Cody!

On this day 8 years ago I became a pug owner. I went to meet and hold Cody the previous week. Then after a few more days of thought I had to have the little guy. I did the research before getting a pug as I wanted to ensure the pug personality traits would match up with mine. I even had most of the items needed for a new puppy before the puppy.

Cody is a great dog to own. I think the thing that stands out to me about Cody is his friendly ways and his loyalty to me. He's a momma's boy for sure! He also can't help himself when it comes to greeting a person and soaking up a few moments of their attention. Just last week at the boys doggy daycare there was a brand new worker that was overseeing the small dog play yard, Cody instantly went over for a meet and greet. As I stood at the window and watched I thought to myself that's typical Cody behavior. He's also quite funny! The way he flips his toys around and they go flying out of his mouth at times is rather humorous!

All pics are from Cody's puppy days! Or you could refer to it as his pre-Simon era!

Pug Excitement!

This post is mostly for my mom! As you can see it's short on words. I wanted her to see just how crazy her puggie grandsons are when we receive a package from Phx. I did my best to capture the explosion of excitement! So to my mom....I hope you enjoy the pics! I apologize if a couple of the pics are slightly out of focus...the boys move fast!

Valentine's Day!

Finally I had a Valentine this Valentine's day weekend! It's been along time coming! My boyfriend made it a very special day.

I would have to say one area where he received a few bonus points was at dinner. I don't think he knows he received bonus points yet but he will! Anyway, he took me to a restaurant that we have both been wanting to go to. During dinner he told me that he stopped by the restaurant in person to check it out before making his reservation.

Possibly I am unlike most girls but that truly impressed me. The fact that he took time days in advance to go check out the restaurant in an effort to ensure we would both be comfortable there means quite a bit to me. Definitely worth a few bonus points in my book! To my sweetness...I'm so happy you are my Valentine!!!

Snow Day in Big D!

The snow stopped at some point in the middle of the night. We were under a winter advisory warning until 6 am. When it was all said and done the final tally was 12.5 inches of snow. Yep, just a little more than a foot of snow dumped on Dallas! We are currently enjoying a snow day! Schools are closed. Most businesses have only a skeleton crew working if they are even open for business. Doesn't seem like many people are going out unless they absolutely have to.
Some tree branches are breaking due to the weight of the snow along with many power lines that are breaking. The lights have flickered here a time or two but we are thankful that we have power. While an estimated 125,000 Dallas residents are without power.

This is the most snow that Dallas has had in a 24 hour period in 111 years. Due to all the snow that we've had over the winter we are very close to breaking a record for the snowiest season Dallas has ever had. Tonight the worry becomes ice and fog.

Below are pics I have taken a couple from last night. Along with many from today! I would like to report that Cody was much more adventurous early this morning than Simon. Cody went out and stood in the snow while Simon would not come away from our doorstep(the one place where no snow existed). Note: All pics you can click on to enlarge!

February Snow!

I woke up this morning to a whopper of a snowstorm. At the time I woke up the snow was just getting started. As the day has progressed the snow has increased at times and backed off at other times. However, it has been steady all day long. We are under a winter advisory warning until midnight. When the snowstorm is complete it is predicted to drop 8 inches of snow on Dallas. What a wintry day!

And surprise, surprise this Zonie did quite well driving in this amount of snow. I've definitely been forced to get used to driving in some conditions I'm not typically accustom to. It's been fun though, proving to myself that I can do certain things. Things I never thought I would ever do. But just the same there's a sense of accomplishment as corny as that may sound. Lol!!!

I have to say one of my fave things about Dallas is that it's a city that keeps you guessing. Weather-wise at least! There's certainly a variety of weather conditions that have existed this winter: snow, sleet, freezing rain, ice. Excitingly different!

Below are pics I took at different times of the day as the snow increased. All pics were taken around my apartment complex and of the adjacent golf course. Don't you think my lame snowman looks more like a white ghost from the Ms. Pacman game? The snowman's eyes were made from the boys liver treats and his mouth was courtesy of M&M's. The snowman didn't last long as more and more snow fell on it. Now it's a blob of snow. Simon looks cute with the little bit of snow that stayed on his head and ear even after he shook twice. And lastly, I couldn't resist taking a pic of the boys huddled by the space heater!

Treacherous!

It's a soggy cold day in Dallas. Earlier today I was driving in some of the more treacherous conditions I've ever driven in. This is how treacherous it was for me. I have a vehicle that has the radio controls on the steering wheel. But after messing with those controls once or twice I decided it was still too distracting and if a song came on I didn't like I should endure it. Does anyone else think those steering wheel controls can sometimes be distracting? I find myself looking down too much at the different buttons which kind of defeats the purpose of making things simpler for the driver.

Based on the cold temps, it's definitely another good night for a fire in the fireplace. Problem is I'm out of duraflame logs. I have firewood though. So the question is....am I capable of getting a fire going without the ease of a duraflame log? Well, I'll keep you posted! I'm definitely going to try.

Super Bowl Weekend!

Colts vs. the Saints in the big game. I listened to quite a few super bowl predictions. Don't worry I will refrain from making my own prediction. I'm just hoping for a good game. However, the last 2 maybe 3 super bowls have been quite excellent so possibly we are due for a not so exciting bowl.

I was telling my boyfriend last night that I was incredibly glad I don't have a beloved team in the AFC that is taking on the Saints. Because quite frankly I would be highly irritated by the sentimental treatment the Saints are receiving. This is football!

If you happen to be my mother you should stop reading this post right now....My mom is a HUGE Colts fan. Mainly because of Manning! Since my Cardinals are not in this bowl nor are the Cowboys, I was leaning towards the Colts. Now however, I'm back to being neutral(somewhat). I have seen Saints flags around Dallas. And I recently heard that Drew Brees is from Dallas. So now I'm thinking it wouldn't be so bad if the Saints won. LOL! I really hope my mom took my advice and stopped reading at the beginning of this paragraph!

My Week...Apartment Issues

This was a bit of an odd week. On Tuesday a leak in the laundry closet worsened. Then on Wednesday evening half the electric in my apartment went out. Yep, just half. The only outlet that kept working in the living room was the one with the TV. That was lucky! The stove and refrigerator were good but the microwave was out. I found it to be slightly frustrating only when it was time to prepare a meal. I also found it to be kind of funny how the electric only went out in certain places. Despite the electrical issue the boys and I had a cozy evening with only our second fire in the fireplace Wednesday night.

I'm happy to report that this morning the electric was fixed! Yay! Below is a pic of the boys enjoying the fire! I love how Simon always stares directly into the fire. He does have a history though of getting a little too close to the fire as he is a rather curious fella! He's made me nervous from time to time.

February!

Today is Groundhog day, I haven't heard whether or not the groundhog saw his shadow. But the concept of Groundhog day does crack me up! Lol!

The month of February has always been a fave of mine for various reasons. It starts to stay light outside a little longer. The Super bowl is played just a few days into the month. The NBA All-Star game is played as well. And of course Valentine's day. Yes, I'm a bit of a romantic! Also my fave color is red and it's safe to say the color associated with February is definitely red! Gotta love it! Lol!

Speaking of the NBA All-Star game....it's in Dallas this year. It was in Phx last year. That's a little ironic for me! I live quite close to downtown Dallas. The other day when driving home I saw crews hanging All-Star banners on the side of a larg building. They have one banner finished and one is only partially affixed to the building. Well, unlike last year's all-star banners in Phx there are some Dallas players on the banner here. Not a single banner in Phx last year featured a member of the host city's team. It was incredibly irritating to me!

Leftover Holiday Treat!

Have you ever purchased a gift for somebody and it's a total flop? I am sure most people have. I've purchased gifts for my mom that she seemed happy with at first then asked a few days later if she could take them back. However, this is a first...buying gifts for the boys should be easy. Right?

Today I gave the boys a leftover holiday treat. I kind of forgot about these particular holiday rawhides. After giving the boys baths I wanted them to settle down some. Both boys looked at the holiday treat as if it was a foreign object. Neither dog wanted the treats. I think that's a first for Simon to ever turn down a treat. In the end a few hours later Simon warmed up to the new style treat while Cody continues to ponder if he should indulge in his.

The funny part is that Cody doesn't really want his but he doesn't want Simon to have it either. So he carries his treat around to keep it away from his brother. If Simon does happen to sneak up and grab it Cody quickly looks to me!
