Gearing up for Super Bowl

We had a rather busy weekend and the busy weekend was followed up by a busy Monday. Monday's are always busy for me however! I think I've mentioned that before. I'm also so tired on Mondays I think it's the weird hours I keep during the weekend, by the time Monday rolls around my body wants extra sleep to catch up.

We of course watched the final matches of the Aussie Open this past weekend. The men's final was nothing short of AMAZING. It ended up being 7 minutes shy of 6 hours. For almost 6 hours Nadal and Djokovic battled each other on a tennis court. Geesh! Just imagine how hard that would be to play tennis at such a high level for 6 hours!!!!! Imagine how many miles they must have run just traveling all over the court. It was obviously the longest men's final in the history of the game.

Alright this weekend is another big sports weekend...time for the Super Bowl! I'm already thinking and planning our little Super Bowl get-together. We're ordering pizza....easy-breezy! I haven't decided what to do for wings. Will I make them myself or not? Not sure I want to attempt wings for the first time for the Super Bowl. I'm also thinking about making my 7-layer dip! I love making appetizers. Appetizers and desserts are things I truly love to make.

For a special Super Bowl treat I might surprise my boyfriend with some scotcheroos. Those that don't know what scotcheroos are...they are rice krispie treats with butterscotch chips mixed in and a layer of chocolate on top. I haven't had them in years! A friend of mine recently made us some rice krispie treats with M&M's mixed in. They were delish! Never had them with M&M's before...great idea! I'm also in the mood to bake a pie though. An easy pie! Then again pie and the Super Bowl don't seem to mix. When I think of the Super Bowl I think of easy to grab foods and treats! I'll figure it out, I still have some days to think on it!

Weather!

I can't believe the weather this year so far. Is it Spring already? We've had a good amount of rain. It smells like rain outside tonight! It's not just the amount of rain this time of year that's different it's the overall temps. It's not cold. It's cool at times but not cold in recent days/weeks. I actually went around today in a t-shirt and jeans. As if it was late April! January has been super mild! It's as if January didn't get the memo that it's a winter month! LOL!

We've had some cold days but they've been few and far between. Cody is loving it! I'm loving it too! Yet I'm in disbelief that this is really our weather right now.

Every time I have mentioned to my mom to come for a visit in the Spring around Boo-Boo's bday she has always come back with the fact that it's still too cold. Which is normally correct. However, not this year so far!

Last year was the year of extreme temps. An extremely cold winter that broke records and then we had an extremely hot summer that broke records. Maybe 2012 is the year of mild temps?

Rain Soaked!

Dallas has been drenched in rain. It started raining at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon and didn't let up until around noon today. Since letting up there's been a few brief showers this afternoon. The showers will continue this evening as well. I don't mind I love the rain!

If a person was trying to sleep soundly in the Dallas area last night it wasn't in the cards! The rain pounded at times and the thunder boomed. At times the windows and building shook. Thankfully the boys have gotten used to these TX-sized storms so they no longer bark as much as they used to when these storms hit. When the storms first began the boys were a little anxious. They soon realized the storms outside were going to continue for quite awhile so just deal with it!

Early this morning both boys looked at me as if I had lost my head as I attempted to get them out of their beds. Simon was seriously hard to get out of his bed. He didn't want to move. Going potty outside in the rain didn't sound good to him. Cody wasn't all for it either but he wasn't as hard to convince as little Sime. Once the rain stopped for awhile I finally was able to take them out for a combo walk. They got their morning walk and afternoon walk at the same time. I seriously made them do both routes! Yes, I'm crazy! Yes, I'm obsessed with them getting their proper exercise! Yes, they have a lot of patience to deal with me! Oh and since that combo walk extraordinaire they've both been fast asleep. Waking up only briefly to check and make sure I'm still in my office working.

It really was quite incredible to see that much rain come down for as long as it did. The morning newspaper featured a picture of the rain water rising to hood level of parked cars. This was not a misty type of rain by no means this rain came down in buckets!

Football Sunday!

So obviously for me and the football freak that I am the highlight of my weekend was Sunday's NFL Championship games. I was completely happy with the outcomes of the games. I would have possibly preferred the Ravens slightly more than the Patriots. I have some players on the Ravens team now that I'm not fond of whereas I'm pretty neutral when it comes to the Patriots.

I'm so glad the 49ers didn't make it! Of the 4 remaining teams the 49ers were my least favorite. Their coach comes off to me as a slightly classier version of the Jets coach Rex Ryan. And believe me that's not a compliment! I understand tough defense and trying to get the ball at all cost however, they constantly hack at the ball. I know it's part of the game to attempt to strip the other team of the ball, just gets slightly annoying to watch over and over again as the game goes on. Not to mention on numerous plays they seem to tackle to injure not tackle to stop the play. Yes, there's a difference in my mind. But the number one issue I have with the 49ers....now this is strictly the Cardinal fan in me coming out....whenever they've played my lovely Cards in recent years they act so macho, as if they were playing in the Super Bowl. In recent years when watching the 49ers play the Cardinals I always scream at the TV. Alright I think I've accurately described why I'm not a 49ers fan. Oh wait....don't even get me started on their fans. Saints fans were so harassed by 49ers fans that they had to put undercover police officers in the stands for the game yesterday. I also saw online earlier that one of the 49ers players that made 2 big time mistakes received death threats just hours after the team's loss. Not an example of a positive, peaceful fan base that's for sure! Definitely not a team I will be cheering for any time soon.

As I mentioned a few weeks back I thought it would be interesting if Eli could make it to the Super Bowl that is played in the stadium his brother's team plays at and now it's going to happen. I'm happy for the Giants. I will be rooting for the Giants come Super Bowl Sunday!

The best news of all from Sunday is that my boyfriend and I won his office football pool. They've been doing a pool that allows for someone to win per quarter for one of the games. We won not 1 but 2 different quarters. Yay for us!

A post by the one and only Sime-Boo-Boo!

Ah yes, it is I, Simon C. Peterson. FINALLY I get to make a post! Cody has made 2 since this blog started. Mommie said she hasn't let me because I'm a bit unpredictable...somewhat of a loose cannon! I suppose that's slightly true! My border is slightly touching the rebel side! Cody is very predictable and borders on BORING if you ask me! He's the goody-goody! Yesterday he got in trouble and moped around for hours about it. I got in trouble with him but it didn't bother me for more than 2 seconds. Okay it bothered me a little longer partly because I didn't get my afternoon snack thanks to the trouble us pugs got into. Still don't expect me to mope! I'm way toooooo cool to mope!

I'm sure most of you have been waiting on the edge of your seats wondering when the opportunity to read a post by the amazing Boo-Boo would come. Well today is your lucky day! Have fun!

So what is life like for me? I'm not going to lie I'm living quite well. I get all my needs met on a daily basis. My biggest complaint is that my needs are met according to mommie's schedule. I would prefer things to happen according to my schedule. My policy though is to just stare at her until the time comes for my dinner or a walk.

My brother's decently cool! He plays with toys a lot. I like to get in more zzzz's then he does. He sometimes tries to get me to play with him, I have to tell him I'm getting my "handsome" sleep. That's the key to staying as cute as I am you see!

Yesterday mommie vacuumed. As mommie was vacuuming Cody's toy got sucked up. Cody was shocked not to mention slightly horrified at the sight of his little bear being on the floor one second and the next second all but one leg had been eaten by the vacuum. It was quite the scene. I was waiting for Cody to start crying. Moments later the vacuum sucked up a rawhide that was laying just inches from my head. Yes, I said inches from my head. Normally I'm not leery of the vacuum or anything else. I'm so cool I don't feel the need to move or run from things so I typically just refuse to move, making mommie vacuum around me. Although, I'm starting to realize I have to be on guard when this new vacuum of mommie's comes out. The new vacuum is called the "Pet Expert"....I'm not sure what that means. So far it means to me that it eats my rawhides and Cody's toys. Geesh!

Well it's been fun folks! It's time for me to get a little mini nap in before I need to start staring at mommie in an effort to let her know it's time for my second walk of the day! Don't worry I'll be back online soon! Hopefully!...I suppose that is if mommie approves of this post.

Shhh, Don't Tell Cody and the Aussie Open!

It's been a rather busy week for me. Of course that's not anything new! As for the weather in big D. It's confused! The weather can't make up it's mind! One day it feels as though Spring has sprung and the next I'm putting a log on the fireplace. Today has been a picture perfect day outside. I'm sure Cody has enjoyed it. And the best news of all for the Cody-man is that another day like today is in the forecast for tomorrow! Although I'm not telling him that temps will fall more than 20 degrees lower by Saturday. We'll let that part be a surprise!

Another thing I'm not telling Cody is that while he was at the groomers last week mommie went through his toy box. I threw away a ton of toys....17 to be exact. Yes, I counted! I said to my boyfriend that I threw away 17 toys and asked him if he could believe how many I threw away. I expected his reply to be in the area of surprise for that many toys to be tossed but instead he was more surprised I actually counted!

Each night this week I have looked forward to watching the Australian Open. It started this past Sunday. My only complaint is that ESPN gives too much attention to basketball(college and pro) and not enough attention to tennis. The Australian Open is only 2 weeks out of the year. Basketball will be going for months. Oh well, I'm happy with what I can see. Because it's in Australia it's on live during the evenings and it goes until some point in the middle of the night. I stayed up way too late watching it on Tuesday night, then last night I could hardly keep my eyes open by the time it came on. Tonight I feel somewhat more rested, I anticipate watching it extra late!

My Week in Review!

My week went well for the most part. It was a bitter cold week outside. Cody preferred the warm confines of home most of the time. I am happy to report though that he is a trooper. He survived the horrible wind chill that made it feel as though it was 20 degrees. Wind chill is the absolute worst to deal with. A chilly day in and of itself combined with icy cold wind blasting you in the face when you walk outside...not fun! It has gotten easier for me to adapt to these cold temps. Not one, not two, but three layers for me is a must when there's an arctic blast outside my door. At least that round of super coldness didn't last long, it's perfect weather today!

I had one of those run away basket moments this week while out getting logs for the fireplace. I loaded my groceries in the cargo area then looked up to notice my basket with the fireplace logs in it was rolling at a brisk pace down the parking lot row. I had to put a move on it to catch up to it.

Another funny moment this week happened while I was working out. I was using a stretchy resistance band as I was doing my reps of a certain exercise my band broke. Imagine my surprise when I looked down to see only a portion of the band in each hand.

Now I must brag about my deal of the week! Up until yesterday I didn't have a 2012 calendar. I've been dragging my feet about going out and getting one, obviously! I looked online and found an awesome pug calendar. I think I've had a pug calendar every year since getting the pugs! It's a must! So anyway I found the calendar I liked the best of all the puggie calendar options, it was a whopping $33. I refuse to spend that much on a calendar even if it is a pug one. Yesterday while dropping the boys off at the groomers I notice a display filled with pet calendars 50% off. I rummaged through the many racks and sure enough I finally came across the exact pug calendar I saw online. I paid only $7.50! Sweet deal!

Weather and Football!

The weather in Big D has been interesting, as usual. Last week was picture perfect! I couldn't believe how wonderful it was. Cody and Storm suntanned each day. Both of them laying in close proximity together just catching some rays! So cute! However, it warmed us up just to cool us down this week. It's been rather cold thus far. Today wasn't too bad but tonight has gotten cold and windy. And the wind outside is not playing around, it's seriously strong. I hope it blows all the acorns to Houston! Simon certainly wouldn't agree with me!

I looked forward to the National Championship game this past Monday night. It wasn't the epic game I thought it would be. Still a good game though! Oh and there were players with some pretty good last names....one named Cody and one named Simon. So naturally after noticing that I had to root for Alabama! The funniest part of the game was that the commentator kept saying the term "honeybadger". What's a honeybadger? I wish I would've counted how many times he said honeybadger. As a result it's my favorite new word of the week!

Soooooo glad the Steelers are done! I had great faith that the Broncos would take care of business! Yay for them! I look forward to the games this weekend. I know it's late on Wednesday night but I'm ready for the weekend!

Wildcard Weekend!

Well it's wildcard weekend for the NFL. Since there's no Cowboys or Cardinals in the play-offs, my top team has become Houston. I have to go with the other TX team in this instance! We of course watched the games yesterday. We were completely for Houston but were more sympathetic towards the Bengals then we would've been of any other team going up against them. Sympathetic, only because Bengals quarterback was TCU's Rose Bowl winning QB of last year.

Kind of a weird season for the play-offs. Seems like a couple of unlikely teams managed to get in. I won't mention names as to whom I'm not so sure deserved their spots...it is what it is. Just seems a little lopsided when you look over the full list of teams in the play-offs. Strong teams vs. a few mediocre wanna-be's. At the same time there's few teams I detest this year. Glad the Jets aren't in! Hopeful that the Steelers and Patriots won't go far!

We're currently watching the Giants game. I really don't care who wins, however, wouldn't it be something if the Giants made it to the Super Bowl? The Super Bowl is in Indy. Noteworthy if the brother of Peyton Manning makes it to the Super Bowl played in Indy! Or at least I think that would be interesting!

Difficult Week!

I haven't been feeling that great this week. I spent Tuesday relaxing as much as I could to try to feel better. But apparently dealing with sickness wasn't enough for me, I wanted to heal from something else too.

Despite years of practice on Tuesday night it was as if I had just begun to walk. I was at the top of the stairs, with no lights on. I was walking down the stairs with both boys in front of me. They made it to the bottom. As they set their feet firmly on the ground they looked up at me to see me flying at them full force. Every man for himself kids....get out of the way! I think I fell with about 4 maybe 5 steps to go before reaching the bottom. I fell on my left side. I fell so hard I had no breath in my lungs at first. Never had that type of feeling after a fall before. After getting up I instantly realized my back was strained on the left side.

For the last 2 days I have had to limit my activities drastically. Even bending down to put leashes on the boys is a chore. Not to mention walking them! Driving hurts too, well driving isn't too bad it's getting up into my SUV that's the biggest problem. It feels a little better today than yesterday and I can only hope that it gets better fast. I'm not used to being so darn stationary. I feel like a 78 year old woman with a significant hitch in my giddy-up. Geez!

Tuesday night was interesting for us here. I had taken my tumble around 6 in the evening and a few hours later my boyfriend got a little too into his Kinect game. He was playing tennis a sport he loves. He of course wanted his experience on the video game to be as life-like as possible so he got all ready to serve similar to how he would serve on a real tennis court. He ended up extending his arm a little too much and hit one of the lightbulbs on the ceiling fan. Exploding light bulb pieces went all over. He was left with a cut on his hand. I tell you...we were quite the pair this past Tuesday night.

New Year...new friend!

Love was in the air on New Year's Eve for little Sime! He wasn't welcoming of this loving possibility! And like some love stories it started out a little rough!

On New Year's Eve my boyfriend's brother and sister-in-law brought their new puppy with them for our get-together. As soon as this little girl dog hit the door Simon objected to her. Even though we weren't at our house we were at my boyfriend's place he still believes it's his territory. How dare this new little puppy walk in to his territory....his home away from home. He was acting up barking at her trying to get at her. He was acting like a fool! Then the puppy's mommie offered him a treat from the puppy's treat bag. From that point on he was suddenly calm.

The funniest part was the puppy's fascination with Simon. Despite the fact that he kept giving her the cold-shoulder. He was tolerate of her since she brought treats but giving her too much of his attention was not in his plans. He's a lone wolf! He has no need for a girlfriend. He has a mommie, a brother, mommie's boyfriend and somewhere in AZ he knows he has a grammie...his circle of peeps is wide enough in his opinion! No room for a girlfriend! The puppy was rather insistant though, coming up to him trying her hardest to get on his good side. We kept teasing him that she wanted to be his girlfriend. She would even attempt to get nose to nose. He would shy away and leave the room.

Cody is instantly cool with anyone and everyone. Simon however isn't as accepting. He's more the type that has to warm up to people and warm up to certain situations. It was definitely funny to watch!

Happy 2012!

Happy New Year to all! We had a great New Year's Eve. We had a small get-together. I made chicken enchiladas and my special enchilada bread along with all the appropriate fixings for a small fiesta! We played games all night long! We stopped only long enough to celebrate the new year. At midnight little Simon again enjoyed a couple sips of champagne!

And I'm happy to report that my cheesecake turned out alright. It tastes great! I think I may have slightly over cooked it. It turned out well though considering it was my very first attempt at cheesecake. The cheesecake cracked on top but I did a pretty good job of fixing it so that it looked good. I will definitely try another cheesecake again sometime soon. I have ideas on how to make it even better. I've realized cheesecake is certainly a dessert that's going to take a few tries or more to perfect.
