The Movie Experience of "Bridesmaids"!

I don't focus to much on doing a "movie review" per say on my blog. I might mention from time to time movies we've seen. Movies worth seeing and movies to forget about. But a full movie review is not my thing. However, I'm going to make an exception this time.

Here is my take on the movie "Bridesmaids". Let me just first say I had no desire to see this movie when it came to theaters back in September. My mom wanted to see it when she was here for a visit at that time. She wanted to see it because of a certain actress she likes that is in the movie. I could tell from previews it certainly appeared the movie was much raunchier than I would ever want to view. Well skip ahead to March, after a few people have told us it's worthwhile to see and a few people have talked positively about it on TV in recent weeks we decided to rent it.

Oh my gosh!!!!!!! The very first scene made me so unbelievably comfortable I wanted to run and hide. I was appalled to say the least! It didn't get much better! When engagement party takes place the movie goes from appalling to ridiculously ANNOYING! My boyfriend actually got up and went over to the dining area where his computer is. At that point I hit the "stop" button on the blu-ray. We discussed whether we should continue it. We decided to fast-forward a little and then give it a few more minutes to get better. My boyfriend thought it was best for him though to continue sitting at the computer while watching it that way he didn't have to be fully zoned in on the movie....good idea!

Well we made it through the movie. I will admit I had to hit fast-forward a couple more times because I couldn't take the raunchiness! I'm not sure I would ever recommend the movie to anyone. I would have to know for sure that the person I recommend the movie to is into raunchy humor.

The storyline definitely was different than what the two of us thought it would be about. It is called "bridesmaids" so it makes sense it's focus is on the bridesmaids. The focus is on the perfect life of one bridesmaid and the spinning out of control life of the other bridesmaid. The actual bride in the movie doesn't take center stage at all. The other issue with the bridesmaids is that they are trying hard to out do each other. Upstaging one another to prove that they are better friends with the bride. It's crazy! It was one ridiculous film. I will also say without Melissa McCarthy's humor in the movie, it would have been intolerable!!! She was raunchy and painful to watch at times but overall she brought much needed humor to certain situations.

I would give it a D. Possibly if the first 20 minutes of the movie had not been there I could see giving it a much higher rating like a B-. The fact that we had to endure that painful 20 minutes of the movie knocks it's grade way down in my book. Raunchy humor is just not our thing. There have been a few movies that have come out in recent months that have that type of humor to them. If we are well aware of what we are getting into then it's a little easier to deal with. With Bridesmaids we knew about the raunchiness however, it's still so shocking in so many ways. Maybe it's such shocking humor because the cast is almost completely women. The expectation is not for women to be that disgusting! In no way could I ever picture my mom sitting through the movie! That thought is enough to make me run and hide now or at least have nightmares tonight! Yikes!!
