Hail Damage!

Well apparently it's not only cars that were damaged last week after the hail and tornado activity swept through Dallas...planes also got damaged. The Mavs plane was damaged. Interestingly enough the Phoenix Suns have loaned the Mavs their plane to use throughout the NBA Finals. I must say I'm a little curious why the Cowboys didn't loan the Mavs their plane? It's not like they are using it right now! Perhaps the Suns were super quick to offer up their plane and the Mavs may have preferred to borrow a plane more equipped for a basketball team than a football team.

I haven't been too worried about the damage to my SUV from the hail but this past Sunday I looked a little closer at the many dents. It's obvious my SUV needs a body shop! I'm not sure though if I'll rush to get it fixed in the next week or so. I'll probably wait until after my mom's visit. I also want to wait until my boyfriend gets his repaired so that I can see how it all goes for him. I'm especially curious about the length of time it might take to repair!

It's weird driving around town seeing so many damaged cars. I've seen some amazingly nice vehicles with either a front windshield smashed or a back windshield completely gone. Can you imagine the clean up if one of your main windshields got smashed? All those little fine pieces of glass going into your vehicle. Once again I'm glad none of my windows broke!

Mavs Are Going To The NBA Finals!

Today the biggest news in DFW is of course the Mavs!!!!! The Dallas Mavs are headed to the NBA Finals after beating Oklahoma City in 5 games. WOO-HOO!!!! It's exciting! For those in Phx you can be happy to see some former Suns going to the Finals: Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion. This will be Shawn Marion's first trip to the NBA Finals. Jason Kidd has been there 2 other times both times with the NJ Nets. I'm biased of course but I certainly feel that Dirk, Kidd, Marion, Terry, Chandler...all deserve a ring! All of them have been in the league for so many years it's about time they have an opportunity to get a Championship ring!

I'm ready to see how the city of Dallas responds to this. I experienced the Suns going to the Finals way back in the early 90's. I think it was '93, but I'm a little unsure! I will say this though it was incredible to see how supportive the city of Phx became. Suns fever ran rampant! The city was decorated in purple and orange!

Now what does this mean for my mom? She is coming here in nearly 3 weeks, her time here will be during the Finals. So she better pack some royal blue! She will be forced to become a Mavs fan for the duration of her time in Big D!!!! LOL!

Tuesday Night Tornado Activity!

Well it's no secret that the Dallas area has interesting weather. We've had storms of late. As I have mentioned in other posts. But this past Tuesday was a much more serious adventure to experience. I knew a storm was predicted. I even gave the dogs an extra walk late in the afternoon just in case the storm that was on it's way prevented us from going out later in the evening.

Thanks to the events of Tuesday evening I now have some pretty interesting experiences. Lets review them:

1) At about 8 pm on Tuesday tornado sirens went off for all the city to hear. First off, I learned I can get myself and the boys packed up and out the door in less than 10 minutes.

2) You know those emergency broadcast tests that they do periodically that interrupt your tv viewing and generally annoy? Well I now know what happens when there really is an emergency. Your tv screen goes black and in white letters it flashes what the emergency is. For us it was tornado activity. All regular programming was cancelled for the evening only local news was being broadcast. That right there may have been enough to do in my mother! LOL!

3) I know now that Cody when terrified can somehow figure out a way to bypass the pet-screen attached to the backseat designed to keep him and his little brother in the cargo area. Apparently he was a pug on a mission. His mission after being placed in the cargo area for the ride to my boyfriend's apartment complex was to get to the front seat to mommie and her boyfriend. Once he arrived in the front seat he did his typical Cody-talk. I think it's safe to assume he had a few choice words for the tornado activity and baseball size hail.

4) I learned too how destructive hail can be. Not to mention how big it can get. At my boyfriend's apartment complex there were 31 apartment windows smashed by the hail and numerous car windows were shattered as well. In the office of his complex the large hail took out 2 skylights. And as a result of Tuesday's hail both of our vehicles have numerous dents.

5) I also won't soon forget the sound of the hail hitting my SUV as we drove from my complex to his complex. I'm thankful that none of my windows were shattered during that drive.

6) I also must mention what the sky looked like, I just couldn't get over the strange color the sky turned, kind of a honey mustard color in areas with gray mixed into other areas.

I'm certainly thankful for my boyfriend! I would not have wanted to go through Tuesday night alone with 2 pugs. My boyfriend has a demeanor that naturally calms me!

We've had numerous thunderstorms that have produced rain and thunder that I certainly didn't grow up experiencing in AZ. During my first 2 years here there's even been a threat of tornadoes but none too close to the areas I've been in. Mostly on the outskirts in somewhat nearby counties. This was the first that has been so close to us and threatening such densely populated areas. I'm happy to report the skies above are sunny today and nice sunny Memorial Day weekend weather is on tap!

Thunderous Late Afternoon!

Well it's a rainy afternoon here. It's been teasing us all week! The weather has been mostly overcast for much of the week it wasn't until today that it started to pour. The pugs and I got caught out in a little bit of the rain. While we were out the rain would start then stop. For me to rush the boys and myself home early while out on a walk we have to be getting soaked or dangerous lightening has to be around. Otherwise, I'm unwilling to give up on any of their walks during the course of a day. Today, I was hurrying the boys along as much as I could while we were outside. Poor Cody was likely thinking to himself, "geez, what's the rush!". It was only a little while before the rain cut loose after we arrived back home. It doesn't matter how many of these big D thunderstorms I experience I'm still quick to run to the balcony to see what the weather is doing.

The below pics are the boys out on the balcony. Cody is looking out at the wind and rain. Notice the stream of water he's looking towards through the railing. That water accumulated in a matter of a few minutes. And notice how Simon has little interest in checking out the storm he's more curious about what I'm doing with the camera this time around.

Dallas Freeway Driving!

What's it like driving in the Dallas area? I have one word for you.....MERGE! Yep, when driving around the DFW learn to merge and learn to do it quickly! Sometimes I seriously feel like I'm driving in a XBOX 360 video game. Mainly because of the high speed and merging maneuvers I have to do on freeways.

By far the strangest thing I had to get used to is that some freeways here merge into another freeway. Yes I said merging freeways....there is no off-ramp that leads to another freeway they just simply merge. One freeway ceases to exist and goes right into another freeway. So you are driving on one freeway then the next minute it merges into another freeway and you are quickly checking to see if you have space to fit your car into the merging lanes of the other freeway. Scary if you've never seen that type of merging before.

Dallas has a ton of freeways compared to anywhere else I've lived. I'm finally learning my sense of direction better. I can maneuver on these freeways pretty darn good now. I'm not going to go so far as to call myself a pro but I'm inching closer and closer to seasoned veteran on Dallas freeways.

The Silliness That Is Cody-Man!

It's no secret the boys crack me up! I had this idea to run through some of the silliest antics Cody does on an almost daily basis. So here it goes!

1) When he's doing his best to get that darn itch behind his ear or behind his shoulder blade, his tongue goes in and out. Just some weird involuntary movement that his ridiculously long tongue does while he's scratching.

2) When he gets up in the morning he must rough up his blanket. It's a must! After the blanket gets roughed up he moves on to the nearest toy. He can be so vicious with his toys yet he's not destructive! I love when he loses grip and the toy goes flying!

3) The "look at me dance"! Oh his "look at me dance" is a classic!!!!!! I need to get video of it someday! When Cody meets someone new or is greeting someone he knows he has a little dance he does. He spins around with the most excited expression he could have on his face. He's moving so fast it's hard for someone to actually pet him. He moves to the right then back to the left and all while moving his head about. He makes noise to go along with his dance too.

4) The way he walks. He's got quite the bounce to his step. He's got swagger! Oh and if he realizes people are watching him that swagger is turned up a few notches!

5) His expressions! He has some expressions that make me laugh out loud often. The one where he looks at me as if to question whether or not I'm trying to poison him with whatever food I'm suddenly offering him. He also has an expression that questions what Simon is doing. Sometimes I don't need to actually see Simon to know he's up to no good I just have to read Cody's face! I think Cody is the only dog I've ever known that can give so many expressions. There was one time Simon wanted to get to something and he wanted it fast! The shortest distance for Simon to get to that particular item was to go under Cody. Yes, I said "under" Cody. The look on Cody's face was priceless as Simon scurried under him and Cody somehow found himself on Simon's back for a brief second. Hilarious!!!!!!

6) He talks! Well I can't understand him but he certainly talks. Many mornings as I'm putting my shoes on to get ready to take him and Simon for a walk he is still waking up some. He yawns then makes a few squeaky noises as if he's telling me "Geez, it's early!". Or something like that!

7) His disgruntled moments! This likely shouldn't be funny and he probably wouldn't agree that it's funny but my boyfriend and I thinks it's kind of funny when Cody gets disgruntled. Cody lets you know when he isn't happy. He doesn't believe in hiding it!!!! He groans. Sometimes it's a low groan that increases as time passes by. Sometimes it's a groan that's direct at his brother sometimes it's directed at a pesky rawhide that he can't seem to take down. He's funny to listen too!

8) The heel dig! Cody has his moments on his walks where he refuses to be rushed. Or refuses to walk through water. He simply puts on the brakes and digs his little heels in. There's no budging a pug that is completely set on not being budged. This happened just yesterday! I was ready to move the boys on through the grassy area. But Cody wasn't ready to move. So he put his brakes on to stand his ground and let me know he will move when he's ready to move. When I looked back at him and asked what was up with him he then decided to move slightly to the left then proceed. It used to be very annoying to me but now it's kind of cute! It's his way of telling me not to rush him! What can I say that's just Cody...cautious and slow to move!

9) Well there's the "look at me" dance and the "hey, didn't you see me" whine. Going right along with the vocals of Cody he gives off a short whine when people pass by him that he believes should have been eager to pet him. How dare they!

10) Cody to the max! When I get ready to take the boys to my boyfriend's house he goes nuts. I mean nuts. He's jumping on things! He's running around like he's lost his head and can't find it. His excitement can not be contained. As I just stated Cody is normally rather cautious he doesn't do daring things like his brother but when he's excited to go somewhere he jumps up on the chair and climbs to the back balancing on the small frame of the top of the chair. He's of course not supposed to be on furniture so he's promptly told to get down. He literally goes crazy with excitement. It's as if he just drank a Red Bull! Maximum Cody-man!

And sometime soon I will do this same thing for all the silliness that is my Sime!!!

Gorgeous Weather!

The boys and I just got back from our second long walk of the day. It's absolutely gorgeous outside! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to be outside for an extended amount of time this afternoon. Therefore the boys were leashed up and off we went. We walked and walked found our way up to the church we attend. We, as in my boyfriend and I, not we, as in the boys and I. Lol!

The month of May is lovely here. Not too hot not too cold. Just right! The trees are big and green. Lots of flowers are in bloom all around. Rain seems to be somewhat frequent to help things to stay green during this month as well. I did consider going to the pool today before I decided on taking the boys for another long walk but lets face it...pools are boring if you aren't there to swim and you aren't an avid sunbather. Walking won out!

Just a side note but I always wonder why pool views at apartment complexes cost more. I mean I understand that it's a better view than looking out your window at a trash can. However, for me I'm not into the noise of the pool area. I think I've only lived in one apartment in my renting history that had a pool view. It wasn't really a pool view I should have argued with the complex concerning that. It was near the pool but on the opposite side of the building from where the pool was. Once I came out my door rounded the corner and began making my way to the stairs is when I could then see the pool but no view of the pool while inside my apartment. On that silly note I will end this post!

A Rainy Night!

Today is a super rainy day. Lots of thunder and lightening. The thunderstorm has lasted most of the day. It's great! Steady downpour! The other day me and the boys got caught out in the rain while on our morning walk. Fortunately today we completed our morning walk before the downpour started. This is exactly what I've been hoping for...a day where it rains continuously.

Sometimes the rain inspires me to do some baking but tonight I think I'm going to have quite the TV watching night. I have one season finale of a fave show of mine recorded and another season finale airs tonight. No, I'm not like the rest of America, anxiously watching American Idol. I did happen to turn on the TV at some point recently when J-Lo was performing during the result show. Yikes! Is she trying to bring back the M.C. Hammer pants?

Petco is Open!

Well my first time in the new Petco that opened in our area proved to be a profitable outing for the boys and little Storm. I stopped in to check out the new Petco, very curious to see how big it is. It's decent size, lots smaller than Petsmart obviously and slightly smaller than most Petco's in Phx. It does have a grooming section which I was pleased to discover. The boys will be getting groomed there for sure!

I went in for 2 items and neither item was a new bed. But I couldn't resist an adorable bed that I found, perfectly sized for 2 pugs to share. Not to mention it's full of color and action yet the colors are workable in my living room. Yes, I make sure the boys beds match the living room or whatever room they have a bed in. The hallway where there "night-time" beds are has it's own little color coordinated theme going on! I even made sure the colors in their hallway flowed well with the nearby living room. Yes, I'm crazy! Just slightly though! I like things to match...what can I say! The new bed has a patchwork quilt effect going on with a few cute dog scenes depicted.

As for Storm, she got a new ceramic bowl for her delicious canned food. She gets both dry food and canned food. The canned food is a new thing for her. She definitely loves it! The other day when I was in the kitchen and she heard the pantry door open she came running similar to how Simon comes running when he thinks it's his dinnertime. I couldn't help but laugh then fulfill her request for a little bit of canned food!

A Trip for Mom!

I didn't mean to not post for so many days. Sometimes I'm truly surprised when I log in then discover how many days it's been since my last post. As I've said before I simply just get busy! This past weekend was of course Mother's Day. No, the boys didn't get me a thing! Same as all the other years. LOL!

So my mom will be coming to Big D soon. I had the idea to give her a round trip plane ticket here for many months now. I thought the timing was great! Give her the ticket for Mother's day which will be good to use right at the time of her birthday. Coincidentally her birthday is one month away today!

Every time I tell Cody that his Grammie is coming he goes over to the window to look for her! So cute! But I have to stop doing that to him because he really does understand and goes to look. Although I do explain to him after he goes to look that she is coming here soon not today. If he understands that part I'm not sure, he does seem content after I tell him that though.

Side Note: Here in Dallas the biggest news of all for this past Sunday was the fact that the Mavs took down the Lakers in a sweep! Yes, they swept them. We didn't get a chance to turn on the game until it was into the 3rd quarter. Boy, we couldn't believe our eyes, the score looked almost too good to be true. I think all of us did a double take!

2 Years in Big D!

Well as of today, me and the pugs are celebrating our 2nd anniversary in Big D. Yep, it's already been 2 years! I remember my first few days here vividly. It rained a lot during our first 6 weeks here. Which I loved especially since my original plan was to move back to Seattle. Dallas came into view when Seattle simply didn't feel right! During those first 6 weeks I felt I was being shown that Seattle had a purpose in my life long ago but it's purpose was to prepare me for Dallas.

As I type this Cody is snoring in his bed. Snoring rather loud might I add! I love how comfortable the boys got with Dallas when we moved here. You can tell when your pets aren't totally comfortable or are unsure of themselves in a new environment but the boys took to Dallas very well and quickly too.

Of course I still believe the most noteworthy thing to me about my first day here was the strikingly handsome guy in the leasing office. I couldn't help but notice him! I kept looking over the shoulder of the person I was talking with to look at him. Now that he's my boyfriend, he only gets cuter to me! Sweet and adorable!

My J.C. Penney's Story!

Okay here's an interesting story! I've never had this happen before and I purchase things online more than I actually should. And when reading this story you will likely never guess where I'm going with it.

I ordered some things from J.C. Penney's, something I've done numerous times before. I made my order before we left for our vacation to AZ. Those items likely should have arrived before we left but they didn't. I didn't think much of it. Sometimes Penney's is quick with sending the merchandise out and sometimes they aren't. Over the last two weeks I've checked my email frequently for a message from Penney's regarding the delay. Nothing from them. Low and behold what is in my mail this past Friday? No not my merchandise finally arriving. Instead it was a refund check for the entire amount I spent on the merchandise I ordered. Absolutely no explanation as to what happened and why they couldn't fulfill my order. With the check there was one sentence that tells me to write them a letter if I have any questions or concerns regarding the transaction further. I'm happy I got my money back. However, I still think the situation is weird!

Random Thoughts!

It's a very rainy day here in big D. It was a rainy day yesterday too. Not as rainy as today has been so far but I took advantage of the rainy weather and got in the kitchen to do some baking yesterday. I've been hoping for a seriously rainy day. One that lasted all day long. Dallas is known for them around this time of the year as it seems to me.

Well I'm watching plenty of news this morning. Lots of thoughts rolling through my mind right now. As reported they've been working for 8 or 9 years trying to track Bin Laden. The old administration started this but the current administration is taking all the credit. Kind of irritating especially if you aren't a supporter of the current administration. Oh and that "mansion" or "compound" that Bin Laden was tracked to doesn't look that nice compared to American standards.

In other news the Mavs start their series with the annoying Lakers tonight. Which reminds me I have to start preparing myself to be annoyed later. LOL! I kind of wonder if I wasn't from Phx would the Lakers bug me so much? They likely wouldn't! I think in Phx you grow up one of 2 ways...either in awe of glitzy glamorous L.A. or completely irritated that so many think L.A. is so glitzy and glamorous. And if you follow sports at all being annoyed by the city of L.A. can only grow over the years. The Lakers taking down the Suns. Those darn USC Trojans always giving ASU problems! Frustrating! I shake my fist at the thought of that city!

Yikes as I'm typing this...thunder just boomed in the skies above shaking the building and windows. I jumped out of my chair to check on the boys and Cody was already up moving over to Simon's bed. Safety in numbers is obviously Cody's thought!
