Wedding News (part 3)

My dress arrived early!  As I drove to pick it up I was over the top excited!  I could hardly wait to see it!

I was very interested to see how the fit would be.  When you try on sample size dresses they use these large wardrobe clamps to cinch it up so that it forms to your body.  Literally being "clamped" into a dress does  make it hard to figure out what it will actually feel like when it's the right size.  It's certainly a big difference!  As I imagined!  A much better difference, I might add!

I'm such a dork!  I was standing there in awe of my dress in the fitting room with the bridal consultant.  I soon clued into the fact that I needed to get ready to step into it.  Stop gazing at it and put it on!  It's a magical feeling putting on your wedding dress.  Knowing it's the dress I'll wear to walk down the aisle to the man of my dreams!  Not just the man of my dreams but in my opinion the world's sweetest man alive!

There is some work to be done on the dress.  There's the obvious alterations that must be done.  Plus there's a few changes I'm going to have made to it.  The changes will make it even more special and unique, not another one out there!  Those changes are pending both moms approvals.  I certainly will collect both of our mothers opinions on the changes before they occur!  I'm pretty darn sure both will like my idea!  I suspect there will be at least 3 fittings to make sure all is right with the dress before the big day.

Wow, what a rush it is getting a wedding dress!  I'm on such a natural high!  Woo-hoo, the dress of my dreams to marry the man of dreams!

Riding Shotgun!

As I've mentioned before I have a pet gate that prevents the boys from jumping over the backseat and coming up front.  Believe me if they could ride shotgun every time we went anywhere they would.  If Cody could ride on my lap believe me he would.  When the boys have been permitted to ride shotgun the number one problem is Cody attempting to crowd me.  The other issue is Simon sitting on the middle console so he can see out. Balancing his little tushy ever so gently with each turn!  Moments of them riding shotgun however have been few and far between.

We currently have the pet gate down in my SUV because we were moving some furniture between our 2 apartments.  We have yet to put the pet gate back up.  I never think about the fact that the pet gate is down until it's time to put the boys in there.  Luckily they've been staying in the cargo area and not attempting to come over the backseat to get up front.

But when pet gates are down it is an open invitation for someone to break free from the cargo section.  It was just mommie and Boo-Boo(aka Simon).  After putting him in the cargo area I then got in the car, I don't believe had fastened my seatbelt before I hear Boo-Boo making his way up over the backseat.  He was not about to sit in the cargo area without his best friend and big brother!  When he arrived in the front seat the look on his face was...'you were kidding right?  You didn't mean to put me back there when it's just us, right?'....I looked at his innocent little face and said, "Oh Boo-Boo what am I going to do with you?".  No I didn't put him back in the cargo area.  I let him ride shotgun the whole way.  I know he loved it!  And I'm sure in his own doggie language he bragged about it once he got home to his big brother.

Funny how he's content to sit in the cargo area with his big brother but not when it's just mommie and Sime!
That right there is the biggest difference in the two pugs.  If you give Simon an inch he takes a mile!  Cody on the other hand would never in a million years break the rules of the car unless completely terrified(which happened once) or given the right.  Simon, my little mischievous daredevil!

Various Thoughts!

Well my computer is still having issues.  I might have to call the Geek Squad.  Although I haven't had any issues in the last couple of hours.  So I remain optimistic!  I would like a new computer at some point soon.  But not in a rush.

We had a nice relaxing weekend!  We accomplished very little but that was exactly the goal.  Focus was on relaxation!  Sometimes our weekends are a little bit busy or even a lot busy.  Nice to simply slow down once in awhile.

We have this new thing we do...we each choose 2 or 3 movies, we write the titles down on paper then draw one out of a coffee mug.  It's all up to chance as to what we watch for the evening.  Now we don't do this every time, only sometimes.  Last night's big winner, if you can call it that, was Death Race.  We attempted to watch it at least.  I'd never heard of it until we stumbled across it at Best Buy one day on discount.  Maybe the fact that it was on discount should have told us something!  We watched exactly half of Death Race before deciding we needed a more uplifting thing to do.  It's kind of like watching a high speed car chase in a prison yard.  The drivers are all prisoners fighting to keep their car in the race....essentially fighting to the death. Weird concept!

So it's just a few days until the London Olympics begin!  I'm excited!  I love watching the Olympics!  I'll completely be focused in!  They have so much of it now on sister networks that it's impossible to watch all of it.  Most likely the stuff I'm most interested in will be on the local NBC feed.  I'm curious about the time difference.  Here in Texas we're only 6 hours behind London. It's not like last time when the Olympics were in Beijing and we were at least a half day or more behind China.  I'm thinking for us some live coverage should begin around 7 in the morning, just as it does when Wimbledon is going.

Downsizing Thanks to Cody!

Cody is nearly perfect!  He really is!  Such a good dog from the beginning.  But he has a bad habit.  A habit that has been around since his tiny puppy days.  Oh his puppy days!  He was so cute!  His little tummy that drug the floor.  I'm serious he had the fattest little tummy yet he wasn't fat!  Man, he was a cute somewhat round thing!

Yes, Sime...you were a cutie as well! That cute innocent face hiding all your mischievous nature! (Just in case Simon begins to read soon! Lol!)

Anyway, getting back to the point!  Cody's bad habit is roughing something up at the start of a new day.  He's so excited to get up in the morning, he is bursting with energy.  He quickly looks to rough something up.  He's caused minor damage to their blankets or sweaters in the winter.  Nothing majorly irritating to me as I know he doesn't mean to do what he ends up doing.  However, lately Cody has moved on to bigger and better things to rough up...his or Simon's bed, is what he focuses his burst of energy on now.  He sticks his head deep in the bed as he bites it with all of his might, then shakes his head vigorously back and forth.  A few weeks ago while doing this he tore Simon's bed.  After Cody got done and I was on the scene Simon's bed had stuffing falling out from quite a few places.  Now we're onto another bed.  I didn't replace Simon's bed I've been simply moving another bed from a different room into the hallway for Simon at bedtime.  Well, yesterday morning Cody tore that bed!  He got in big trouble.  This morning he was verbally reminded not to touch either bed.  Hopefully I can break him of this new bad habit.  I just have to distract him from a pet bed and get him focused back on roughing up a toy every morning.

The boys have so many beds.  Seriously!  It's kind of ridiculous.  But thanks to Cody the amount of beds is quickly being downsized!

Is it a Scam?....

Woe is me!  My computer is having major issues.  Well it was working fine until all of a sudden some HP system installed on my computer wanted me to update my security.

I've known for quite some time that one of my security programs expired.  Every once in awhile a little zombie looking creature walks across my screen telling me to update to prevent a zombie attack.  My response is certainly not one of action!  I just think those things are such a money pit.

So today it knocked me off-line telling me that there were numerous high risks to my computer and showing me that I needed to click the "activate now" security button.  I was annoyed.  I wanted to continue working at my computer not messing with a stupid security issue.  I couldn't bypass it.  It kept knocking me off-line every few minutes.  So I finally took the bait.  I clicked the "activate now" button.  You know what popped up next?  A window for me to enter my credit card information to buy this so-called "lifetime" protection for the lovely price of $79.99.  NO WAY!  Now please tell me that's not a scam!  I closed out the window.  Another window popped up immediately telling me my computer was about to be hacked so please click the "activate now" button again.  I instead went to my computer's control panel and figured out how to disable the irritating security message.  I'm convinced those things are a scam.  Their purpose is to frighten people into paying the nearly 80 bucks.

I actually don't understand how my computer itself could be hacked.  I do buy and pay bills online.  I never let them keep my info on file just in case their files are ever hacked.  I don't store any of my bank account info on my computer like some people do.  Now if companies I pay bills to get hacked then I'm in trouble, along with thousands of other people.

All I know is that what I dealt with today on this computer with that security issue seemed like a scam.  So hopefully I am right! Hopefully I made the right decision to close it out and re-work my security settings to prevent it from popping up further.  Another thing that gets me is that I can go to Target or Best Buy and get security protection for $20.  Why would anyone buy it online for the $79.99 price.  Oh and that price was the cheapest option listed!  And they had the original price of $129.99 marked out.  As if to advertise the $79.99 price to be a huge deal!  Yeah, such a scam!

Wedding News(part 2): The Story of My Dress!

I knew Friday the 13th would be my lucky day to find my dress.  We got an early start as our appointment at a bridal boutique was the first one of the day.  The previous night I had perused this particular bridal boutique's web site writing down style numbers of dresses I was most interested in.

When we arrived it felt like a REAL bridal boutique.  Trust me some of them feel like a regular department store not a specialty boutique.  It was perfectly decorated in all things most girls like!  Hot pink, polka dots, and cute circle textured patterns on the chairs.  Charming for sure!

While the bridal consultant assigned to me looked for the dresses I had written down she told us to cruise around the store and grab any additional dresses I liked.  We looked at all racks in the different areas of the boutique.  As I rounded the corner of a long row of dresses that were hanging my eye was drawn to a dress that was currently on a mannequin.  When the bridal consultant came back by I asked if I could try the dress on the mannequin.  She was quick to grant my wish.  It was a dress like no other I had seen.  And I've done my share of looking!  I've spent many evenings looking online at numerous dresses.  Plus I did have one other time out looking and trying on.  So this dress was definitely eye catching to me and certainly worth a try.

When I got into the fitting room.  I was asked by the bridal consultant which dress I wanted to try first.  I was quick to choose the dress from the mannequin.  It was an amazing feeling as I was helped into that dress.  As I came out to walk the "runway" my soon to be mother-in-law began to cry.  As for me I was beaming while I proclaimed my love for the dress.  I did try on more dresses after that one.  But to no avail as the 1st dress was an unbelievable front-runner.

We soon left the store to go to another bridal store just to see what they had to offer.  The 2nd store of the day was just that...a store not a cute boutique.  Not the same feeling at all!  Both of us walked around aimlessly as we could not get the image of the very 1st dress out of our minds.  I tried on quite a few dresses but nothing gave me the same feeling as the dress from the mannequin.  We decided to go to lunch and chat about things.  I told my soon to be mother-in-law that the 1st dress of the day at the cute boutique was "the dress".  I no longer had the desire to continue looking. Nothing was going to compare!

After lunch we canceled an appointment we had at a 3rd store and went back to the cute boutique.  My soon to be mother-in-law started to tear up again when the bridal consultant carried "the dress" into the room for me to try again. I am very happy to say my wedding dress is now on order!

Panicked Moments as a Pug Mommie!

A few days ago I had some pretty panicked moments as a pug mommie.  It started off like any other day.  Got the boys up.  Got ready to feed them.  It was the day of the month where they needed their flea/tick/heartworm med dropped into their bowls.  Their combo med is prescribed by the vet and I buy it at the vet office.  It's rather powerful stuff it has to be given with their meal.

I dropped the med in their bowls.  They both began to gobble up their food fast.  I soon noticed the packaging of the medicine box looked different.  I started examining the new pictures on the box.  As I'm examining the box I read that the med is for 40 lb dogs.  What the freak?  Neither of my boys is even 20 lbs.  The vet gave me the wrong size pill for my little guys.  I look down at both boys and their empty bowls.  It was way too late, that med was already in each pug.  Fearing I had just overdosed my pugs I quickly dialed the vet office.  As I waited for the vet clinic to answer I had visions of two pugs needing their stomachs pumped or worse yet each of them croking in the near future.  Oh geez!

As it turned out the vet said the pugs would be fine, he said they'd be super sleepy for 48 to 72 hours.  That they were!  As they were busy sleepy it off I kept checking each boy periodically to make sure they were still breathing.  Even though the vet said they'd be fine I was still worried for quite awhile.  I had two overdosed and extremely drowsy pugs.  When I told my fiancé the story later that night.  He was relieved to find out there was at least an explanation for their super laziness.  He's very used to them greeting him and being excited to see him and the other night they could careless.  Their only interest was in counting sheep!  They were totally out of it for quite awhile, took at least 48 hours to get normal Cody and Simon back.  Whew!  Glad we got thru that!  I seriously hit the panic button for a bit.

Wedding news (part 1)

This is of course a big time for us right now.  An extra special 5 months for us as we plan our wedding.  So either weekly or bi-weekly I will have a "Wedding News" post.

Without further delay here is part 1:
My goal for this month is to have my bridal dress chosen.  I will be visiting at least 3 bridal shops later this week.  I have a dress picked out that I truly hope is "the one". Fingers-crossed!  However, for each store we have planned to go to I've set down and made a list of dresses I want to try.  So surely by the end of the week and 3 bridal stores later I should have a dress chosen or at least narrowed down.  My biggest concern is my height.  I'm so short, I don't want to get lost in the dress!  Oh if only I was 5'10" and gorgeous...then all dresses would look amazing on me!  LOL!

We've chosen our wedding colors and our wedding invitation.  Or at least I think we've chosen the wedding invitation.  I ordered a sample of the invitation the other night and it is currently being shipped to me.  As long as it looks as good as it does online that invitation will be the one we go with.  I'm not quite ready to reveal the wedding colors on my blog.  I think I might let the wedding invitation do that for me when the time comes!  As of right now only the parents are allowed to inquire about the wedding colors.

Thunderstorm

Now I have spoken many times about how crazy the weather in Texas is.  Just last night we had a short booming thunderstorm go over the city.  It wasn't only Cody that came unglued at the loud claps of thunder.  At the Texas Rangers game last night players went scurrying for cover when the thunderous booms hit.  Below is a link to a video complete with booming thunder and players reactions.  The video was featured on yahoo earlier today. I'll bet some people thought it was a bomb going off it was so loud!  Texas sure can have some seriously loud thunderstorms.

Weekend in Review!

Well it's been a great weekend.  The party yesterday for my fiancé was a great success.  We all had lots of fun!  I got everything done I wanted to get done in good timing.  Before my fiancé came along I didn't have much experience entertaining groups of people.  The last few occasions though I truly feel as though it's old hat!  Very comfortable in the role of hostess!

I made a chocolate cake for my chocoholic fiancé and as an added surprise I made my own special concoction for a filling. It was a cookies and cream inspired filling.  It turned out really well.  I went online to look at other recipes of cookies and cream fillings but they all didn't match up with my thoughts in my head.

And by all accounts it appears my gifts for my fiancé were a big success.  As I sit here typing this post he is playing his new Xbox360 with the driving wheel I got him.  As I glance over at him can't help but notice how cute he is!

Plans for tonight are rather low-key.  Kick back and relax eating pizza and watching a Blockbuster movie.  Oh and we'll of course indulge in leftover cake later too!

Happy 4th of July!!!

Hope all of you are having a wonderful 4th!  We are hosting my fiance's brother and sister-in-law this evening for dinner then going out to see fireworks.  I've got some barbecued ribs and barbecued chicken I've been working on for the last couple hours.  I also baked a pie.  Oh and guess what?  I'm going to attempt mac and cheese from scratch again.

I don't know what it is with me but I have a huge issue trying to make mac and cheese from scratch.  Now a friend of mine would simply say to that, "why would you even try?".  Well because I like to make as much of my food from scratch as possible.  It's better that way in my opinion at least!  So once again fingers-crossed my mac and cheese turns out this time.

We will be going to see fireworks in front of the convention center just as we did last year.  They have a beautiful display and you can get really close to the fireworks as well.  There's a lake running through the area so the fireworks going up over the lake.  It's really a rather picturesque place for Fourth of July.

Have a great 4th everybody!  And to my uncle Robert....Happy Birthday a little early!

The Week So Far!

Well it's only Wednesday and the week for me has been busy!  On Monday I had my first experience of trying on wedding dresses.  Woo-hoo!  I didn't end up buying.  It was nice to go look.  I didn't like the shop we went to but it was at least good to get an idea as to what the current trends are.  Not to mention I have a better idea as to what might look good on me.

Later this week it's my fiance's birthday so yesterday I finished up shopping for his gifts.  I still have to wrap them.  I have cleverly hid them around my place until they are wrapped.  I'll be doing a ton of things tomorrow to prepare for his bday party I'm hosting for him on Saturday.  I sure hope he likes what I got him.  I'm a little uneasy about his gifts a few of them are wild card picks.  I think he's most looking forward to the party.  I am too!  It's fun getting together with all his family to celebrate.

For his cake I'm using a new cake recipe and a new frosting recipe. Both will be chocolate but two different kinds of chocolate.  A dark chocolate cake with a milk chocolate frosting.  The best part will be the filling.  I can't say what my plan is for the filling just in case he reads this before his party.  Believe me it's been a filling flavor idea I've had in the back of my mind for awhile now.  Fingers-crossed it all turns out well!  And is yummy!  I think I also might make a pie too.  Because I know of a couple people in his family that aren't as into the major chocolate overload that he has requested for his cake.
