broke tons of box office records and we know of people that went to see it in theaters multiple times because it was supposedly so good but we were less than blown away. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it didn't live up to the enormous hype media, critics, and the general public have given it. The scenery did have some stunning appeal to it. Storyline was a little predictable. Brad was a little disappointed no other Marvel characters had cameos. That part didn't surprise me. I think Captain America and Ironman still rank the highest for my fave Marvel movies. Ironman even the sequels have been just as good as the first one.
Another movie we popped in, one we bought because we liked the first one so much, was the newer Kingsmen movie. The first Kingsmen had a pug featured in a rather prominent way. Of course I was into that! There was even a pug puppy on the cover of the Blu-ray of the 1st Kingsmen movie. So the second installment I was anxious to see the little puggie again. This is how the Kingsmen 2nd installment went for us....
There we sat watching it, the pug looked so cute. His owner decided to go out for the evening, and the little puggie went to curl up in his bed for awhile. Next thing I know the mortal enemy of the pug's owner had his house blown up. As I watched the scene, I randomly said out loud, "the pug got out right?" Next, I turned to my husband, "they wouldn't kill off the pug only 10 minutes into the movie right?" His response, "I don't know honey?". Next scene was the owner of the pug and the house returning to see the ashes. I waited to see the pug rise up out of the ashes, you know like a Phoenix, and when that didn't happen. I quickly and loudly exclaimed, "Turn it off, I can't watch a movie where they kill off a pug". That movie is now dead to me!!!! How dare them take out the pug!!!!
In between watching movies we've spent time watching basketball. Of course we are for Houston. Next best thing, if the Mavs aren't in it. Our preferred choice, Houston versus Boston in the Finals. Doubt it will happen but one can wish! Tonight I believe is game 7 in the Boston-Cleveland series. So maybe another movie and a little basketball again for us.

Quick Snap Sunday
Anybody else walk into their living room and find their cat hanging out in the fireplace? She's so strange! Wait little girl...wait! You can get away with this for now and the foreseeable future. But come December or maybe even late November don't count on it. Right now it's clean, no ashes, no soot to get the paws dirty. However, it will not be like this forever.
I can hardly wait to see her reaction to the first ever crackling logs in the fireplace. She's never been around a fireplace before. This is the first fireplace she's ever seen so I guess it's understandable that she's unsure what it is. Right now it's her private hideout.

Flashback Friday...on a Long Weekend
Flashback Friday...a beautiful Spring day, with two handsome puggies soaking up the sunrays on our balcony at the time. Well, it looks like Simon was done with the sun, he's in the shade. But in the pic Cody's still living it up in the sun.
Skip ahead to the present...a couple of days ago Cody gave me quite the panic attack. I thought he was on the super fast track to joining Simon in heaven. I was almost certain I was holding him for the last time. Here's what happened, I took him outside with me and it was warm out. It's been rather warm this week. Warm not hot! Then again, I still go by AZ standards when it comes to the heat. Anyway, it was rather warm. We hadn't been out there long. I estimate maybe around 8 minutes or even less. All of a sudden I looked over at Cody and he was fading fast. He seemed to be attempting to take a gasp of air. But wasn't succeeding. I walked over and literally forced his mouth open so he could get air. I wasn't into waiting any longer outside with him so I hoisted him up in my arms and RAN inside the house with him. I then sat on the floor with him on my lap and poured water in his mouth. He was wet, I was wet, Piper was getting wet as she was right in on the action. She likely recognized my panic and she doesn't shy away. She hangs in there to see what is happening to her brother. Every minor and big emergency we had with Simon she was front and center for. Same is the case now with Cody. After quite a few minutes he seemed to relax and was fine. I'm not sure why he never opened his mouth to pant while we were outside, but that's all he needed to do...simply start panting and he wouldn't have started to overheat like that.
It was super scary for me. I've never heard of a dog forgetting how to pant. Does anyone know if that happens? All I know is it appears Cody no longer can remember how to pant. Panting is how dogs cool off, it's a necessary thing. Clearly, in the future we will have to be EXTREMELY careful with Cody outside during warm/hot days.
In other news, welcome to the long weekend...it's a 4 day weekend for us! Woo-hoo! French Open starts on Sunday...double woo-hoo!

Quick Snap Sunday
My little duo, quick snap sequence taken this morning on this gloomy Sunday morning that featured some rain. Cody had a wardrobe change due to the rain...gotta bring out his hoodie when it rains. :)
Let's Party!
The last two weekends for us have featured get-together's. Mother's day last Sunday and last night we all gathered to celebrate grandma Ruth. She turned 93!!! Ninety-three has never looked so good, right?
Added bonus, a few videos from last night opening our gift. She loves puzzles!
Umm, Honey?
Brad walked into the living room the other day after arriving home from work. He glanced over at Cody as I approached him to hug him. He then quickly looked back at Cody. Studying him for a few moments. He then looked at me. Once again, looked back at Cody then over at me, finally questioning me, "Umm, honey how tired are you?" I responded, "Well pretty tired, but why?" A perplexed look developed on Brad's face as he again looked over at Cody, he then said, "Did you know Cody is wearing a shirt that says, "Simon" on it?" I then laughed a tiny bit. Then explained the simple reason why Cody was temporarily wearing Simon's shirt.
Yes, folks the days and nights are a challenge lately. Yes, I don't sleep much anymore however, I have yet to get so tired that I confuse the boys completely. Apparently that's a good way to freak my husband out though. Simply put Simon's old shirt on Cody and he begins questioning things like: whether or not he went back in time or if his wife is so exhausted she no longer recognizes which pug is still here on this earth? I'm crazy but not that crazy!
Obviously, Cody has double the wardrobe right now. But generally any shirts with Simon's name on them are off limits. Generally! There was one exception obviously the other day! I will continue to keep Simon's shirts for the time being...it's a sentimental thing. We also still have Storm's bowls, Brad's sentimental items from the days of Storm. She was buried with her toys, so he has to keep bowls since she didn't wear clothes. As of this past Friday, little Storm, Brad's most favorite pet of all time, has been gone for 5 years. Not a day goes by without one of us having a loving Storm thought! Forever in our minds and memories.

Cody's Big Little Problem
This is what happens when your little cat sister refuses to move so you can rest your vintage bones. She was completely unfazed by the fact that he tried to lay on her. She only briefly peeked her head up then quickly covered her face again with her "arm", as you can see in the pic. He then settled for laying next to her yet mostly off the bed. Interesting that he chose to lay in this manner instead of his head on the bed. Whatever works, I guess! It's Cody's biggest yet littlest problem...aka his sis!

Gone Forever!
There I was Thursday night with my sweet Cody-boo on my lap. He was content...for the most part. No, seriously he was content. He has moments of contentment, usually short and usually after being feed. :)
Anyway, I needed to do some things on my computer so I had it on the side of the overstuffed chair. Picture it...laptop is on the arm of the chair, Cody is on my lap, and one hand of mine was free to "type/scroll" as best I could with one hand. I also had my debit card on the laptop just in case I found something I wanted to buy online, after all Mom's day is around the corner. All of a sudden out of nowhere Cody freaked out and wanted down. I tried to convince him that staying up on my lap was really not the worst thing in the world. However, he wasn't convinced and proceeded to flip out. I finally let him down on the floor. I looked around and my debit card was gone. Okay, not a problem it probably fell to the floor or worse case scenario is in the chair. It'll be easy to find, I assumed. Umm, nope, not easy. After looking for a few minutes for the card I then checked Piper. She wasn't anywhere too close at the time so I didn't think she stole it. I know that might sound farfetched, a cat stealing a debit card, but cats are unique. Unique little pains at times....I mean that in the nicest most loving way possible! :) She is a thief. A super cute thief, but still a thief. There have been a few nights we have gone chasing our cat through the house because she has one of our wedding rings in her mouth. Yes, she's snatched a wedding ring and taken off before. See what I mean...cats are unique little pains! :)
Back to my most recent story, I kept looking and looking and looking for the card. Every light near the chair was on. I had a couple flashlights out too. I had been looking for quite some time, when Brad arrived home at about midnight from tennis. As he rounded the corner to walk into our living room spotting his wife with the big overstuffed chair tipped upside down. His response was fast, "Oh my gosh babe, how did you do that by yourself? And why is the chair like that?"
The two of us continued to look for awhile longer. Eventually deciding the card is gone forever. Yesterday I went to get a temporary card and order a replacement. The entire way there I was thinking of how I was going to explain my dog freaked out, the card was nearby which came up missing in the process. Much to my surprise when I simply stated to the woman at the bank, "I know it's hard to believe but my card is lost in our chair at home". Her response, "It happens all the time!"
And the question of the day, week, month, maybe even the year....will my debit card ever be found? During the search of the chair I found hair ties, bottle caps, and ink pens. Hmm, were those naturally lost or helped to a new location by a certain little thing named Piper? Since all those items were found UNDER the chair, I think we know.

It's Friday!
Shall I say, May the Fourth be with you! LOL! Nope, I can't let today go by without this pic of Cody's Star Wars moment? If you are a Star Wars fan you get the play on words. If you're not a Star Wars fan, then simply enjoy the cute pug dressed as Yoda. Clearly this is a very old pic...flashback Friday! Well it's old but not too ancient, his muzzle is graying in it but eyes are clear and bright. However, the most obvious difference...he's robust! Neither one of the boys were ever over weight but now Cody is underweight. Sometimes I don't fully see the difference until I look back at old pics. I love Cody no matter what, but is it okay to say I miss this bright-eyed little dude that used to look directly at me?
It's been another long week. The first part of the week was awful. He gets up in the middle of the night and paces in circles as he struggles with doggy dementia. He can't see so my job is to keep him from bumping into as many things as possible. At the same time I'm trying to keep him quiet as he whines a lot. So during half of the week I was fumbling through my days on 3 hours of sleep each night. I believe it was Wednesday night, no wait technically early Thursday morning when I sat up with Cody and I was making almost as much noise as him. I couldn't help it for some reason I burst into tears. There I sat in the middle of our living room crying on the floor like a 3 year old. It's just that I've noticed some more differences in him in the last 8-12 days, my moments of worry never go away. I keep trying to tell myself it will be okay, but that doesn't mean it's not hard, because it is. Wish I could rewind time for him.
Side Note: It's May 4th....which means 9 years ago today the boys and I moved to Texas.
