Now I wouldn't say I pride myself on doing things the exact opposite of my mom. I'm not the type of kid that thinks mom knows nothing and I know best. I really don't think I ever was that way not even during my teen years.
When my mom was here this past September. She told me it works best to not put a tomato and certain other veggies in a plastic bag before putting them in the fridge. For months now I've ignored this piece of advice. I ignore the piece of advice each time I put away a tomato or a bell pepper. Basically her words roll through my head almost on a daily basis concerning this advice! Well I recently decided to take the advice, try putting the tomato in with no baggie as it's protection from the element s within my fridge. The result was that it dried out on the side where it had been cut. Next up to try was a bell pepper. The bell pepper fared worse! He dried out on the edge that had been cut but he also has begun to shrivel up. The bell pepper is quite the interesting sight right now! So what I've learned?...that particular piece of kitchen advice from my mom is not going to work for me. However, the reason that might not work here in big D could be due to the overall climate difference.
One way in the kitchen that I do copy my mom is with my sloppy joes. Or should I say her sloppy joes! I have tried making sloppy joes a few ways. One night I used real peppers and had my fingers burning so bad I was uncomfortable. Certain types of peppers when you cut them open will cause your skin to burn if you aren't careful on how you handle them. Anyway, after attempting different recipes that didn't remind me of the type of sloppy joes my mom made when I was a kid, I decided mom had the best recipe. There's no such thing as improving her way of doing sloppy joes!

The Movie Hop, baking, and basketball!
We had a good weekend. The movie Hop that we rented was alright. If I had a kid it would be a sure family favorite at Easter time. And if I was a teacher it would be a great classroom-friendly movie for youngsters. However, for adults it wasn't as easy to watch as some other animated flicks have been for us. Way too far-fetched! We also came away with too many thoughts on how it could have been better. Our brains do not normally start analyzing how a movie could be improved immediately after watching it!
I did some baking this past weekend. I woke up with a recipe in my head one day last week. This happens to me from time to time! Anyway I decided to try out the recipe. I made a half recipe of chocolate chip cookies with the mini morsels and a half of a brownie recipe. I then poured the brownie recipe into a baking dish and spooned the cookie recipe on top as evenly as I could. All I have to say is that I thought my boyfriend would be taking some of these cookie-brownies to work with him this week...but there's none left!
Enough with the college basketball! I'm not into it this year. Which I've already mentioned. I don't mind that the weekends are filled with the men's college basketball. But when the men aren't playing I feel as though they are cramming the women's basketball down our throats. The women play at odd times, so as not to interfere with the men's schedule. I guess in the past I've never noticed how much coverage the women get. Maybe this is a year where the women are getting more coverage than usual. Either way it's getting to be enough for me! Overkill! Ready for ESPN and other sports networks to turn it's attention to something else. Last night the womens' bball was over for the evening, immediately following it was a high school basketball skills competition. Really ESPN? Is basketball really so popular that you have to run high school skills comps during primetime? I would love to know how many viewers they raked in on Monday night! Everyone knows Monday night has fierce rating battles as does Thursday night.

Recipe Time!...Cake Recipe for Dogs!
I was asked for the recipe that I use for making cakes for the boys. As promised here is the recipe! Now I, of course have two lively and incredibly cute boys, I have to sneak in a cute remark as often as possible concerning my little men;)! So if you have only 1 dog you might want to half the recipe and use an 8x8 inch pan. That's still going to be a sufficient enough cake for 1 dog!
I have a few recipes for dog cakes and frosting. This is the one that I find the easiest to make. It doesn't use too many special ingredients. I've usually got most ingredients on hand. When I made Simon's cake 2 weeks ago I only had to go to the store for cream cheese! I like not having to get a bunch of items just for a dog cake!
Banana Peanut Dog Birthday Cake(full recipe)
2/3 cup of mashed ripe bananas
1/2 cup melted margarine
3 large eggs
3/4 cup water
2 cups white flour or wheat flour
2 tsp of baking powder
1 tsp of baking soda
2 tsp of cinnamon
1/2 cup of chopped peanuts
Directions:
Preheat over to 350-degrees
In a mixing bowl, beat together mashed bananas and butter until creamy. Add eggs and water then beat well. Stir in the combined dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Stir in nuts. Spoon batter evenly into buttered and floured baking dish. Bake for about 35 minutes. Let cool completely.
side note: I use an 11x7 glass baking dish. After the cake has cooled I frost it in the baking dish and store it in the baking dish until the boys have had a few pieces then I transfer it to an airtight container.
Banana Peanut Dog Birthday Cake (half recipe)
1/3 cup of mashed ripe bananas
1/4 cup of margarine
2 medium eggs(make sure you use medium not large)
3/8 cup of water(use a 1/2 cup but don't fill it up all the way if you don't have a 3/8 cup)
1 cup of white flour or wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp of cinnamon
1/4 cup of chopped peanuts
Directions are the same as I explained above! However, you will have to watch it close concerning baking time. I would think it would need to be baked for around 25 minutes. But I'm not completely sure. Watch it close and keep some toothpicks nearby.
Cinnamon Frosting (full recipe)
12 oz. of nonfat cream cheese(room temperature)
3 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. honey
Directions: Combine all ingredients until smooth. Waiting for cream cheese to be room temperature is the longest part. So take it out before you even start on the cake!
Cinnamon Frosting (half recipe)
6 oz. of nonfat cream cheese(room temperature)
1 and a 1/2 tsps. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. honey
Now remember who will be eating this! A dog! No pressure to do it completely perfect! Cody and Simon have never once uttered a complaint!

The Week in Review!
This was a very rainy week for us. The rain has given way to sunshine and the weekend promises to be perfect weather! But early in the week we had the threat of hail and tornadoes. It sparked Cody to pursue options to teleport himself to Phx! LOL! Just kidding! He loves his mommie too much to go too far away! At times the wind was so strong the boys had trouble standing up. Little Simon got knocked backwards a little at one point on one of our walks. He was clearly struggling to not be blown over by the wind.
Thank goodness Peyton Manning didn't end up with a team I hate! Yes, I was disappointed he didn't choose my Cards! Then again I refused to get my hopes up too much during the process because I didn't want to be too in the dumps if he didn't go to AZ. And I certainly can't fault a person for not choosing AZ...after all I, myself, left AZ! The Broncos are my boyfriend's 2nd favorite team after the Cowboys of course. So it won't be hard for us to watch and cheer for Peyton in a Broncos uniform.
This week I had an issue with my eye. I went from Monday to Friday with no contact lens in one of my eyes. It was difficult to say the least! Reading and working at my computer were hard tasks. My eye is better now. No clue what it was. Most likely some irritation from wearing my contacts. At least I recognized it quickly and stopped wearing a lens in that eye so it could heal and not get any worse.
We rented the movie Hop for tonight's entertainment. With the exception of the movie Bridesmaids we've had decent luck with entertaining movies lately. We got too busy and never got to the theatre to see Hop when it was there last Easter season. I've been anxious to see it on video ever since I heard it's release date. I even went to Blockbuster early in the day yesterday just to make sure I got a copy before they were all gone. Back when the movie Hugo came out our Blockbuster was out of copies by 2 in the afternoon. We have the Blockbuster movie pass so it allows us to keep the movies longer than normal. Hence I went yesterday and rented Hop but we aren't watching it til tonight! The movie pass is great value if you rent enough movies that is! I love going in and exchanging one movie for a different movie and not having to pay each time! The movie pass means you pay a fee once a month, with unlimited rentals during the month.

NCAA Tourney Bracket!
Normally I'm totally into the NCAA tourney. For some reason this year I can't get interested. Not sure if it's due to lack of teams I'm personally interested in or what. Texas lost in the first round so I suppose that took away from the tourney a lot in my opinion.
All last week I kept saying I was going to fill out a bracket as I always do. Each day rolled by and no bracket got filled out. I printed a couple out but that's as far as I got. Maybe I shouldn't say this next part but I'm going to anyway. I'll risk it! One thing that has bugged me for the last 3 years is Obama doing a bracket. Each year I have to hear about his bracket. I DON'T CARE!!!! And frankly I think it's ludicrous that's he does a bracket while ESPN cameras roll and some ESPN reporter stands there making comments as Obama explains his thought process! Really? Come on, it's ridiculous in my opinion. Then the video of all this goes on the internet and I can't escape it! Then you have reporters and other analysts trying to one-up the president. It irritates me more and more as his time in office rolls by. There's issues all around...like rising gas prices...but first things first...president has to stop his day and film an ESPN segment showing the thought process of his tourney bracket with an ESPN reporter reporting on it! Geez!
For some reason the thought of Simon as president has just popped into my head. If that happened then we could have special segments with president Simon while he attempts to show the American public how to be a food hound! Or how to eat a pecan that's still in it's shell! Or best of all how to act as though you are way too cool for the rest of the world!

Crazy, Stormy Night!
Wow what a night! Storms rolled into the Dallas area late in the afternoon yesterday. It was so windy at times the pugs struggled to stand up while out on their walks. In a way it was kind of funny, in another way I felt for them as they attempted to go up against the wind.
It started pouring in the early evening. We were under tornado watch all the way until 2 am. So much loud thunder and shaking of the building that I slept very little. I think I'm going to need a nap at some point just to make it through the day. Definitely one of the wildest, stormiest nights I've been through. We've dealt with some interesting storms since moving to TX.
As it continues to rain this morning. I'm thinking last night's storm certainly ranks pretty high on my list for scary storms. The temp has dropped quite a bit as well. It's not a hot muggy rain. It's a cold rain. Not sure how long it's supposed to rain today. I'm considering doing some baking, it seems like a fitting thing to do on a day like this.

Happy Birthday Simon!
On this day 10 years ago in the city of Tempe just around the corner from Sun Devil Stadium the rambunctious runt of a litter was born. He was soon named Simon. And for nearly 10 years now I have been a very proud pug mommie to him. Yay Sime! You turn 10 today! You are my little Sun Devil born baby boy! A decade boy along with your big bro!
Without further ado, Simon can take over the post since it's his bday!...
Yep, it is I, cute and full of energy Simmie C. Peterson. I must say I may be turning 10 today but I don't feel a day over 5 okay maybe 6. I basically still do all the things I did when I was a mere pup. I'm still unopposed to getting into mischief too! I try sometimes to get my bro to get into whatever I'm getting into but he just stares at me in disapproval...he's such a goodie-goodie!
So what have I been up to? I dealt with the return of winter late last week. The darnedest thing, I woke up one day and the temp was drastically colder plus there was this liquid stuff falling from above making me wet. I think it's called rain. Yesterday I went to the groomers. Mommie told them today would be my birthday so they gave me the spa treatments. Cody got the regular treatment while I got the royal treatment...I mean the spa treatment. I guess I liked it although I came home smelling like mint chocolate chip ice cream. And my groomer even gave mommie a free sample of the minty scent. Yep just what I need, the smell of mint chocolate chip ice cream on my fur when I can't even eat that stuff. So I'm still unsure who got the better deal yesterday. Me or Cody? Perhaps just having to deal with the usual grooming is more my speed instead of the extra spa stuff. That spa stuff takes a long time too. Cody was back napping while I was still being pampered. You know me I like napping! Man I was tired when I got home. It's not easy being pampered, people.
Today I will enjoy my BIG birthday cake. I saw mommie making my cake last night. She let me sample the frosting. Mmmm, it was tasty! She made me a banana peanut cake with orange frosting! Yay for me! And thanks mommie! As for gifts I'm assuming a have an Easter toy coming. We get Christmas toys for Cody's bday and Easter toys for mine. Yes, I have this memorized. I should it's been 10 years of this system! More importantly to me is the treats I'll get. I know there's treats wrapped up for me. I'm sure of it! Well, I gotta go I'm a busy boy, got things to do!

The Movie Experience of "Bridesmaids"!
I don't focus to much on doing a "movie review" per say on my blog. I might mention from time to time movies we've seen. Movies worth seeing and movies to forget about. But a full movie review is not my thing. However, I'm going to make an exception this time.
Here is my take on the movie "Bridesmaids". Let me just first say I had no desire to see this movie when it came to theaters back in September. My mom wanted to see it when she was here for a visit at that time. She wanted to see it because of a certain actress she likes that is in the movie. I could tell from previews it certainly appeared the movie was much raunchier than I would ever want to view. Well skip ahead to March, after a few people have told us it's worthwhile to see and a few people have talked positively about it on TV in recent weeks we decided to rent it.
Oh my gosh!!!!!!! The very first scene made me so unbelievably comfortable I wanted to run and hide. I was appalled to say the least! It didn't get much better! When engagement party takes place the movie goes from appalling to ridiculously ANNOYING! My boyfriend actually got up and went over to the dining area where his computer is. At that point I hit the "stop" button on the blu-ray. We discussed whether we should continue it. We decided to fast-forward a little and then give it a few more minutes to get better. My boyfriend thought it was best for him though to continue sitting at the computer while watching it that way he didn't have to be fully zoned in on the movie....good idea!
Well we made it through the movie. I will admit I had to hit fast-forward a couple more times because I couldn't take the raunchiness! I'm not sure I would ever recommend the movie to anyone. I would have to know for sure that the person I recommend the movie to is into raunchy humor.
The storyline definitely was different than what the two of us thought it would be about. It is called "bridesmaids" so it makes sense it's focus is on the bridesmaids. The focus is on the perfect life of one bridesmaid and the spinning out of control life of the other bridesmaid. The actual bride in the movie doesn't take center stage at all. The other issue with the bridesmaids is that they are trying hard to out do each other. Upstaging one another to prove that they are better friends with the bride. It's crazy! It was one ridiculous film. I will also say without Melissa McCarthy's humor in the movie, it would have been intolerable!!! She was raunchy and painful to watch at times but overall she brought much needed humor to certain situations.
I would give it a D. Possibly if the first 20 minutes of the movie had not been there I could see giving it a much higher rating like a B-. The fact that we had to endure that painful 20 minutes of the movie knocks it's grade way down in my book. Raunchy humor is just not our thing. There have been a few movies that have come out in recent months that have that type of humor to them. If we are well aware of what we are getting into then it's a little easier to deal with. With Bridesmaids we knew about the raunchiness however, it's still so shocking in so many ways. Maybe it's such shocking humor because the cast is almost completely women. The expectation is not for women to be that disgusting! In no way could I ever picture my mom sitting through the movie! That thought is enough to make me run and hide now or at least have nightmares tonight! Yikes!!

My Grocery Shopping Story!
Monday's are typically grocery shopping days for me. Along with other chores are assigned to Monday as well. Yesterday, I went to the store in the middle of the afternoon. I try hard to get in and get out. I know the stores I frequent well so I do my best to hurry along. I came out of the store, loaded my groceries in the cargo area, got in and drove off. Now I'm big on clock management, after all I am my grandfather's granddaughter! He was a very punctual person indeed! I remember glancing at the clock when I got in my SUV, I must say I was impressed I got so much accomplished in so little time. I thought to myself how great it was that I still have plenty of the afternoon left to get other things done. I got back with the groceries. Put them away then I started on dinner. Dinner was chicken fettuccine alfredo. I wanted to try a new process of making the chicken so that meant despite it being only mid-afternoon I needed to get my chicken roasting pronto. As I'm cutting up the chicken into chunks I once again glance at the clock on the stove. I couldn't believe it was suddenly so much later. What happened? Not that much time could have passed since leaving the store. I then remembered.....TIME CHANGE!
I didn't change the clock in my car so it was still an hour behind. That darn time change. It seems as though every time we adjust our clocks I forget one clock and then I end up freaking myself out about what time it really is. Geesh, what a nut case I am sometimes!
As for the boys I decided instead of gradually moving their eating times and walk times to get them adjusted to the difference....I simply just changed it up. No gradual process this time around. So far so good! I feel as though they have already fully adjusted to time change. They're actually doing better with the time issue then the humans they're around! Springing forward for the boys is better than in the Fall when we go backwards. They wake up one day in the Spring and things are happening sooner for them, they don't mind. Having to wait around in the Fall an extra hour to be fed is not in them especially the littler one! When 6:15 on Sunday evening came around Simon had no objections to eating. He was a little surprised when I announced to him it was time to eat. But as I already stated he doesn't care. It's just like the saying..."call me anything you want but don't call me late for dinner". That's Sime!

Our Movie Watching Weekend!
We had a good weekend. This weekend seemed to fly by especially fast. They all go faster than I would like but this one whisked by at a higher rate than normal I think. We went to Stars Wars this past Friday night. It was good. I was a little surprised more people weren't in the theater to see it. It has been out since Valentine's day weekend so I guess we're late comers.
We also rented Hugo. We had to see Hugo after it won so many Oscars. We didn't actually tune into the entire Oscars but every time we went by the channel Hugo was winning an award. We both understood well why it won the awards it did after we saw it. Definitely worth seeing! The detailed images are quite remarkable! Especially towards the end when they are showing the film reels.
The weather here has been perfect. Today however, has been very windy. Rain is expected tomorrow and Thursday. The wind today will do it's best to knock a pug over. Just ask Cody and Simon! Their little ears have taken flight numerous times during walks.

Movie Night!
Lately we have started to make plans to go to a movie then as movie time approaches we decide not to go. This has happened the last 2 weekends for us. We're big on Blockbuster. When movies preview on TV we sometimes admit the movie looks good but not good enough to see in a theatre, it's a rental type movie. I guess to us we want to go to a movie that by all accounts seems to be good and not a dud. So if there's some doubt on whether the movie will be decent we're likely to wait on it then watch it as a Blockbuster movie night after it's done at the theatres.
Well this past Wednesday we made our way to a movie at the IMAX. If we wanted to see this particular movie it had to be seen before today because Lorax will take over at the IMAX now. We saw Journey 2. It's a movie based on a book by Jules Vern. It was entertaining enough for us! We liked it! I loved the elephants. In the movie on this mysterious island large animals are small. Whereas small animals are huge. So bumble bees are big enough to ride. And elephants were the size of a pug. It had cool images plus enough of a storyline to keep you into it.
Tonight we plan on another trip to the movies. This time to see the updated version of Star Wars. It should be interesting to see how different it is. I'm curious to see how many 3D elements have been added. I had never seen Star Wars until my boyfriend came along. It is kind of funny to me that for the last 2 maybe even 3 weekends we haven't made our way to the movies when we said we would and now this week comes and were going twice. Good for us!
