The Days of a Simmie

It's Flashback Friday here on the blog. Flashing back to the wonderful days with a Simmie in our lives. As of this past Thursday it's been one full year since saying goodbye to my sweet little man! I miss him each day! He had an amazing presence about him. He was quite simply one cool little dude with loads of personality!

And for added appeal a flashback video...(Last 10 seconds of this video are the best, I absolutely love the way Simon looks at me when I praise him for his good catch, then he lets the toy go as his little sis comes over!)

Texas Pug

Its Go Texan Day! Which is more of a Houston thing, but Cody likes to represent for ALL of Texas. Therefore, to celebrate Cody threw on his cowboy hat then insisted I take a pic of him. Perhaps, he would have preferred if I had waited for him to fully complete his yawn before taking the pic. LOL!

Can we consider him a Texan by now? He's lived more of his years thus far in Texas than anywhere else. I think he's a little Texan by now, or at least an honorary Texan!

To Cody: Daddy will be so happy you chose the little blue cowboy hat to wear big Cody-man!

An Egg-cellent Tuesday

Oh my, oh my! Am I awake? Am I dreaming? Am I sleepwalking? I'm in a fog as I stumble through my day.

This week is maintenance appreciation week at Brad's company. Which means all the property managers have special little things planned each day this week. Today was providing breakfast for the entire maintenance staff at all properties in Fort Worth. As property manager of the property we live at Brad was assigned eggs! Or should I get extremely picky and say Brad's wife was assigned eggs? I felt like a short order cook this morning. Providing breakfast for just the maintenance staff at the property we live at would have been easy-breezy. Providing breakfast for the maintenance staffs at ALL Fort Worth properties his company owns....holy smokes!

There I was late last night in our kitchen doing the prep work. I had the whole top shelf of our fridge filled with cartons of eggs. I chopped up all kinds of meats, veggies, and herbs to go into the eggs when I cooked them. All eggs got scrambled, pans of eggs were all done slightly different. The hardest part was figuring out how to keep them warm while they were en route to the site of the breakfast. Not an easy task since Brad had to travel about 40 minutes to get to the hosting spot. But we figured it out and all worked out well! Except for one minor issue....C-O-D-Y.

Cody was not cooperating with our extra early morning start of the day. Actually Cody was not cooperating way before Tuesday morning arrived. He had me up numerous times during the night. Then this morning the eggs were prepared while Cody performed his latest album of whining. Dealing with Cody plus getting up super early equals moving through my day today after only 3 hours of sleep.  And now you understand the first few questions posed at the beginning of this post!;)

Gem of a Gym

Even though Piper is a little thief, she still scored a new toy this weekend. We couldn't help but get this special activity gym for our little furry when we saw it. It reminds me of activity gyms for babies. Someone got brilliant and made a version for cats.

While out and about on Saturday afternoon we noticed a store that neither of us had ever taken the time to go into. We had the time so we thought why not go check it out once we finished looking at Petsmart. Priorities! Look at the random store after we take care of the real business at Petsmart. LOL! Once inside the random store Brad was focused on the exercise equipment. While he stayed fixated on muscle rollers I went on to browse some more, I soon came across a small pet section. Within the pet section was this unique large toy for cats. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price of the activity gym for cats either. It was priced super reasonable. At such a bargain price we had nothing to lose if Piper for some strange reason didn't like it. Although it was hard to believe she wouldn't like it.

Since getting it on Saturday, if Piper is not actively playing within the gym then she's casually sitting in the middle. Either way it was worth every penny. It was actually worth double the price in my mind, if not triple! Compared to the amount we've spent on some of her other "fancy" toys I totally would have paid triple the amount for this gem of an activity gym! In the second video her brother can be heard in the background...he loves to whine, he was adding his 2 cents. ;)

Quick Snap Sunday...on Monday

I arrived here on the blog briefly yesterday but I couldn't bear to post another pic and bump my precious puggies down a notch to make room for a new Quick Snap Sunday post. So I waited an extra day. This is now "Quick Snap Sunday on Monday" or "Quick Snap Monday". Both titles work for me. Without further delay, the quickly snapped pic is of an annoying little sister, Cody would totally classify her annoying. Her mommie, not so much! However, Cody and I would agree she is definitely a little thief. Here is evidence of her thief-like nature. She nudged Cody whom is very skittish these days, due to his loss of eyesight in an effort to snag a cozy warm spot. So she gave him a nudge, he popped up and moved in a startled manner, she then moved into his bed and under his heating pad. The little thief! It wasn't long before I returned to the room and figured out what had taken place then I made her move. But of course I snapped a photo first. LOL!

Cowboy Cody and Cowboy Simon

It's flashback Friday on the blog, let's flashback to the time a pic was captured of the cutest ever little puggie cowboys! At the time, we had just barely moved to Texas. Most likely only being in Texas for about a week. The bandanas were courtesy of a trip to the groomers, their first trip to the groomers since arriving in their new home state. The absolute best thing about my boys...that head tilt! Gotta love the pug head tilt.

side note: I couldn't stop staring at this pic. It's one of my top faves of my two boys. I absolutely love it. Love the memories that flood my mind when I look at it. Bittersweet memories! Especially since the anniversary of losing Simon is fast approaching.

Brownie Points?

Do I get brownie points for finding a BB8 Valentine's Day gift bag for Brad's gift? Perhaps! How can I not get brownie points for a Star Wars nod today? LOL! My 2nd gift to Brad in the striped paper, I'm not sure about those stripes? Three of the four stripes are fine but that pink stripe looks a little too girly. But that will be overlooked thanks to the BB8 Star Wars bag! LOL!

I hate to complain on a holiday such as this but here's my small complaint. I'm calling it my "manly" complaint. There are two occasions that pop up each year that pose quite the dilemma for me because there's a lack of "manly" options.  Greeting cards for anniversaries and greeting cards for Valentine's day are never very "manly" looking. And why does everything have to have glitter on it? I get it in a way because anniversaries and Valentine's day are apparently supposed to be focused on the wife but come on people...it's 2018...my husband wants to celebrate those occasions just as much as I do...so sell some cards that look a little more manly...PLEASE!

Oh and don't get me started on choosing a box of candy for Brad this time of year! I spent more time than any human should spend obsessing over which box of candy was a decent size and didn't look to feminine. Seriously, I was there looking at candy so long it started to get embarrassing! ;)

Perhaps, though the REAL problem is ME! I think about things way too in depth. What can I say, I overthink nearly everything! There's only 5 decisions I've made in life that I didn't overthink and simply went with my heart and/or gut! Those all turned out exceedingly well too! LOL! Can you guess those 5 decisions?

Haven't you heard of the Cupid Pug?!
What you've never heard of the Cupid Pug? Well he's real! Trust me! And he's as cute as can be, no fear of his little heart-shaped arrows!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Quick Snap Sunday

The Cody Obstacle

Cody says: "Go ahead mommie, bake cookies! Don't mind me, I'm just going to lay right in front of the oven while you bake. It's cold outside, I saw snow falling earlier so naturally I want to be in the warm kitchen while the oven is going. I'm toasty warm, while you are a bit challenged to do your baking thing and not step on me...good luck!"

Puggie Plates

Are these the cutest plates ever or what? Pugs on plates, that's genius!! These were an adorable little gift from Brad's Aunt Vickie. I was so over the moon as soon as I pulled them out of the bag she sent them in. Only problem is...can I really eat off a pug plate? I'm already finding myself being amazingly protective of them. You should have seen me getting them out of the dishwasher, I treated them like they were the world's most expensive set of China. LOL!

Olympics, Sleeplessness, Party Time, and Sibling Rivalry

Well if Cody decides to get me up at 2 AM then again at 4 AM, I can watch the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics live from S. Korea. Broadcasting in REAL time could work out well for me this Olympic games. LOL! I wasn't too excited about the announcement of REAL time broadcasting. But that's because they first announced it like they were going to do away with the primetime edition of the Olympics. Once I found out everything is in REAL time but they will also package the most popular stuff together and do the nightly primetime broadcasts I relaxed a bit about it. I have a life, I can't sit around and watch the Olympics 24-7. I depend on the primetime coverage BIG time. LOL!

But I can see turning on the TV in the middle of the night to get REAL time coverage while I'm up pacing the floor with Cody. The last 2 nights have featured me being up with my puggie. No, he hasn't been sick. He just doesn't want to go to bed. I'm not sure what the issue is. We've tried everything to figure it out too. Does he get his days and nights confused since going blind? Or is this just a thing with older-vintage pets. Because we dealt with the same exact issue with Storm during her last 6 months of life and she never went blind. She could see us up until her last breath. So who knows, all I know is Cody is not fond of bed at bedtime in recent days. "In recent days" is the key phrase, he goes through spells of not wanting to go to bed then transitions back to spells of sleeping through the night. Life with a vintage pug is interesting! Overall, I'm just glad to still have him, so I'll deal with the lack of sleep. I'll deal with so sleepy of moments that I look down to notice I have only one shoe on. Wondering where the other one is? Wondering just how long have I been walking around with only one shoe? True story! LOL!

This past weekend we had a combo birthday party for my in-laws. I think the party went well! I felt like it went well at least. I had decorated the house two days before the party day. When Brad arrived home and saw the decorations he immediately commented on the banner stating "Happy Birthday Mom and Dad". He instantly said, "How cool, that you found a banner with both mom and dad on it". I looked at him with a puzzled expression then clued him in, "Uh, honey, I made that banner I didn't buy it! And Piper helped! She kept sitting on it." LOL!

After we have a get-together or go to a get-together, a form of sibling rivalry comes out. Being an only child I missed out on all that sibling rivalry stuff. However, I now have to deal with it as a wife. LOL! Brad seems to take note of moments during each get-together when his mom pays more attention to his brother than to him. After that short explanation can you tell Brad is the youngest? No matter how old him and his brother get, I believe Brad will have moments of wanting to do a handstand in an effort to steal his mom's attention from his brother. LOL! Don't get anything twisted from this paragraph, everyone gets along great in Brad's family. Brad and Rob are close. And Brad is of course close to his mom. But "little bro syndrome", that somewhat innate desire within the little brother to try to steal mom's attention is always going to exist from time to time. LOL!

Before recent years with Brad the "sibling rivalry" I was most experienced with is demonstrated in the pics below. LOL!

Stand Your Ground

There I was with multiple bags of groceries in both hands as I struggled to unlock our front door. Without any warning at the exact moment I began to open the front door a large dog came out of nowhere from behind me. Apparently he was roaming the staircase. No owner and no leash! The large dog busted his way in front of me and into our living room he arrived before I could blink my eyes. My eyes immediately did a turbo speed scan of the room to locate my fur babies and assess the amount of danger they were in. Cody was off in a far corner sleeping and the intruder beast was not heading in his direction. As I scanned the room for Piper I carelessly dropped the groceries while I was tripping over myself to catch up to the big dog. Usual Piper fashion is for her to be rather fast to make her way to the front door when she hears it opening. Sure enough as the big dog turned to head towards our dining/kitchen areas Piper came around the corner from the kitchen. She was moving at typical hyper-Piper speed when she instantly put the brakes on as her gaze met the gaze of a big dog she'd never seen before. She's used to pugs and anything in that general size category. Her cousin is a dachshund and her aunt is a chihuahua. A beast of this size is a first for her.

I hate to say this but my mind was forced to suddenly imagine the worst as I began to watch the scene play out. What my mind was imagining was a soon to be gruesome scene with this dog attacking my sweet cat-daughter. I was set on preventing anything terrible from happening, obviously. As the uninvited beast went closer to Piper, I was of course thinking she's smart enough to run, and she certainly has the gift of speed. I then loudly tell her to run. As the large dog gets closer to my cat-daughter and I appear to be running after this dog in slow motion, I'm completely astonished at Piper's response. Did she turn to run? Nope. She showed no fear. I mean, NO FEAR. She simply stood her ground! Her eyes and expression read, "this is my house, and my mom is about to bust you up if you touch me". Next thing I know my husband is running up the stairs as he heard the commotion that was coming from our apartment. Brad took over the duties of grabbing the big beastly dog and escorting him out of our house. While I picked up Piper, whom was more calm than her mommie.

Piper is quite the cat! She is sweet, sensitive, loving, and apparently not afraid to stand her ground when nose to nose with a big dog she's never seen before. Somewhere in heaven Simon was looking down at his little sister today and was quite pleased I'm sure as he watched that scene play out. He likely puffed up his chest and thought to himself, "I taught her that!" LOL!

Sleepy Cody

These days Cody can sleep just about anywhere. Sometimes the search is on to find him. Even when I've set him down in his bed then walked into the kitchen to prep dinner items, I'll return to see that Cody has vacated his bed. Today, he fell asleep with his head partially on the bottom area of our coffee table. Aww, look how cute he still is.
