Weekend Yet?

Is it the weekend yet? Hurry up and get here! This has been a long week. Lots of little things have popped up to navigate through this week. I'm ready to just chill!

On Saturday we are having a get-together for my in-laws birthdays. It's a combo bday celebration! The get-together was supposed to be small. Brad wanted his parents to himself, so to speak. He only wanted a party of 5. Now suddenly the small get-together has grown in numbers.

Let's see what else? Is there something going on this Sunday? The puppy bowl has my attention. Oh yeah, that darn Super Disappointment Bowl(that's what I have termed it this year) is on too. I'm looking forward to making stuff for the game and having people over but I'm not actually looking forward to the game. I don't like either team...not even a little bit. Therefore, I'm going to be one of those people that watches solely to see the commercials. So they better deliver on the ads this year.

Side Note: As it stands at this moment I have been forbidden to bake a cake for the get-together on Saturday. Brad wants to buy one because I've had so much to do this past week plus I will be cooking on Super Disappointment Bowl Sunday. He doesn't want me spending back to back days of the weekend in the kitchen doing complicated things. Very kind of him! However, can I actually go buy a cake at the store? People really buy cakes? Hmm, this is not something I ever do. We'll see come Saturday if I haven't talked my husband into letting me bake the cake.

Quite The Experience

Well Landon has his first ear infection of his young life. Poor little dude! It's been caught very early on so he should get over it quickly. However, I'm not sure that's the most noteworthy thing about my afternoon? The vet appointment turned into quite the experience. First off let me warn you this post is going to get gross, stop reading if you want to.

Let's start at the beginning, we arrived at the vet office. Note to self, Landon is not ready to walk on a leash into the vet office. Duh! Clearly I've been used to older dogs and not a puppy. Landon became petrified as soon as I set him down on the ground after getting him out of the SUV. Of course, I quickly picked him up and carried him in. We are now inside the office and we've checked in and been given the standard clipboard. Let me pause briefly...why is there a clipboard now with 2 pages of questions I have to fill out every time I take a pet to the vet? Anyway, back to my story, I'm sitting there with Landon next to me. He's kind of half on my leg and half on the pillow next to me. As I'm filling out the paperwork I notice he's shaking. I put the clipboard aside to give him some love and assure him it's okay. As I'm assuring him it's okay...it suddenly wasn't okay! It was like a volcano, I wish I was exaggerating but I'm not. Landon threw up with no warning right in my lap and on my sleeve. My pants were soaked in his vomit. Parts of my sweater including my sleeve were soaked in his vomit. I was a sight!

A lady at the front desk came over with tissues. Oh, those 3 tissues she brought me were not helping the large mess I had. It was so embarrassing! I had to go through the appointment covered in Landon's vomit. I looked horrendous and oh man, I smelled horrendous!!! As far as the drive home, thank goodness we have leather seats as I wouldn't have wanted to sit on cloth seats. Plus the windows had to be down a little, we needed serious air circulation.

Side Note:
Ding, ding, ding...we have a new winner. When Simon was about 7, while at the vet with him, I was paying with him in my arms. As I was handing my card to the lady behind the desk Simon happened to notice some treats. In the blink of an eye he had launched himself from my arms and onto the desk as he scampered towards the treats. After getting him under control I looked down at myself, noticing my shirt was ripped. He had ripped my shirt in the process of escaping my arms to get to the treats. I walked out of the vet office very carefully with him positioned in front of me to block my ripped shirt. Up until today that was the most embarrassing situation at a vet office. Not anymore, today with Landon is my new most embarrassing moment at a vet office!

Quick Snap Sunday

Just a man representing his favorite team as we watch the NFL Pro Bowl. LOL! Okay, his 2nd favorite team! Better be his 2nd favorite, right? Yeah, sorry Texans you got bumped to 3rd favorite when I entered Brad's world.

First Six

My little dude is halfway to his 1st birthday, 6 months old today. For 6 whole months this little dude has been gracing the world with his presence....crazy unruly hair and all. Trust me there's no taming that hair...and I wouldn't want to, it's part of his overall character and style.

Do you like his dice? He's a high roller. LOL! So he's 6 months old which means we've had him for 4 months. What a ride it's been. It's gone quick. I blinked and we were to this point. What all does he know you ask?...

- He knows plenty of commands like: focus, sit, wait, etc. He can also shake hands and give a high five.
- He's fully potty trained. He's even been trained to a bell to ask to go outside, since we don't have a doggie door.
- Gets along with his sister better each day. Although the delay there was on her not him.
- He's well-behaved when we leave.
- He's been trained to stay away from us when we eat. He usually naps during dinnertime.
- In recent weeks I now fully trust him to hang out in the living room while I prepare meals in the kitchen.
- He walks well on his leash. He was recently taught his right and left too. He walks only on the right.
- He's a good little sleeper at night, has been since we brought him home.
- He has learned what is expected of him rather quick. I'm quite impressed. Not bad for his first 6 months.

I know I'm biased but I believe he has one of the cutest little personalities. Pictures don't do him justice because not enough of his cute personality comes across in a photo. He's such a happy little dude. Walks with a springy bounce to each step.

I think it's nearly impossible to not compare him to his two predecessors. Actually this morning we had a short conversation about who Landon reminds us of more, Cody or Simon? The answer is...both. There are hints here and there of Cody and Simon in this little dude. The comparisons are short and sweet though...he is Landon. He's got his own style going on!

Happy Or Not?

Anyone else upset over yesterday's games? The Saints got robbed! Integrity of the NFL needs to seriously be put into question. I have to admit I couldn't take it. I had to get up and leave the room. I didn't want to act a fool in front of company so I removed myself for awhile. Yes, I missed all of the overtime.

The Cowboys game the week prior had some very questionable calls made by the refs. Then yesterday's blatant miss of a call that majorly affected outcome...hmm, makes me think some bad thoughts. Seems like there's a big time preference concerning L.A. Hate to say that, but it's true. Integrity of NFL is under scrutiny in my brain.

And as a former Zonie it burns me. I know no one in my living room here in Texas understood my TRUE issue with that Rams game yesterday. Growing up in AZ, man oh man, it seemed AZ was never as good as CA. I had a childhood of watching the Lakers be far superior to the Suns. USC superior to ASU. Beyond sports all the numerous attractions and tourism that lowly AZ couldn't begin to compete with. I have a hard time liking L.A. for such reasons. They always seem to get treated so nicely, don't they? They are like the favorite child of a parent!

So who the heck am I going to root for in this Super Bowl in 2 weeks? Oh geez, I don't like either team. It really is the worse possible match-up in my opinion. Hollywood vs. Golden boy! Excuse me while I gag!

Quick Snap Sunday

Landon says, "Oh mom, it's Sunday...Can't I sleep in? It's mighty cold outside, in fact it's cold outside these covers. Someone keeps our house temp like an igloo. And I might turn into a penguin soon!" Well Landon if you turn into a penguin I will love you just as much.

Piper woke Landon and myself up VERY early. She was rummaging through the toy box and found some interesting stuff. Needless to say Landon overheard her messing with toys making him eager to get out of confinement and start playing too. Brad slept through all the before the crack of dawn commotion. LOL! The pic above was taken after the super early playtime commotion and the 2 hour return to bed. You have to look close, he's just barely peeking with his left eye.

Landon Graduates...Again!

The rumors are true I graduated today...this time from Intermediate school. I was top of my class. No, seriously I really was top of my class.

Towards the end of graduation today my teacher pulled my mom aside and told her I was an excellent candidate to be a therapy dog. I'm up for it if my mommy and daddy want to pursue that route with little me. I'm not trying to toot my own horn but I do have some great qualities. I'm super cuddly, smart, very attentive, patient, and I take commands well. Plus I know a lot of commands.

At the halfway point of my intermediate school term it was recommended I start learning some sign language because I needed more of a challenge in school. Now all my commands also have signs I have to recognize. Mommy had to learn all the signs and symbols too. Oh and it was hard at times because mommy wasn't allowed to verbally communicate with me. She could only use the sign language for my command.

I have learned a lot and feel like I am a rather accomplished little dude and I'm not quite 6 months old yet. Yay me!

A Hubs Story

Oh mercy...men! Men! Everyone that reads this blog or knows us knows Brad is quite into tennis. He plays on a team and goes to team practice every Thursday night. Last night while at practice the guys decided to make things a little interesting. They decided to bet each other the shirts off their backs. Yep, if you won you got the prize of taking home the other person's dirty smelly sweaty shirt. What a prize...What a prize!

So at midnight last night Brad walks in with a big smile on his face holding up and might I add holding it way too close to my face the dirty smelly sweaty shirt that used to belong to a tennis teammate. Unfortunately I was not as pleased about this bet or the win. I faked my happiness. No, I'm not going to lie I didn't fake my happiness. I questioned right to my husband's face...why men are so weird?

Let me put this into perspective...girl terms...I would never go to a gym with a friend and bet that friend that I could soul cycle faster than her and if I accomplished it then I would win her sports bra...OH HECK NO! NEVER! See what I'm saying, men are weird!

Now in case you don't know me or you don't know me well let me inform you...I'm kind of a germaphobe. I'm much better than I used to be, but still a bit of a germaphobe. I was not too excited about having to put this "prize" t-shirt in the laundry today. Judge me if you want but I was super careful placing it in the washer earlier. I actually used another one of Brad's shirts as a glove then picked up the dirty smelly sweaty "prize" shirt with my thumb and index finger holding it out away from myself and then carefully placing it in the washer. I was also careful to not let it brush against my wrist or forearm. And somewhere in Phoenix as my mom reads this she is starting to laugh as she pictures her germaphobe daughter placing this dirty smelly sweaty shirt in the laundry.

I can handle my husband's dirty clothes just fine. I mean dirty and still moist from sweat I'm not a fan of but I deal with it. However, I clearly know my husband so it doesn't gross me out as much as a dirty smelly sweaty shirt of someone I don't even know. Fingers-crossed betting the shirts off their backs at tennis practice does not become a common thing!

The Act of Dominance

There I was in the master bathroom getting ready for bed when I suddenly heard a whiny bark. Clearly it was Landon making such a noise. I knew Brad was closer to the scene of the commotion so I assumed he'd tend to matters. The whiny bark continued. Next thing I hear is Brad reprimanding Piper while telling her to "move". After a few moments pass by and she disregards her human dad's command Brad in a louder manner tells her to "move". His tone was quickly changing. Noticing the tone of his voice, I decided to go investigate as well. Only to try to assist!

By the time I arrived to the kitchen area where all this commotion was going down Brad was standing there with Piper slung over his left forearm and his face revealing nothing but complete annoyance. As soon as he spots me he says, "She would not MOVE. I had to physically grab her and move her." I then asked exactly what happened to cause the commotion in the first place. He told me Piper was standing in front of Landon's food bowl blocking him from eating. She wasn't actually eating his food but had her entire head directly over his bowl in an effort to keep him from his bowl. Landon was bouncing from side to side with a whiny bark...likely telling her to "move" in his own language.

That right there folks, is the act of dominance. Piper being ornery! Piper letting the little bro know she is bigger and badder than he is! Based on her actions I can not disagree!

Quick Snap Sunday

The look your cat gives you when you inform her the Patriots won again and will move on to the next round of NFL playoffs. Boo! Hiss! Even Piper is ticked off!

All home teams won this weekend. The first game on Saturday and then on Sunday were BORING. Blowouts that made me question whether or not the games were fixed?

Raise your hand if you had to deal with an upset husband this weekend? The Cowboys loss was not taken well by Brad. He was so irritated! Mad at the world irritated. His irritation carried over to today. Thankfully though the games wrapped up a little earlier today then yesterday so we can change focus tonight and watch a movie. Yay!

Weather and Football

Oops time got away from me. Should have made a post a few days ago. I was a little under the weather early in the week, which I mostly blame on the shifts in the weather! We had some nasty rain that lasted ALL day yesterday. Seriously has it been raining here more than usual? I know 2018 was the 2nd highest year for rainfall but I'm thinking maybe 2019 is wanting to see if it can get into the record books for rainfall too. Anyway, I know we are only halfway through January but I'm already pretty much done with winter. Those cold winds can leave anytime, no need to stay for the rest of Winter! Yes, we have my most dreaded month of the year coming...February! Weather-wise February is my least favorite.

Why? I think it's the Zonie effect. What is the Zonie effect? The Zonie effect is when you grow up in the AZ desertness(not a word, but a word for the purpose of this blog) and the month of February is like the transition month. It's not getting dark as early in the evenings. There's mild temps mixed in with maybe a few "leftover" January like days. But basically as February progresses the weather in Phoenix gets better and better giving plenty of hints that Springtime is right around the corner.

In the DFW areas the month of March is the transition month. As March marches on, the weather gives us more and more hints of Spring. But always mixed in with a few cold days leftover from winter.

So basically it's a 4-6 week jumpstart. In the Fall we(DFW) are transitioning from Summer to Fall about 4-6 weeks sooner than Phoenix. As summertime temps try to extend it's stay far into Fall in the AZ....am I right? However, in the late Winter, it's Phoenix that has the big time weather edge as Phoenix is transitioning to Spring about 4-6 weeks before we are in DFW.

Overall I shouldn't complain too much this Winter, it has been decent with some super cold days mixed in. Best part about a DFW winter, the super cold that brings freezing rain or maybe even a little snow never sticks around very long. It goes from super cold to just regular average Wintertime cold. I believe I did spot a few super cold days arriving to town late this coming week.

But first things first...it's a big football weekend! I have to stop blogging soon and go get things done in the kitchen. My crock pot will be my best friend today! I'll get home with Landon from school just in time for the first game. He's currently relaxing with me in the big chair as I type this, he just got a bath. Gotta smell decent when one is at school! Are you digging that attempt at me giving him a mohawk? Look how long his hair is! The little dude is mostly hair! Momma's luvbug fluffball! He'll be getting trimmed up this coming week...I penciled him to my appointment book. LOL!

Quick Snap Sunday

For days now this is how our mantle has looked since removing Christmas decorations. It looks a little bare. Furthermore there's one item up there that wasn't previously featured on the mantle. The candle "lamp" has temporarily been placed there until I can remember what else goes on the mantle. Yep, that's the issue...my memory. I got my memory from my mom(sorry mom, but it's true). I can't remember what all was on our mantle before Fall arrived. It's been since September 21 that the mantle has featured non seasonal décor.

We did have a clock on the mantle which was recently killed in a very unfortunate accident. He was very unfairly pushed off the shelf by the Blu-ray and then fell to his death scaring the entire community within the house. He could not be saved. Soon I hope to be able to remember what else was featured on our mantle. What a dork I am....but you know what? Brad can't remember either. So we're both dorks!

Garfielda

Oh my, oh my what am I going to do? A problem I'm totally confused on how to solve? Since choosing to be a pet parent to 2 pugs. I've been very careful with food amounts and quality...of course!  It is unlike me to have an overweight pet. I think if a cat or dog is a pound or two overweight it can be chalked up to that individual pet's frame/bone structure. But I'm thinking in the last 3 months since Landon stepped into our world Piper is more than 1 to 2 pounds overweight.

She LOVES eating the puppy food. Landon's food needs to be accessible to him. He's an all day snacker. He doesn't eat at set meal times. Piper is quickly becoming the female version of Garfield...she's Garfielda!

No, she is not still hungry after eating her own food. That's not the issue! She was fed the proper amount B.L. (before Landon) and she's still getting the same amount. This is instead about self control when a bowl of puppy food is around all day. She can't resist. Just like some humans that can't resist eating ice cream if it happens to be in the house or all the Rolo's out of the candy dish.

I have no idea what the answer is to this "Garfielda" problem. Possibly I can hope she won't like his adult food as much as she likes his puppy food. But I doubt that will be the case. Truthfully, I think the only answer is to change his natural breed specific tendency and do set meals for him too. But I REALLY DO NOT want to do that. I very much like the free feeding for Landon. It simply makes more sense to me, plus I don't want to mess with his breed specific tendency. So I will continue to do my best to watch Piper.

Here's another thing, kind of a side note. There are numerous puppy books and puppy trainers out there still teaching pet parents the method of feeding I used with the pugs. Which is to have set meal times and not have food freely available. To teach a puppy to have set meal times you allow a puppy to eat its food for 15 minutes then pick up the bowl even if the pup hasn't finished. The puppy must then wait until the next feeding time for more food. While that sounds logical to help teach a puppy to eat at appropriate meal times. I never realized until Landon what else that method teaches a puppy. Which is...food will soon be taken away so he/she better gulp it down now while it can. Essentially as a pet parent I now believe that method I used with the pugs likely helped Simon in his efforts to become a hungry, hungry hippo with his food. So yeah that method is dead to me.

I just had a thought...perhaps I could try switching Piper over to the free feeding method? It would go horribly the first few days but then she might learn, just like Landon she has a bowl of food all day long to snack on. Sounds risky but I might try it.

Flashback Friday

Time for a Flashback Friday post. I think I missed out on doing these for most of December. Things get busy and things get extra busy in December.

This past Monday night Landon stayed up with his incredibly annoying parents. I'm sure he would say his mommie was especially annoying, making him dance with her to song after song. What can I say? He's a great little dance partner. Anyway, it seems somewhat fitting to flashback to Piper's first New Year's Eve.

Aww, look how little she is. She was about 3 months old in this pic. I believe she slept thru parts of the New Year's Eve fun. I'm not sure if she looks alert, annoyed, or sleepy in this pic? Maybe a combo of the three!
