My Mall Venture!

I went to the mall today, man was it packed. Things are still very crowded. Holiday crowds have not ceased here. I didn't go in to the mall. I actually just parked outside the store I wanted to go to. I was out in 10 to 15 minutes. I'm a quick shopper! Get in and get out!

Now if you are my boyfriend or my mom skip over this paragraph! Just go to the next one! I love going to that particular mall I went to today mainly because of the drive there. There's some great bridges leading into it, I get to speed with no fear of getting a ticket. It's my pretend race car driver moment going over the bridges. Woo-hoo!

My big purchase at the mall was a springform pan. Woo-hoo! I'm one of few people that would get excited about that purchase. I plan on making my very first cheesecake for New Year's. Hopefully, it comes out well. If not I have a back up plan for a quick dessert! Should be fun to try a cheesecake though! I'll take pics if it turns out well!

Candy Cane Rawhides!

There's a bit of a candy cane rawhide issue going on with the boys lately. Every time I give the boys a candy cane rawhide Cody growls at Simon. Then Simon goes as far away as he can get from Cody. The other day I was walking out the door and handed the boys each a candy cane. Simon dropped his, Cody growled then Simon hot-footed it to the bathroom. I wasn't going to walk out with one dog perfectly happy in his bed with a rawhide and the other in the dark bathroom. I went into Simon to realize he was perfectly content to stay in there, far away from Cody. I finally decided since I couldn't get Simon to come out of the bathroom I at least made him comfortable in there. I put a bed in there for him. He quickly laid down in the bed with his candy cane.

I wish I knew what Cody keeps saying to Simon when I give them candy canes. He says something that makes Simon get far away. Simon is even willing to go in the dark bathroom to eat his candy cane without the fear of his big bro. Man, they really are funny! The little things they do. They get along great and they always have but there's those few moments where things are rough for them. It's a bit weird though that the candy cane rawhides are making them react this way this year. I never remember this happening before. Oh well we're dealing with it!

The Alarm Clock!

One of my boyfriend's gifts from me for Christmas was a new alarm clock one that is also an ipod dock. I looked quite awhile before purchasing the one I got for him. He liked the one I chose and was anxious to set it up.
He set the clock time and the alarm time. The next day his alarm didn't go off. He figured he set the alarm time incorrect.
Later that day, I happened to be over at his place and I decided to see if I could fix the issue for him. I worked and worked on that alarm. I must have set it 4 or 5 times just to test it. I tried everything! Yes, I even read the directions. I'm typically not a direction reader! I must add the directions were very lame. Anyway, after about 20 or 25 minutes of working with this alarm I finally figured out the problem. My boyfriend set the time incorrect! I kept thinking the alarm was set incorrectly or I wasn't in the "correct" mode to work the alarm but I never once thought the time could be incorrect. I stared at the incorrect time for 20-some minutes. What a dork!...Both of us are!

Our Christmas!

I hope all had a wonderfully merry Christmas! We had a good Christmas! On Christmas Eve we hosted my boyfriend's family at his place. I was super busy this past week getting prepared for everything. Friday night I made an appetizer, a cake, a pie, some candy and cookies. Yep, definitely busy! Great fun though! I was slightly disappointed in the new cookie recipe I used but oh well. I like chewy softer cookies and these turned out crunchy.

Simon was so excited for Christmas! The boys love opening gifts. I had a hard time keeping Simon from opening gifts early. He actually did open 2 that had to re-taped. One gift was for him and the other was one of mine. I'm not sure why the temptation of opening the gifts early was so strong for him this year.

This is national take back gifts day! We do have one thing that has to go back. I got my boyfriend a coffeemaker and so did his parents. He has yet to decide which one he's keeping. I had no idea that days before Christmas when his mom asked him what he wanted for Christmas he mentioned needing a new coffeemaker. I typically have plenty of ideas on what to get him so I rarely ask for a list of things from him when a gift-giving holiday is near.

I doubt we'll worry about taking the coffeemaker back today but maybe. My big interest of the day is going to a movie. We haven't been to a movie in awhile. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to talk my boyfriend into it.

The Door!

I have a little story. This story will describe a person that has a hundred and two things on her mind at once. The other day I came home with bags of stuff in each hand. I placed my bags down near my dining table. I then went to get the boys out of their enclosed area since I was now home. Next up I realized it was time to feed the boys. And as everyone knows there is no time to waste when it comes to getting Sime-boo-boo his dinner on time!!! As the boys were eating I was unpacking my bags of stuff. After that I quickly swung into getting some items prepared in the kitchen. I remember looking over the counter into the living room and noticing that Simon gave a slightly weird glance towards the front door. I didn't think much of it though. Soon I noticed the same slightly weird glance was given in the direction of the door by Cody when he arrived in the living room. I still didn't think much of it. I continued to stay in the kitchen. I'm guessing a good 30 minutes passed by before I walked out of the kitchen and into the living room where the boys were both laying in their bed under the window. As I rounded the corner to go from my kitchen to the living room I looked over to discover the front door was standing wide open. I never closed the door behind me after coming home with both arms filled with bags. Geesh! What a dork I am!

Yes, I'm still shocked I left the front door open that long and had no clue it was open. I'm also impressed that neither dog tried to go anywhere! No making a break for it for my puggies! Neither one of them even got near the door. They simply looked over there and then went to lay down like always. I wonder what they each thought was going on with the door? Surely they both thought various things about why the door was left open. Likely one thought was that their mommie is crazy....they're nearly right on that thought! Okay, not crazy just a little preoccupied!

Christmas Party Weekend!

This weekend I made lots of stuff. My boyfriend's family Christmas party was yesterday. I had lots of fun Saturday night baking and making candy. For the occasion we took my 7-layer dip for an appetizer, a cake, and two types of candy. We had lots of fun at the get-together! For the Christmas gift exchange I came away with a cookbook and cupcake carrier. Sweet!

It was great timing for the Cowboys to play on Saturday night since we had the Christmas party to go to on Sunday. We watched very little football yesterday. I did see that the Cardinals won. So to me it was a great football weekend, Cowboys and Cards pulled off victories. The Cardinals have been doing much better lately. If anyone cares to remember I predicted they would be better towards the end of the season!

Texas Sports Weekend!

Oh my gosh! How could the Cowboys lose in the manner they lost last night? You should have heard my gasp as it happened. It was unbelievable! I knew the Giants would ice the Cowboys kicker but no one could have predicted for the kick to be blocked on the second try. It was horrible! My poor boyfriend was none to happy, it didn't bring his weekend to a good close.

In other Texas sports news, the quarterback at Baylor won the Heisman trophy. We were both very pleased to see that. I assumed Andrew Luck of Stanford had it locked up. But instead a QB of a smaller university got it. Cool! And of course I also have to mention that the Houston Texans have made it to the NFL playoffs for the first time. I can't believe how their team has responded to all the injuries they've had. They have a 3rd string QB leading their team, their best offensive player is out, as is their best defensive player. Yet with sheer grit and determination they have made it to their first playoff birth. Crazy and Sweet! True definition of teamwork!

The Mavs will open their season on Christmas day against whom? Oh that pesky Miami Heat team. I hope Miami enjoys watching the Mavs get their rings and raise the Championship banner on Xmas day! We will!

Which One of You is Guilty?

Today I had to pose the question to the boys, "which one of you did this?". Now based on what happened I was fairly certain which pug was most likely to do this particular bad task. But I still questioned them both out of fairness.

The pugs were at my boyfriend's house hanging out with Storm the cat. When the boys arrive Storm's food that normally sits on the floor always has to be raised up due to food obsessed Simon. As I was preparing to take the pugs back to our place I put Storm's food back on the floor in it's usual spot since the boys were about to leave. I needed to take one trip to the car before leashing up the boys. When I came back in Cody looked perturbed. It wasn't long before I went in the kitchen to discover Storm's food bowl had been cleaned out. I quickly turned to the pugs. Simon was standing and watching my every move. Cody was laying down near Simon. I asked the pugs, "which one of you ate Storm's food?". Both of their heads moved from side to side. I followed that question up with another one, "Come on, tell me which one of you ate the food?". Right on cue Simon gives a huge burp! It was all I could do not to laugh. I already knew it must have been him, the burp was his confession. I made myself refrain from laughing because he needed to be disciplined. That darn over-active eating thing within him! It gets him in trouble every time!

Cookies and Christmas Preparation!

The first batch of Christmas cookies is currently in the oven. I'm making my favorite Christmas cookie....snowballs. I love those delicate little powdered sugared cookies. I look forward to making them every year. My boyfriend's favorite is gingerbread! Although when it comes to Christmas cookies or cookies in general he's not picky! I think he's gotten used to not getting gingerbread cookies until Valentine's day. The last 2 Christmases I haven't had the time to dedicate to gingerbread cookies. They need to be rolled out and decorated. So the last 2 Valentine's days he's received a goodie box containing gingerbread cookies. It's kind of nice that way and extra fun to focus only on those cookies for him at that time.

Next week will be a very BIG week for me. I plan on finishing up my Christmas gift shopping. Plus I plan on doing a ton of baking. I just hope I can accomplish all I want to.

Yesterday, I went to purchase some cookie tins to fill then give away. The cashier at Target questioned why I was purchasing so many tins. She didn't question it in a rude way, she was simply curious. I think this is the first time I've ever had this complaint that I'm about to mention.....where's all the good wrapping paper? I have yet to find a good selection. I saw Justin Bieber wrapping paper, definitely not buying that! I saw way over priced and too fancy looking for wrapping paper. And then I saw some just non exciting designs. There was one design that had a cute moose with a Christmas train theme, the Christmas Express. Seemed cute enough but on second glance I noticed they changed the wording from "Christmas Express" to "Christmoose Express". I didn't like the wordplay with the word "Christmas". The word Christmas to me should never be altered! Just my opinion. I know it was just wrapping paper and a cute moose/train theme but still I didn't appreciate the wordplay. Needless to say I'm still in search of Christmas paper.

Rooster Days are Numbered...I Hope!

If I'm extra tired lately it's Simon's fault! He has awakened me way too early the last 2 mornings. The other day it was just before 4 AM when I first heard the sounds of Simon. Yep, you read that right 4 AM. He continued to do his barking routine about every 20 to 30 minutes until I got the idea to put him in the spare bathroom. I whisked him up, took one of the pet beds and put him in the bathroom then shut the door behind me. Then this morning he woke me up at about 5, I first ignored him then he started up again about 20 minutes later so I once again went out to where the boys sleep in the hall and in a fury I scooped him up and put him in the bathroom again. Not a peep out of him until I was ready to get up. Sometimes with Simon more drastic measures have to be taken for him to get the point. With Cody I can simply tell him "no" and he gets it. Simon is hardheaded and you must really let him know your feelings, he can't sense feelings as good as Cody.

The spare bathroom is super dark and it's nearly the farthest thing from my room. I'm not sure how I got the idea the other morning to put him in the dark bathroom but I did. He instantly got the message and was quiet. I am now hopeful that after a few more times of an irritated me putting him in the bathroom he will soon get the message that barking early in the morning is not appropriate unless the house is burning down or a tornado is about to hit. Otherwise I don't want to hear a peep out of the boys until I'm ready for them to be up. That's how it used to be! They slept until I got up! Cody still does, this is just Simon that started this wanting to get up with the roosters thing. Weirdest part though is he doesn't actually appear to want to get up he just barks for no apparent reason. After hearing him bark if I go out to him he makes no effort to get up out of bed. It's like he's seeing if I'll come to him!

Guess what boo-boo your early morning wanting to be a rooster days are numbered. I'm determined to break you of this habit! All I want for Christmas is my Sime to keep quiet in the early morning hours.

Happy Birthday Cody!

Me, tasting my frosting!

Oh it is I, Cody Peterson. Today is my birthday. Mommie has told me happy birthday several times and sang to me some weird birthday song she made up and soon I will get cake and presents. While my mommie uploads a new pic of me I decided to take to the computer and do my 2nd blog ever.

My biggest wish for my bday was 78 degrees and sunny. The moment I felt the blast of cold air when mommie first took us out early this morning I knew that wish wasn't going to come true.

Next up I'm hoping for a plane ticket to Florida....I want to be a beach bum! I seriously doubt there's a plane ticket amongst the gifts I have yet to open but a little guy can wish. In all seriousness I suppose a brand new toy would suit me just fine. I haven't had a new toy in awhile! Back at Halloween time but that was awhile ago. It's clearly time for a new toy.

My mommie made me a cake last night. She gave us a few nibbles of a couple of the ingredients that went into the cake. Oh and she borrowed a special pan so she could make me a bigger cake than normal. So this will be the biggest cake I've ever had. Yay for me! Only problem is I have to share with my bro. I guess he's a good kid though, he shares with me when his bday comes around. I suppose it's fair. Well y'all, Cody is out! I gotta get my party started!

Cowboys vs. Cardinals....Game of the Week!

Tomorrow the Cardinals and the Cowboys face off as they did last year. We have an extra side bet riding on this game. If the Cards win I get dinner out courtesy of my Cowboys loving boyfriend and obviously if the Cowboys win I will be treating him to dinner at his choice restaurant. I have a feeling I will most likely be the one paying for dinner in the near future.

The boys wanted to weigh in with their own thoughts on the game. Notice each boy is wearing his team's color! Cody was super patient and cooperative. I can't say the same for Si-Si. He just woke up and was not in a picture taking mood. After a couple snaps of the camera he walked off set! Lol!

I'm technically a winner either way I suppose. Although I won't be rooting for the Cowboys per say! I'll keep kind of quiet and secretly hope my Cards can hang in there. I'm all for any Texas team unless they are up against the Cards or the Sun Devils then it's a bit harder to pick a side. The best part about tomorrow will be that I actually get to see the Cardinals play. This will be the first time this season the Cards have been shown here. So I'm mostly excited just to see my team!

p.s. click on their pics to enlarge so you can read their signs!

Christmas Decorating!

Welcome to December! Cody's birthday is right around the corner. He says, "Let the countdown begin!" Next Wednesday he and his little brother will be delighted with a specially made doggie cake. He will also be delighted with a brand new Christmas toy. He will get either a penguin or a gingerbread man or both since his little bro won't care about the toy that much. Plus Cody gets a little hoggish when it comes to new bday toys!

I finally decorated for Christmas. It's only the first day of December so it's not exactly late into the season yet, I say "finally", because I planned on decorating Tuesday night but I chose to do other stuff and the decorating got pushed back to today. I put up window cling decorations every year. I had a terrible time this year with getting them to stay on the windows. One of the best windows in our place for decorations has the boys living room bed directly under it. Good thing Cody wasn't laying near there when the window decorations began to fall. If you know Cody you know he's rather skittish. Doesn't take much to scare the little guy. The decorations started to fall down around Simon, it was kind of funny how quick he was to jump up to sniff each decoration. Cody stood in the background watching all this and barking. He's helpful! Lol!

Here's the most interesting part of my decorating this year. I came across a box that I'm sure I've seen before but I suppose I've never taken the time to open it. Can't believe I haven't opened it before. It was clear the box was straight from the manufacturer and never been opened. Inside the box was a ceramic snowman holding a tree with cardinals around him. He's sensational! What a great find! I do remember buying that snowman years ago. It had to have been at least 3 or 4 years ago that I bought it because I remember I still lived in Phx and this Christmas will be my 3rd Christmas in Dallas so at the very minimum it's a snowman that's been waiting to see the light of day for at least 3-4 years. Like I said before, great find!

Simon's Transformation!

Is Simon a pug? A pig? He does make some oinking noises from time to time when looking hard for something to eat. And long ago I established he's got some rottweiler tendencies. He's a good protector when he needs to be. Lately I've been thinking he's transforming into a rooster. For the last 6 or 7 months he wakes up at the crack of dawn giving off a few muffled yet sleep disturbing barks. Here's the somewhat funny part....he doesn't get out of bed to bark. He lays in his bed, head still down when he gives off his "rooster crow-bark". It's a bit strange.

I've tried getting upset with him so he'll get the hint this isn't an acceptable time of the day to be barking. I've tried keeping him up later thinking that will help him sleep in, it doesn't. I've tried all I can think of. Since it's not getting light out as early anymore it has gotten better, he isn't quite as early with his rooster crow-bark but he's still doing it. I just wish I could break him of this new habit he's developed. I'm still hopeful that the colder the mornings get the more he'll enjoy his bed, feeling no need to bark.

When he first started this I assumed he barked because he was startled by noise from the downstairs neighbors. However, they moved out months ago and he's still barking almost every morning. Oh how I miss the good ole days when Simon loved to sleep in and was more courteous to his mommie! Sime, Sime, my dear sweet Rooster Sime! Lol!

Christmas Time Arrives!

I hope everyone had a great Turkey day! We did! We truly enjoyed the whole Thanksgiving weekend. My boyfriend had Friday off so that made it extra nice! The dishes that I made for Thanksgiving were all well received! The cake turned out awesome! I was very happy with my rocky road inspired cake! I was even asked to make another one for Christmas.

I plan on decorating tonight for Christmas. I can hardly wait to get out my decorations. There's this one rolly-poley Santa that fascinates Simon every year. Since it's got a rounded bottom it doesn't fall over when you bump into it, that's the part that's fascinating to him.

I'm excited about Christmas already! I'm currently mulling over what to get my boyfriend. I have ideas, it's just deciding what to go with. The boys and Storm are easy-breezy to shop for!

Another thing I look forward to this time of year are the holiday movies. I definitely have a few movies I want to go see. Arthur Christmas is top on my list! I heard about Arthur Christmas back in October and told my boyfriend about it at that point. I also must find time to watch Home Alone, it's one of my own personal Christmas traditions. I hope to get in Home Alone 1 and 2 this year!

Safe to say, I'm already well into the Christmas spirit!

Turkey Day Errands!

Earlier today I felt almost like Santa Claus. I made my list and I checked it twice. However, my list was for groceries. I had this brilliant idea to get my turkey day shopping out of the way today versus waiting until tomorrow. Tomorrow the stores will be slammed! I'm happy to report I won't be one of the thousands rather millions of people that will grace the doors of a nearby grocery store tomorrow...I hope! As long as I didn't forget anything that is! Like I said I've checked my list twice before I went and once after I got home. So I think I'm set!

We will be taking an appetizer, a side dish, and a dessert to Thanksgiving with my boyfriend's family. For the last two years I have baked an apple pie. I even got an early plan in my head as to the things I wanted to do different with this year's apple pie. But then in is family email I noticed that his family was requesting a cake for dessert too. So cake it is! I'm more comfortable baking cakes! I will be trying something new with this cake and hopefully it all turns out well. Here's the worst part about baking a pie, there's no sampling it or checking to see if it's done. With a cake you can taste the batter to get an idea of the finished product. Plus there's plenty of ways to make sure a cake is done. With an apple pie until it is sliced up you can't tell if the apples are really as tender as you want them. Pies can be tricky, so I'm certainly not disappointed I don't have to deal with that concern. For the cake the idea of a rocky road inspired cake rolled through my head. After lots of looking through recipes nothing completely fit my cake idea, there was similar stuff but I'll still have to improvise to attempt to make what I was envisioning. Despite the fact that rocky road ice cream is typically made with almonds, I will be using pecans...it's a Texas fave and it's what my mom sends us. Pecans it is! A little bit of AZ will be included in this cake! No fancy decorations on top I think it will look delicious if it can all turn out the way I'm picturing it in my head! Wish me luck!

As for the appetizer and side dish, we'll take a spinach dip and a green bean casserole. I've made French's version of green bean casserole many times as that is the recipe my mom has used for numerous years. Last year I used a new recipe I found and this year I will be using another new recipe. This year the recipe seems like a great combo of some fresh elements with some canned elements. We'll see how it goes! My spinach dip I especially look forward to making. I use elements of 2 different recipes for my spinach dip, so much fun to make! I had to go to 2 stores before I found the right bread that I use to serve it inside of, other than that small issue my shopping was a breeze.

I think I was brilliant by going to Target and getting all items I could then going to a grocery store just for produce items on my list. I figured the grocery store would be busy and Target would not be too bad. Both were rather easy to get in and get out of! Tomorrow won't be the same! The only bad news of the day is that I spent my afternoon tending to the "Human" errands so the trip to Petsmart was postponed until tomorrow. Sorry Sime! But I did get you some treats while at Target so you'll survive!

Chilly Big D!

Whew! Finally done with the cleansing diet. Though I'm happy to be done with it. There's a certain amount of training that's occurred during the 10 days of it so now everything I eat that I haven't been eating I feel guilty about. I had a tuna sandwich for lunch and I currently can't stop feeling as though I cheated on my diet. All I had was a tuna sandwich too. No chips, no wheat thins, nothing with it...just the sandwich and I have nothing but guilt. Geez! Not sure why but this time of doing the cleansing diet was super hard for me. Oh sure I had my good days but I had more bad days then I remember having in the past when I've done it.

It's a chilly day here in Big D! Cloudy skies overhead and light rain off and on. I had to stop messing with the lighter jackets and pull out my winter coat today. Oh get this, the forecast for yesterday claimed we would experience unseasonal temps. It was supposed to be 80 degrees yesterday. To this news Cody immediately went to the closet to pull out his swim trunks and then asked for some sunscreen SPF 30. While outside early yesterday I was skeptical about the temp hike as I glanced at the cloud cover over us. By the time we walked out of church we thought maybe there was a possibility it could burn off and warm up to the predicted 80 degrees allowing Cody to bask in the sun. But wait, just about 45 minutes later we came outside to immediately notice the temps had gone the other way. It was suddenly cooler. I knew at that point the 80 degree warm-up was a farce. There was no chance the temps were climbing up that high. As the day rounded out we had nothing but cloudy skies and spotty rain. I doubt the temp got up to 65. Needless to say Cody's swim trunks have once again been put back in the closet! LOL!

For most of November our weather has been unpredictable. Then again that's the best way to describe Dallas any time of the year. Still though the weather can't decide if it wants us to experience full blown winter or tease us with some perfect days. I have a feeling as we inch closer and closer to December winter temps will be here to stay and it will stop giving us those perfect days mixed in with colder days. Today is the perfect beef stew and cornbread day! Yum! Too bad we won't be having anything like that!

Halfway Done!

There's a song called "Halfway Gone" by Lifehouse. My boyfriend was making up his own version of the song and calling it "Halfway Done" last night as we are halfway done with this cleansing diet. Woo-hoo!

Here's my greatest tip if anyone else should ever try this diet....eat very soon after you get up in the morning. I'm not saying you have to run from bed to the kitchen but soon after getting up eat. The first 2 days I did alright no major energy difference. By the time day 3 came around I was feeling it. And oh my goodness day 4....I hit a wall, figuratively! I felt so drained in the morning it was ridiculous. I think if I had taken time to eat something or make my breakfast smoothie I wouldn't have felt so run down. Once Monday arrived I felt better in the morning than on Sunday morning but still had some energy problems. The energy difference for me is certainly felt the most in the morning hours.

Today and now that we're officially starting the second half, so to speak, of the diet my body is a little more used to not getting as much energy from food. I still don't have my normal energy amount and I know I won't until after this diet is done. The main thing is waiting for your body to adjust which happened for me during days 3 and 4. I'm hopeful that it will be somewhat smooth sailing from now until the end on Saturday night. This is certainly not an easy diet.

I am proud of myself for making a new veggie last night for dinner. I try hard to change it up a bit so we don't get too bored. Tall order on this type of diet but I'm proud to say I did something new for the first time last night....I sauteed fresh green beans and mushrooms with some garlic. I thought they turned out so well I plan on repeating the combo again soon.

Here's an interesting tidbit about this diet....I've never been on a diet that has made me think and dream about food as much as this one does. Each night I dream about food. I wake up recalling my dream I had about pancakes or pizza or whatever. Last time we did this diet I certainly thought about food a lot but I didn't dream about it! Bizarre!

Tonight I plan on looking through recipes for pies and other Thanksgiving fare as I prepare to figure out what to make for Thanksgiving. Hopefully looking through such yummy recipes isn't too much torture. I don't think it will be, I'm a focused person. Can't help but wonder though what kind of pie I will be dreaming about tonight?

This Past Sports Weekend!

First I must mention that this past Sunday my Cards beat the Eagles! What the heck? Didn't see that one coming? Awesome! I didn't pick them on either of my 2 pick sheets but it was a game I very happily marked wrong! Everyone will be happy to know that both pugs did their victory dances. Not sure which one dances better but Simon has some nice moves! LOL!

Too bad ASU didn't win this past weekend. I watched the game. I hung in there with them to the bitter end. And bitter it was! Back to back Saturday nightmares. Did anyone catch the upset of the weekend? TCU beat Boise State messing up Boise State's perfect record. Sweet!

It's kind of funny how my boyfriend and I root for each others teams. Of course, I claim all TX teams since I live here. I live in Dallas, I can't not root for the Cowboys or the Mavs or the Rangers. But I also know that come Sunday if the Cowboys win my boyfriend will be in a better mood. The Cards aren't doing too well this year so I can handle a Cardinal loss better than a Sun Devil loss this season. I'm not the happiest of campers when the Sun Devils lose. Just ask my boyfriend! Although I coped with their disappointing collapse this weekend alright. I think!

Off-Leash Time, Tae-Bo, and the Pugs Rumble!

The day started off crazy windy. We took the boys to the small off-leash dog area today. Cody had fun. He was totally into playing ball! Simon kept doing things that he's not supposed to do. In the end, I got fed up with Simon and told him his off-leash experience was over. I was content with making him sit in a makeshift time-out for awhile then minutes later we decided to end the off-leash time since it was getting cold and we needed to walk back.

My boyfriend and I worked out together doing tae-bo today. I haven't done tae-bo in ages. I used to do tae-bo as my main workout years ago. The last time I did tae-bo it was on VHS. Yeah, so it's been awhile. We'll see how sore we both are tomorrow! I'm sure I'll be a little sore but at least I'm no stranger to working out so the soreness shouldn't be too bad. We did a "bootcamp" style workout. The entire class on the DVD was dressed in army fatigues. It was fun!

I usually know when the boys are going to fight. Cody grumbles some beforehand but just a few minutes ago the boys went at each other for who knows what reason. Only they know! I wasn't in the same room with them at the time, all I heard was the sound of them fighting. I quickly dropped everything and went to see what was going on. Cody was making a lot of noise, Simon was making almost as much right back at him. Simon was spinning around as Cody chased him from one side then switched to a different side, trying desperately to anticipate Simon's move and then counter it. I clapped my hands a few times and did what I could to get them to stop. They didn't fight for long thank goodness! Usually I know right away what the fight is over, most frequently it's a rawhide or a toy. Tonight however, the reason for the fight is a complete mystery.

So it's day 3 of the cleansing diet. The weekend is the hardest! I went to the store late this afternoon. I overheard people talking about ice cream and the lady behind me in the check-out line was buying soda! Anyone have sympathy for me? My most exciting purchase at the store was a salad dressing that fits the parameters of our diet. I'm looking forward to a salad! I think my two fave parts food-wise of the diet are the breakfast smoothies and salmon. I don't get tired of either.

Various Thoughts!

Have we gotten used to time change? Nope! Simon is still anticipating things to happen for him an hour early than they are to occur. It certainly doesn't help either that I forgot to change a clock in the house and not once but twice I have looked at that clock thinking it's time to feed the boys when it's really an hour away from their feeding time. At this point I'm not sure who is more confused...me or Simon? Cody's just along for the ride! He'll eat whenever! Here's the thing that gets me the most, I feel as though the boys(mainly Simon) think I've forgotten to do for them. I haven't forgotten to feed him or walk him it's just not the right time yet.

Today is day 1 of our 10 day cleansing diet. My boyfriend and I have done this cleansing diet before. We actually did it last year at this same time. Last year we started 10 days from Thanksgiving so we would end the day before Thanksgiving. It was kind of tough getting through Wednesday night the day before turkey day but otherwise it was great timing. This year we opted to start a little sooner and we'll likely stay on the diet a little longer. We'll try to go right up until Thanksgiving. It's a difficult diet so I'm not sure how doable that really is. We're typically so eager for the 10 days to end continuing longer is difficult to imagine. Maybe we can add a few extra options to eat once the initial 10 days is over to make it the rest of the way to Thanksgiving. I actually haven't counted the days from now to Thanksgiving. All in all I'm not sure how many days of dieting I have ahead of me. I understand the diet is hard to do but my focus is on the benefits. It makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my body and I love how clear my skin looks during it.

This has been a weird week as far as the weather. Earlier in the week we had rain but the temp was kind of warmer than usual, now the temps are back down again. When sitting at my computer typing I need my space heater going in the room. I want to bathe the boys but I can't find a good time to do it based on the cold walks outside. Don't worry Cody you'll get your bath sooner or later! LOL! He's tolerate of bathes but certainly not in love with bath time.

Changing the Clocks!

First day dealing with time change. I like time change because we participate with it unlike AZ. So nothing changes on the TV schedule for us. But we do have to deal with getting used to the different time. Doesn't seem as though it would make a big difference and it doesn't for the most part. However, it constantly feels later than it is. Plus you have to get used to it getting dark so much sooner. The darkness is definitely the weirdest thing for me to adjust to.

My inner clock is a little bit thrown off. Not as thrown off as Simon's inner clock. Handling the stares from the Sime-Boo-Boo will be quite the issue for days to come. At 4:30 this afternoon he was ready for dinner. Try explaining to a pug daylight savings time has ended! This afternoon when he approached us in an effort to inform us that dinner time was looming we tossed a pillow in his direction he then turned around and left us alone for awhile. Lol!

Adjusting Simon's clock isn't as easy as changing the clocks in the house and the car. Cody doesn't seem fazed by the whole thing, he's way too casual. He trusts that overall I won't forget to walk him or feed him so no use staring me down until I respond. Thank you Code! By the end of the week Simon will be a much happier boy!

Games, Laughter, and Football Picks!

We started the weekend off right!...We spent Friday night having a pizza-gamer night. It was what I won from winning our football picks. I think pizza-gamer night is my fave bet to make. The winner gets to pick the pizza and all games that are played. For my winning pizza-gamer night, I was on a great winning streak that lasted all night long!

It's been a fun weekend. We went to a birthday get-together for my boyfriend's nephew last night. Lots of fun, lots of laughter. I always have so much fun at those types of get-togethers. I love how much everyone laughs and enjoys each others company. Great fun! I made brownies as a gift for his nephew. I believe they turned out well. The last batch of brownies I made a week or so ago didn't. I didn't account for the fact that I was using a different pan then what I normally use, therefore they needed to bake longer.

As for this week's football picks....I had a terrible time trying to pick the Cardinals game. And Seattle is in town to play the Cowboys. I've lived in Seattle and I was a big fan while I lived there. It's going to be weird to see the Seahawks playing the Cowboys today. A few years back in the play-offs Tony Romo muffed the hold for the extra point kicker, he then tried to run it in and was stopped by Seattle. I remember that game well! Back when I watched that game I of course cheered like crazy for Seattle. Little did I know within just a few years time I would be living in Dallas and cheering for the Cowboys. How did that happen? Lol!

Nicknames!

Lets talk about nicknames. I grew up with so many nicknames I'm surprised I know what my real name is!!! Lol! My mom calls me "punky", "pooh bear", and "babe". Let me say there isn't many people that can say they have lived through the embarrassment of their mother being in a department store loudly blurting out the term "pooh bear" to get the attention of her adult daughter. Geesh! As for the term, "babe" coming out of my mom's mouth it makes me feel like "Babe the pig" from the movies. Whereas, "babe" coming out of my boyfriend's mouth is welcomed.

My grandpa called me "skeeter" or "skeet" for short and "sugarfoot". He loved the term "sugarfoot". I found it to be slightly embarrassing. From time to time my cousin's on my dad's side love to remind me of grandpa's nicknames for me. My grandma called me "sweetie" no one said it the way she said it. I often think about the way she affectionately called me "sweetie". My uncle called me "sweetie" as well. Much like my grandma he had his own style of saying it. I occasionally miss hearing him call me "sweetie". He was a big man's man type of guy and that affectionate term "sweetie" coming out of his mouth was extra special!

One of my cousin's on my mom's side came up with the nickname "jabber jaws", because according to him....I talk too much. Maybe I did as a child and I'm sure I have my talkative moments now as an adult. But overall I'm not the "jabber jaws" chattering type.

Where am I going with all this nickname stuff? I have answered to so many nicknames/terms of endearment that at times when I hear someone close to me use my actual name it sounds so foreign. It's as if I'm looking around the room waiting for someone else to answer to it. My mom also uses a shortened version of my full first name when she isn't using a nickname. Sometimes when she does use my full first name I immediately question whether or not I'm in trouble before answering her. Something similar happened last night with my boyfriend, he uses so many terms of endearment with me that when he said my name last night it once again felt foreign. I guess I prefer being called "babe", "honey", or even "furrball" more than my actual name. Yes, he calls me "furrball" from time to time. Not sure why but I've gotten used to it. It's funny, makes me laugh.

When naming the boys I wanted shorter styled cute names for them. I only considered 2 syllable names when thinking about names for them. I never once thought about nicknames when choosing their names. I was not about to name one Sebastian with the intent of calling him Baz! Nope! But let me tell you the boys are not short of nicknames! And the funniest part is that they know all the nicknames they have too. Cody is Cody-man, no stretch there! He's also known as Coco, Cokey(long O sound), Code, Coshy(long O sound), and boo. I call him Code more than I think I call him Cody. Much like my mom does with my name. As for Simon. Wow, what nicknames I've pulled out of his name. A plethora! Sime is most frequently used even by my boyfriend. Others are: Sim(long I sound), Simo, Sisi(long I sound), Momo, boo-boo, and boobie. I hate to admit to boobie but one day I wanted to cutesy up boo-boo as if boo-boo isn't cute enough. Anyway the term boobie came out, I use it somewhat rarely. Both boys get called "sweet boy". And just the other day I called Simon, E.T., he has a bit of an extraterrestrial look too him. Think about it! He didn't seem too impressed by the new term and quickly backed away my boyfriend tried to tell him he should take it as a compliment because E.T. was popular at one time. I doubt that reasoning worked with a dog though! Lol!

Anyway I just had nicknames on my brain ever since last night. It is strange to me though how I have so many nicknames. The fact that they are used so frequently and to the point that my own name sounds odd coming out of certain peoples mouths is interesting too. Not sure what that says about me! LOL! I'll add it doesn't seem odd coming out of everyone's mouth just those closest to me!

November Arrives!

All day long yesterday I meant to put up a Happy Halloween post but never got around to it. It was a busy day as are most Monday's for me. Monday's are the worst....I make it busy for myself but yet it's hard to get going on a Monday. So here is a belated Happy Halloween and might I add welcome to November. Aww, November! It makes me excited because 3 weeks away is Thanksgiving and then comes Christmas. The stores are already in Christmas mode! I used to think like my mom that it's way too early to be seeing Christmas stuff in stores. However, in recent years I totally embrace that Christmas stuff starts arriving the second Halloween is done. The Christmas season is magical and like no other time of the year. Why not want for that season to begin a little early? To me this is the time to look around at Christmas stuff before you actually have to get too into the major planning of Christmas. So I embrace it!

I went into my apartment complex office to talk about my new lease that is to be signed today and I was told by the new employee that she couldn't help me....based on her new employee status. I was dumbfounded and couldn't help but think to myself, "So because you are new this means you can't write down a note and an apartment number?" I tell you the people they hire at this complex is interesting for sure. It's a nice place to live the office staff isn't that great though. When I first moved here the office staff got things done but were unprofessional. Now they change out the staff so frequently it's hard to keep up. They are definitely searching for the right combo. I think they need to keep searching!

For me yesterday was an annoying day! Just didn't go that smoothly for me. And it certainly didn't go as I anticipated the day going. Oh well, that happens from time to time. Get over it and move on! I spent a ridiculous amount of time looking for a crochet pumpkin pin that I remembered having since I was a kid. I never did find it! Then texted with my mom about the pin and found out she has it. Geesh! As I already stated yesterday was an annoying day for me, I spent way too much time looking for that darn pin that's all the way in Phx. Geez!

Costumes and Football Fill the Weekend!

First things first, this is post 300! Can you believe it? I like doing this blog even though sometimes I run behind but overall I enjoy making each post. Still can't believe I've made 300 posts now!

We had a good weekend. The costume party was fun at my boyfriend's work. He was surprised to see me as a ladybug. I hadn't told him what I was going to be, as I wanted it to be a surprise. He called me his lovebug after seeing me in my costume. He went to the party as a motocross biker. He had cool boots to match with his pants and shirt. The best part was his hair! He styled it just right to look more biker-ish! Lol!

Before the Cowboys game on Sunday I told my boyfriend I was done watching the Cowboys this year if they couldn't win against the lowly St. Louis Rams. The lowly Rams didn't even have their starting QB. So it shouldn't have been any contest. Lucky for all, the Cowboys won and I will continue watching this season! I'm not upset about the Cardinals losing because they just came off their bye week and they were playing a much more elite team than they are right now. So no shocker they lost! Has anyone noticed that in the last 3 weeks the teams coming off their bye week have awful performances in their games? That's because in the new collective bargaining agreement between owners and players the players demanded 4 consecutive days off during their bye week. Which means they are getting hardly any practice time in and mostly vacation time during the bye week. We've discussed quite a bit in recent weeks the level of play this year in the NFL is seriously weak!

Now for some good football pick news. I recently started participating in my boyfriend's work pool. When I first started participating I was worried about getting too many picks wrong and embarrassing myself and my boyfriend. I am happy to report that on the 3rd week of me participating I won! They didn't even need to wait until last night's Ravens-Jaguars game to declare me winner! Yay for me! Simon is hoping I spend the money I won on bones! ;)

Buggin' Out!

I went yesterday to get my Halloween costume. My boyfriend's work is having a Halloween party tonight. I had absolutely nothing in my closet to put together as a costume so I had to go get one. As I stated previously in a post, After looking online I had narrowed my costume options to a pumpkin, a ladybug, or a bumble bee.

I will let my inner insect shine through by being a ladybug! Since there was no bumble bee costume at the store the choice was between a pumpkin or a ladybug. The ladybug won out because I could picture accessorizing it better than the pumpkin. I even bought some fake eyelashes. I've actually never wore fake eyelashes so this should be interesting. And I painted my nails bright red and then added some black spots. I also plan on doing some pretty dramatic make-up to help it all work together. Thanks to a friend of mine from college she has given me plenty of tips for the eyelashes and the costume-drama make-up.

It should be fun! I'm looking forward to it. I've definitely had my moments through the years where I was completely not into Halloween. For some reason though getting a costume sounded fun to me this year. It's something different not something we do every day that's for sure. So just have fun with it has been my thought process!

Getting Colder!

Well, bring out the jackets, sweatshirts, and sweaters. Not that one needs to be in full winter gear here yet but it's chilled down considerably. I'm beginning to bundle up a little more than I have been. And today was my first day in long sleeves. For the first time in a very long time Cody overheard the word "cold" in the forecast. I hate to break the news to him but I do believe 80-degree temps are gone for the year.

I currently don't have A/C on in my house. The space heater has reappeared in the living room...which Sime loves! Quite possibly the actual heater may get turned on soon too. The temp inside our place is barely getting up to 71 or 72 before dipping back down. The boys will be going to bed in sweaters tonight! Cody gets cold easily and Sime has a thin fur. I'll be running the oven some tonight for dinner so that might warm up the place a tiny bit.

Earlier today I was trying to figure out what to be for Halloween. I'm thinking a pumpkin, a ladybug, or a bumble bee. We'll see, I'll go tomorrow to see what stores have left. I saw a peacock costume today. The peacock costume is my back-up plan. I would rather have any of the other three I mentioned. Last night I was recalling with my boyfriend some of my fave Halloween costumes from when I was a kid. I loved my Cookie Monster costume! My mom has a pic of me in that costume. I'm not fond of quite a few pics of myself, but I must say I did look kinda cute as Cookie Monster! And one year I was a bunny. I liked being a bunny too! The bunny costume was pure white which I spilled punch on. Typical kid! How many kids can keep a pure white costume clean? Likely not many! As for Cody and Simon...Simon is going to be a rottweiler while Cody will stay a pug! ;)

Football Picks and World Series

I would like to inform all that I have achieved victory with my football picks this past weekend. I was very excited to win! I get a good prize too! I actually only missed 3 picks in all. I would've only missed 2 if I had gone with my gut feeling that Detroit would go down.

Not that great of a weekend for Detroit sports now that I think about it. The Lions suffered their first loss and the Tigers lost out on going to the World Series to some team....What team was that again?....Oh yeah....The Texas Rangers!!!!!! LOL!!!

Most stores were closed by the time the Rangers officially won to make the World Series. However, due to the win they re-opened at midnight to sell shirts. So they closed at 9:00pm only to re-open 3 hours later at midnight. I thought it was interesting! Shows you just how fast they can start selling the shirts!

World Series Bound!

The Texas Rangers are headed to the World Series. Just a little while ago the Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers to advance to the World Series. Woo-hoo!!!!! The game wasn't close by any means since the 3rd inning but we hung in there and watched until the end because we didn't want to miss the celebration. We did take a few breaks to check in with the ASU game.

I love the shirts the players got at the conclusion of the game! I might have to get one of those! It's been a fun ride watching them go through the play-offs. Very exciting that they've been able to reach the World Series now 2 years in a row! Awesome! Pop the bubbly we're going to the World Series! Antlers Up!

My Football Picks!

My football picks haven't been going so great. I must do better this week! My boyfriend has a small win streak going with our weekly NFL pick sheet challenge. But never fear for this is hopefully the week I can reclaim VICTORY!!!!!

It's been a tough season thus far to pick. Many teams that were good last year aren't so good this year. And teams that were on the brink of Super Bowl caliber last year are losing to weird teams. Tough to predict! It was a huge hindrance not having an off-season. I thought the Cardinals would be better yet it makes sense that they aren't. I mean what do you expect when they signed a new starting QB as training camp started. For him there's been little to no time to get used to the system and develop chemistry. I'm still hopeful that they will flourish a bit in the 2nd half of the season. As for the Cowboys, I don't believe anyone in these parts had high expectations. We expect them to compete and be decent but are understanding that they have a new coach and a new system to get used to as well. However, we didn't anticipate at times Romo would be considered the MVP for the opposing team! Geesh!

I still haven't watched a single Cards game but I've seen all of the ASU games. I'm ready for the game later tonight. I just saw when I logged on that the current NCAA football headline reads: "This Team Will Have A Very Good Day"....the team pictured was none other than Oregon! Well, lets hope they don't have too good of a day against ASU. Darn Ducks!

Oh and Simon would like to throw in his 2 cents on the ASU vs. Oregon game. This is what he thinks of ducks. He says, "Take that you stupid duck!". Simon's mommie finished the job by throwing the dismantled duck in the trash a little while ago.

A B-day Cake I Made!

My boyfriend's cousin celebrated her birthday this week. I baked a cake for her. I love baking, everyone knows that! She gave me a bit of a challenge wanting a strawberry cake with strawberry frosting. I made both from scratch. My first ever attempt at strawberry cake from scratch. I have made strawberry cake from a mix many years ago. But obviously I'm much more into cooking and baking nowadays so making it from a box wasn't an option. The only critical point I have was the frosting. It tasted yummy but got a little melted as it sat out. It was cream cheese based frosting but it should be able to stay out for a little while without melting too much. However, I do know that is a common problem with cream cheese based frostings, they melt some. So if I ever make strawberry cream cheese frosting again I might have to tweak it a bit to figure out how to get the frosting to not melt so quickly. As for the decorating, I dyed fondant then cut and molded it into the shapes I wanted. All in all I think the cake turned out well! It tasted yummy! That's the most important! Below is a pic of the cake.

It's Friday!

It's been a busy week! Glad it's Friday! I'm ready to relax for the weekend. I really hope to get some extra ZZZ's in this weekend! We've had our fair share of rain lately. It's currently sunny and beautiful but earlier in the week it was rainy.

On Wednesday morning it had just finished raining when I took the boys for their morning walk. As we were walking down our usual pathway there were cars going by. Some were zipping by faster than others. Well a nincompoop was barrelling down the road in the right lane he or she hit a puddle at a speed that was too fast on our somewhat residential road and guess what happened as a result...myself, Cody, and Simon got splashed big time. I think Simon escaped serious splashing since he walks so far ahead. He got wet but not drenched. I was irritated at first and then started laughing, not much more I could do than laugh. Those that personally know Cody...take a minute and imagine the look on his face when this happened! Lol! I would like to say it is beyond me to understand why people lack the presence of mind to avoid the far right lane when it is raining or has just rained. I learned of the importance of avoiding right lanes when I lived in Seattle. There's way too much water that collects on the right side. I've even had scary situations occur where I've hit a dip in the road and way more water than my windshield wipers could handle has come flying at me blocking my vision for a few seconds. So I avoid right lanes in bad weather until I truly need to be there to turn.

Cody seems to be doing much better. However, I continue to give him pepto with each meal. Over the weekend I'll begin weening him off the pepto. It's good to see him arriving in the kitchen anxious to eat versus turning down meal after meal. There was one time this week I tried crushing up the pepto and sprinkling it over the food. That wasn't a good idea in Cody's opinion! He avoided eating a few kernels of food that were super coated in the pepto sprinkles.

Super Rainy Sunday!

Despite the Cowboys not playing this week there's still plenty of sports to watch here. Take your pick....college football or baseball! The Rangers started their series against the Tigers last night. Plus the Red River Rivalry game between Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners was played yesterday. I was sure it was going to be a great game. It was a huge disappointment. The Longhorns forgot to show up! The good news of yesterday was that I got to see the ASU game! And ASU won! Yay! At times this season thus far I've enjoyed watching college football more than pro.

Now it's Sunday, a super rainy Sunday. It's been pouring! The Rangers-Tigers game 2 has been postponed due to the huge amount of rain we've received. Without the Cowboys playing and no way for me to watch the Cards, I must admit the NFL football this weekend isn't quite as appealing. At least we get to watch Houston play. While watching the Houston game I spotted the Cards score, I quickly thought to myself that it was okay I couldn't watch. Because I can hardly bare to see the score run across the bottom of my TV screen. One thing I'm glad about is that I didn't pick the Cards on my pick sheet. As most already know, I often don't pick the Cards because if they lose I lose double. I'm upset they lost plus I'm upset I got the pick wrong.

Oh man, my poor little Cody-man. He has been dealing with something the last 10 days. He has tummy issues going on. He gets better after having a dose or two of pepto. He stays better for a couple days then all of a sudden his tummy issues are back. Last time he dealt with something similar I was told to give him heartburn medicine but the heartburn med that I used last time is not working. He only feels better after having pepto. I'm debating about taking him to the vet sometime this week. Just wish he could get better and stay better!

After turning down his breakfast this morning he later showed signs of interest in food when I was in the kitchen messing with peanut butter. Simon wanted peanut butter right away and Cody came over interested as well. I gave Simon some and put some in Cody's bowl. As I laid the bowl down for Cody, Simon was done with his and lunged for Cody's. Cody took issue with that and let him have it. A small dog dispute broke out. I just let Cody take care of business. After he whipped his little bro into shape he turned down the peanut butter. It was all a waste! He then went back to his bed. At least he had enough energy to tell off his over anxious foodie bro!

Wrap Up Of My Mom's Visit!

I just dropped my mom off at the airport a little bit ago. It was a fun filled visit. Yet we had some relaxing moments as well.

We had a couple mall days! I don't get to shop with my mom much anymore so it's nice to have a girly shopping day or days when she's here. I don't believe either of us are that into going to malls on a regular basis, however, it's fun to go together when there's a good reason to shop.

We saw one movie at a theatre while she was here. Wish we could have seen at least one more. But I think Hollywood is broken! What ever happened to the days of one blockbuster after another being featured at theatres? Beats me! Like I said Hollywood is broken! They need better ideas and those ideas need to come along more frequently!

Yesterday was pretty fun! We went to play mini-golf and then went inside to play some arcade type games. She beat me at most everything. Or shall I say I let her win! ;) Right before I dropped her off at the airport I mentioned that I wished I would have won at a few more games than I did. She just said, "Maybe next time, I'm slowing down!". LOL!

We also got to introduce her to 2 different restaurants that she hadn't been to before. We went to Red Hot and Blue and then the following night we went to Texadelphia. Next time we will have to try to work in Boston's and a repeat visit to Cheddar's.

Well, I hope my mom had as much fun as we did having her here. It was a good visit.

My Bday Weekend!

I've been meaning to make this post for a couple of days now just been busy. My birthday weekend was enjoyable! My mom arrived last Thursday and will leave tomorrow. It's been a good visit...featuring great weather!

I decided on Chili's for my bday dinner. Just like old times! Then on Saturday we had a small get-together. Yummy burgers and some very yummy cake! I decided on a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. Man, is it good! We still have some left!

We had a little trouble finding a purse I wanted. We went looking 2 different times. I finally got one! Oddly enough I didn't get the one I had my sights set on a few weeks ago. I gave up the idea of ordering my purse online. Purses look very different in store than they do online! Actually one purse caught my eye. After being reasonably satisfied with the purse I had spotted I explained to my mom what I would prefer for a style of purse. I then turned around to spot another purse that fit my description better. So that's the one I came away with! I kept the tags on it for 2 days but I took those off last night after fully deciding my new purse is a keeper! Yes, I'm crazy and I keep tags on purses for just a couple days before cutting them off. The tags are usually somewhat easy to hide.

As for football on my bday weekend....Yikes! The Cowboys lost in an embarrassing fashion once again! Local newspaper headlines were brutal towards Romo. Two headlines read: "Tony Romo is Lions' MVP" and "Cowboys Lose in Historic Collapse". Needless to say, I've stayed away from sports news for the last few days! To make matters worse my Cardinals lost too! At least ASU beat OSU! Woo-hoo!

Ready for a visit from Mom!

So Monday football was excellent last night! Great Cowboys victory! We were in good moods here! Back on Friday I saw all the buses for the Monday Night Football crew driving into town. Which was fun to see!

I think we are about ready here in Big D for my mom's visit. I spent some time today tidying up a bit. I've been thinking about things to do while my mom is here and my boyfriend has mentioned some stuff too. So I think we will have plenty to do while she visits.

Since she's coming for my bday I've been of course thinking a lot about my cake. That is the best part of a birthday after all. Yummy cake!

As for dinner on my bday....I can't decide where I want to go. I'm always pretty focused on exposing my mom to restaurants she can't frequent in Phoenix. Boston's and Cheddar's sound good! And we've already discussed that we must take her to Texadelphia this time around! However, I must admit I've got a hankering for On The Border and Chili's! Does Phoenix have On The Border? I think certain parts do but I don't think it's widespread. Unsure though!

So my mom arrives on Thursday and to my mom I say this....Welcome to Big D and I'll meet you in baggage claim!

Purses On My Mind! part 2

Okay, here's something slightly interesting. Since I'm in the market for a new purse. And since us ladies like looking at purses and such things I've been glancing at a few web sites to see if there's anything that truly excites me. So far nothing as truly excited me! Now remember my purses really get used. This is a 365 day purse not an occasional purse! That being said my new purse needs to make me smile!

So there I was a little while ago sitting at my computer typing my previous purse post and at the conclusion I figured I would go browse at one of my fave purse sites to see if anything new has popped up. Sure enough what do my eyes spot as soon as I click on "new arrivals"...they spot what will be my new purse. A ruby shaded crocodile textured purse. Reminiscent of my old purse I loved so much. Sweet!

Purses On My Mind!

I'm ready for the weekend! Just one more day to go! It's been a long week! Not sure what we will do for the weekend I'm just looking forward to it no matter what we decide to do.

Since my mom's visit is just days away I'm continuing to think of things we can do while she's here. We certainly have to have a mall day! That's a must! I want a new purse! I get a new purse every year for my birthday. It might not sound that exciting but it is to me.

I'm not like a lot of women that have a purse for every occasion. I get one purse and I use it for a full year no matter where I go. As a youngster I grew up around a mom and grandmother that always changed purses before going to church. To get me in on the act my grandmother gave me one of her old purses it was truly fancy in my opinion. A black all beaded purse with a clasp closure at the top, the purse was carefully formed into a perfect circle. The purse held my little tiny Bible and a pencil. I felt so grown-up carrying that purse into church each week. Now as an adult if my grandmother knew I never change purses before attending church she would likely roll her eyes and give a slight sigh! Oh and a certain look would definitely come my way!

This time around with my new purse though I am searching for one that isn't quite as casual looking as my current purse that way it will be a little more appropriate at all functions. I'm not that into animal print but I've noticed animal print and animal textures are popular this year. Despite not being that into animal print/textures I must say my favorite purse in recent years was a crocodile textured purse that had a glossy sheen to it. The color was unique too, it was a very workable color with a hint of a wine color. Man, I loved that purse it felt classy and casual all at the same time! That's my style! I loved that purse so much I kept it for 2 years instead of just 1.

Where's Grammie?

I've been meaning to capture the response the boys(mainly Cody) have when I tell them their Grammie is coming. At about 35 seconds into the video he's likely thinking he's getting tricked again and soon lays down. But as I keep mentioning Grammie he keeps looking back out the window to check. He's funny! And easy to trick!

Storm's Adventure!

Two weeks ago my boyfriend's cat, Storm had an abscessed tooth and had to have it removed. It was quite the ordeal. I've never seen such a loopy animal after such a procedure. This week I took her to the vet for her post tooth issue check-up. After getting done at the vet's office I decided to drop by my place with her so she could see the boys. I thought she would enjoy a change of scenery before heading back to her place. When I brought her into the house and sat her down on the floor in her cage. Both boys came up to greet her. Each taking turns to say hi to her. She then emerged from her cage and went on an exploratory tour of the house. The boys have been over to my boyfriend's place numerous times but this was the first time Storm has ever seen the boy's pad! They were all happy to see each other and the boys didn't mind her exploring their castle all she wanted.

It's sweet to see the interactions between the 3 of them! They are all comfortable around each other. I'm sure Storm was thinking, "So this is where you two knuckleheads go home to after you come visit me."

NFL Schedule!

I have looked ahead at the NFL schedule and I couldn't help but notice my Cardinals have no nationally televised game!!!! Irritating! Who should I shake my fist at? ;) I understand since they had no decent QB back when the season schedule was made, however it's still disappointing to me. So I just have to hope each week that the Cards are randomly chosen to be shown during the day on FOX or CBS.

For the first time in a VERY long time the local TV stations will carry another game opposite of the Cowboys! Believe me we were shocked by this! Normally when the Cowboys are playing that's the only game offered but not this week. San Diego vs. New England will be doing battle on another station opposite the Cowboys game....Shocker! When I first looked at the guide on my TV I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me! I checked twice to make sure something weird didn't happen and it was showing me the correct day.

I did pretty decent with my pick sheet last week. Hopefully I can improve on it this week! Week one is always interesting to pick almost as hard to pick as the last week of the season. Last week when I was doing my picks I had about 3 teams that I couldn't name the quarterback of. Which is odd for me! I normally know that stuff right away. There was so much team shifting in just a few days this season due to the lockout that it's impossible to know where everyone ended up. Surprise, surprise....Hasselback is now the quarterback of Tennessee no longer in Seattle.

2 Years!

So for our 2 year anniversary we went to the same restaurant as last year. It's the same establishment that we went to for our first date but a different location than the one we went to on our first date. Great food! We shared fajitas. Can you believe before moving to Texas I had fajitas maybe twice in my life? Well I've certainly made up for a lack of fajitas in my previous years! LOL! As was discussed between us at dinner AZ doesn't have nearly as good of fajitas as TX does. And yes, my boyfriend has had both so we are both able to compare.

It was a lovely evening. I was very excited all day for the evening. My excitement was definitely reminiscent of the same excitement I felt for our first date. Safe to say my boyfriend over spent! I am now the proud recipient of a beautiful bracelet which I have worn each day since he gave it to me. And the red tulip bouquet in a vase on my dining table continues to blossom and brighten up the place. I love how we each got a box of candy for each other and it's the same kind we got for each other last year. Lol! What's an anniversary without a box of chocolates for your sweetie?

Before we went out to dinner earlier in the day I drove to the nearest Cheesecake Factory, which believe me isn't near! I got us 2 slices of cheesecake for a surprise dessert after we got back from dinner. Only problem was we were both too stuffed for the cheesecake so we had part of it last night and will finish up the rest tonight. I got a slice of caramel pecan turtle and a slice of the 30th anniversary cheesecake. The caramel pecan turtle is out of this world! I must say it's nice that we have such a decadent dessert that is allowing us to spread out our anniversary a little! Yum!

To my boyfriend, thanks for a wonderful evening out! I had an amazing time celebrating with you! You always make me feel so special! You are my sweetness! Oh and you receive brownie points for remembering what I wore on our first date! :)

Hey, I know you!

Later this week we will be celebrating 2 years of dating. So I got my lovely boyfriend a little something last week. As of this afternoon I had yet to get a card and a gift bag to put the gift in. I decided to head to Target to look for both. So after reading through many cards, nearly every one in the section. I pick up yet another card to read. It has some cute lovey-dovey giraffes on the front of it, as I'm in the middle of reading the card I suddenly hear a voice over my shoulder that says, "that looks like a good one." I instantly pause thinking to myself that the voice I heard sounds familiar. I look up to see my wonderful smiling boyfriend standing next to me. I cracked up at the sight of him. After being pleasantly surprised maybe even slightly startled I ask him what he's doing there, he responds, "the same thing you're doing". As we chatted briefly I couldn't help but notice he was hiding something behind his back! Hmm, I wonder what it is? I didn't end up getting the card since I didn't want him getting a glimpse like that. It was a funny encounter!

A Sports Filled Weekend!

Well it's back to some hot temps for us. Good news is the latest heat wave will be short. By Thursday the temps will go back down to a more pleasing degree.

We of course watched plenty of football this weekend. We even got to see some of the ASU game. I hope they have a decent season. I was happy to see the Cardinals came from behind to win! Yay! I'm sure everyone saw how horrible the Cowboys loss was on Sunday night. I was walking through a store earlier today when I spotted some Romo jerseys on display. I couldn't help but wonder how many they've sold in the last 2 days? Likely none! I can only imagine the conversations concerning Romo on talk radio this week. This city isn't exactly that high on Romo anyway. He definitely faces tons of criticism which truly surprised me when I first moved here.

We also watched the women's final at the US Open on Sunday afternoon. Now I've never been much of a fan of the Williams sisters. I've had times when I've tolerated them but it's been awhile. I could not believe the scene that Serena Williams caused at the US Open. I don't care that she is from America I will not root for her. I was embarrassed to see an American athlete act like that. She was only fined $2000 for her non-stop tirade which in my opinion is NOT nearly enough. A fine of a measly $2000 is embarrassing as well! I guess Miss Williams should be glad she's a woman and in the sport of tennis because if she was a man in the sport of football, basketball, or even baseball the fine would have been more substantial. Can you imagine David Stern tolerating a player berating a ref during the NBA Finals? Hmm, NO! I could see him issuing a fine and possibly a one game suspension.

Just a little side note...this is somewhat unbelievable to me. I went to Petsmart a few days back. I saw these cute rawhides made in the shape of pretzels. They are new to the market, part of a line of "ballpark" themed rawhides. They looked good to me! Perfect size for the boys in a somewhat challenging shape too. The other night I decided it was pretzel time for the boys for their evening snack. Cody worked on his for about 5 minutes then decided it wasn't worth it to him. Then astonishingly 5 minutes later Simon decided it wasn't worth it to him either. I have no clue what is wrong with these brand new pretzel rawhides but neither of my boys wanted them. Simon is my hungry hungry hippo so when he turns it down there's certainly something wrong with the rawhides. The pretzels continue to sit around here but neither dog has changed his mind about them. I struck out with both dogs! That's a first!

My Stubborn Mule!

Did you know I have a stubborn mule? Well I do. Oddly enough he is in the form of a pug yet he's a mule! Cody has a little mind of his own. So does Simon but he doesn't have as many requirements when on a walk. Cody hates wet grass and puddles. He will do anything possible to avoid both.

This morning I'm walking the boys as always. We are on our typical route. Apparently our complex has changed the times that the sprinklers come on. The grass and sidewalks were both wet. Cody was none to happy about it. To avoid a large puddle I chose to walk the boys through the grass. Simon was game, Cody dug his heels into the ground and refused to budge. I gave a gentle tug to his leash to get him moving. Which didn't work. He's a rather sturdy 16 lbs. and there's no moving him when he doesn't want to move. Cody and I then have a short chat. He decides his plan of action is to step in the street to avoid the puddle and the wet grass. There was no car coming...I wasn't completely thrilled with his choice but at least he knows not to jump in front of a car. A little while later upon our return we came across the same puddle and wet grass area. This time I didn't take the boys close enough to the street for that to be Cody's option. He had to climb a hill....a wet grassy hill! He was not pleased. He dug his heels in the ground at the bottom of the hill. Simon and I stopped to look back at him. He wasn't about to move. So here I am essentially playing tug-of-war with a 16 lbs pug on the edge of the walking path as cars and kids walking to school go by. Slightly embarrassing! After receiving a stern look and noticing that I had a convincing tone to my voice Cody soon decided to move his little rear up the hill.

In the end I can laugh it off! It's funny to me how dogs have little things that they must be convinced to do. The funniest part is that Cody isn't terribly scared of water. He's always been tolerate of his bath time. So why on earth he puts up such a fuss when walking through water or wet grass or walking in rainy weather I'm not sure? He's a mystery wrapped in a riddle!

Labor Day Weekend!

Well it's been a nice long and relaxing weekend. The main focus of the weekend has been Storm and tennis. We've watched plenty of the U.S. Open. They don't feature all the matches that we want to watch on TV so we've been watching some matches online at the US Open website.

My boyfriend's cat, Storm, hasn't had a good weekend. She's dealing with an abscess tooth. We called a few animal hospitals yesterday trying to get her seen but was unsuccessful. Her face has been swollen all weekend and yesterday it was so puffy her eye was starting to close. We got her to a vet this morning. She is currently at the animal hospital either in surgery or waiting for surgery. Poor little thing! Storm is a little up there in age so I'm concerned about the risks of the anaesthetic. Hopefully, she'll be good as new very quickly but for the next couple of days she'll definitely be taking it easy.

This weekend has also been the start of the college football season. LSU played Oregon at Cowboys Stadium. There were lots of LSU fans around. It doesn't seem quite fair to have Oregon come all the way to Texas for a game with LSU. Louisiana is a neighboring state so it was very easy for their fans to get here for the big game. Actually I must admit I didn't realize at first that LSU was playing Oregon. On Saturday I had seen some Arkansas fans dressed head to toe in their razorback gear so I assumed it was LSU versus Arkansas. Then my boyfriend informed me it's Oregon that's in town not Arkansas. How was I supposed to know? I still have yet to see an Oregon duck fan and the game was 2 days ago!

In other college football news we were heartbroken that TCU lost to Baylor. It was a seriously intense game. Not as intense as a ASU/U of A rivalry but close. Baylor built a huge lead then simply fell apart. I was thinking to myself I've never seen a team fall so far apart so fast in any game. TCU came raging back. In the end Baylor got it together with only a minute to go to take the lead back with a field goal. By the time TCU got the ball back they just couldn't get close enough to their goal to give their kicker a reasonable shot at a field goal. If TCU had pulled of that victory it would have been a classic for years to come.

Various Thoughts as September Begins!

Finally it's September! Yay! I'm happy to report that the temps in big D will be in the 80's by Monday and stay in the 80's all week. Sweet! I can certainly handle that! This summer was a scorcher. It appears though we've turned the corner and for the foreseeable future the scorching heat is behind us. Whew!

Remember how I mentioned a few month ago that a In-N-Out Burgers is being built near me? Well it's getting closer and closer to being completed. Don't worry I'll definitely be in line at some point during it's first few days when it opens. I happened to go by there the other day and I must admit I was shocked at how it looks. It doesn't look like the traditional In-N-Out that I grew up seeing. It's been made to fit in with the rest of the businesses in the area. Complete with the right shade of taupe and faux brick. Now back in May the new Petco suddenly changed the look of it's main entrance just weeks after opening. So it's rather apparent that I live in an area that has some pretty stiff building codes. When I first moved here to TX one of the first things I noticed was BRICK! Real brick and faux brick on houses, on businesses, even on the roads(crosswalks). There's a serious obsession with brick here! Kind of odd to see a In-N-Out with brick work.

I've noticed Halloween stuff popping up in stores. The boys won't be dressing up but I still look through the Halloween costumes for dogs each time I go into a store that features them. I look because it's funny to see what they've come up with each year for dogs. If I tried to dress the boys up in a silly costume they would both be certain I had gone nuts! Truly flipped my lid this time! I can only imagine the glances they would give me and each other as I struggled to put them in a hot dog costume or a dinosaur costume! Lol!!! Although, Simon would surely love the idea of trick-or-treating. He would hope for bones galore!

So Long August!

Is it bad that it's only Wednesday and I'm already super anxious for the weekend? I just realized earlier today that this weekend is Labor Day weekend. Which makes it even better!

Woo-hoo! This is the last day of August. It seemed to go by slowly this year for me. August always flew by when I was a kid dreading the start of school, nowadays it slowly lingers on. I'm always eager to get through August. It's hot! There's not much happening as it seems I'm waiting around for the US Open and football season to start. So bring on September and some cooler temps....please.

Now here in Big D the beginning of September marks a very important event for little Simon.....acorn season! The acorns have started to fall. The non ripe ones have begun hitting the ground luckily for the acorns Simon isn't picky. He doesn't insist on them being ripe!

I haven't had time to enjoy any US Open action today. But the best part of the US Open to me is that there's matches played at night in a time zone that's only an hour ahead of mine. So I'm always able to catch up on the action in the evenings. Which is exactly what I'll be doing tonight. Hopefully some good matches will be featured.

Weekend Fun!

It's a rather quiet day here for us. My boyfriend is currently out at the Finals of the Texas Tennis Open. We will meet up later to attend a birthday party. I baked brownies as a gift for the party. It should be fun I look forward to tonight.

Last night we went to a pool party at my boyfriend's apartment complex so we're quite the party animals this weekend so far. LOL! The pool party was rather warm but for me once we were out there for awhile I got used to it. Plus it helped that the sun went down soon after the pool party started.

Cowboys play tonight but we'll be busy. So it's unlikely that we'll catch any of the game. I must say I'm ready for pre-season to be done. Bring on the regular season!

Cody's Tanning Bed!

Oh it's never a dull day in the world of the pugs! Despite sleeping large portions of the day away there's always a few interesting moments. Some times it's pure joy type of moments. Playful puggie time! Other times it's not so joyful as the pugs get into a squabble, suddenly viewing their pug counterpart as their enemy. No matter what though it's entertaining. This morning featured some annoying moments for Cody.

I purposely chose an apartment that got very little direct sunlight. Our previous apartment got major afternoon sun and I wanted to avoid that with this apartment. My only regret is that Cody does love to bask in the sun on a daily basis. For the most part since moving to this place Cody has given up his suntanning ritual. However, just a few months back I discovered some nice sun rays come through the window of the spare room at a certain time each morning. I have now placed an old bed in front of that window. Every morning soon after the morning walk I go in the spare room and pull the blinds up just far enough so that the entire dog bed is getting the full amount of sun rays. Cody typically follows me in there and witnesses me preparing the blinds for his suntanning session. He then promptly lays down to enjoy.

Well, today he was busy getting a drink and when I called for Cody to come in the spare room I got Simon first, Cody second. I'm not sure why Simon feels the need to respond to Cody's name when Cody is busy but he always does. So Simon came in the spare room and immediately got cozy in the sunbathing bed. Cody moseyed in a moment later to discover his little brother in his area. He tried to find an area to lay down near Simon and still get the sun but that didn't work for him. He gave a long sigh! Meanwhile, Simon held his ground! Completely unfazed by his older brother's disapproval of where he lay. Cody left and went to another room. About 15 minutes later Simon emerged from the bed and the spare room. As soon as Cody saw Simon come out of the room he hustled off to re-claim his sunny bed. Cody then fell fast asleep in his "tanning bed".

And We're Off To The Texas Tennis Open!

The Texas Tennis Open is here in the Dallas area. It started on Monday. My boyfriend has made the scene once already and we are preparing to go later today. I'm drinking as much as I can now because it's going to be hot out there and I don't want to get dehydrated. I also don't want to get a sunburn.

It's a hot one today! I hope I'm ready to sit out in the heat for so long. I think being a former Zonie certainly comes in handy when it comes to being in the heat. At least I get to watch versus the players that are running around on the court. I will be anxious though for the sun to go down.

I'm certainly not new to sitting out in the heat. I've sat out in the August heat at pre-season Cardinals games and gone to some pretty hot Sun Devil games as well. As anyone from AZ knows just because September arrives doesn't mean you'll feel much of a difference in the temps until October. This will be my first ever tennis tournament to see. So I'm hoping for some good matches and just a simple fun evening with my boyfriend.

My Texting Like a Fool Mom!

I started texting my mom many months ago. Just a little text here and there. Usually a holiday type message or a picture mail message. Slowly but surely my frequency of texting her and her ability to text back has increased. For me, when I do use my cell phone it's most likely being used to text not chat. For my mom it's just the opposite. However, she has slowly but surely gotten better and better at texting. I think she recognizes the convenience of it. I have no doubt she prefers to talk rather than text but she's at least able to do both now! I'm fully impressed with my mom's texting abilities. Furthermore, I can appreciate that she now even thinks to text me random thoughts.

I think it's a convenient way to chat with someone especially when you're busy doing your daily routine. I'm glad she's gotten more and more comfortable with texting over the last few months. I now have a rather text-savvy mom! Look out world!

Much Needed Lazy Weekend!

It's been a much needed lazy weekend. No real plans just kicking back and enjoying ourselves. It's been nice! Baked some brownies yesterday which was fun. It's still super hot but we're dealing with it. Cody continues to dream about 78°...so do I. September is inching closer and closer!

We've watched quite a bit of tennis this weekend. I'm anxious for the U.S. Open that starts in 8 days. I will be glued to the TV during those 2 weeks. As of right now, I'm wasting time before the Cowboys pre-season game starts. I can't believe we don't get a pre-game. I'm spoiled to the pre-games and tonight there isn't one. Likely because it's nationally televised not just locally televised.

Just a little bit ago Cody was playing with his ball and it bounced into the fireplace. I had to immediately stop what I was doing and tune into the Cody Show. He's super funny to watch when a toy of his gets into a precarious spot. He delicately surveyed the situation while plotting his best strategy to retrieve his ball from the depths of the intimidating fireplace. The best part was watching how gentle he was about each move he made. As if he was in slow motion! LOL!!!!

If you haven't seen the movie Rio, it's a good one. If you are into animation that is. We both liked it. I would love to watch it again. I like the choice of animals that the movie centered around and the vivid colors. Most surprising part to us was that it made us laugh quite a bit too. I laughed more at Rio than I have at numerous Hollywood blockbuster comedies. Some Hollywood comedies make my boyfriend and I question how they classify them as comedies?

Various Thoughts!

Geez, didn't realize it had been so long since my last post. Been rather busy. Lots going on here. We got a brief reprieve from the hot temps over the weekend. Which was nice and it finally did rain. And boy did it rain! It poured!

Today was bath day for the pugs. They were starting to smell too much like real dogs so I had to bathe them. LOL! Now that I bathe them in the sink it's a breeze! Plus slippery little Simon isn't constantly looking for an escape route when he's up so high in a sink!

My DVR went out! I'm sure it's the DVR too. There's nothing wrong with the cable once the DVR is unconnected. I have yet to get it replaced as I've been meaning to take time to watch the items taped on my DVR. So I currently have basic cable since the TV only goes up to certain channels without the DVR box. The worst part is not being able to pause something. Oh well, I'm adjusting and it's not like I'm an avid TV watcher! If it wasn't for On Demand ExerciseTV I wouldn't even have the DVR. I actually considered getting rid of my DVR right before I discovered On Demand ExerciseTV...darn it! Now it's my fitness craze!

Tonight for dinner is Parmesan Crusted Chicken again. I'm having a craving for a simple chicken recipe and my seasoned potato wedges that I love to make. Plus I want to perfect my chicken dish some more!

DFW Happenings!

It's raining...it's pouring...Simon is snoring! Okay only one of those is true! Can you guess which one? My little Sime is snoring. He had his dinner and his after dinner walk and now it's time to get some ZZZ's.

I went to get my car washed today. Boy did it need it since it's been parked by sprinklers too many days in a row in an effort to grab some shade. As I was at the car wash I thought maybe now it will rain. I wouldn't be opposed to some rain even if it did mess up my freshly cleaned car. A couple of hours later I look out to see clouds rolling in. It was suddenly darker than usual and windy. The clouds looked like they meant business. I woke the boys up and made them do their rain dance which they gladly performed! LOL! Apparently it was all in vain because we never actually got any rain. However the day felt a lot better than it would've minus the clouds and wind. Rain is due in this weekend. So I hope it really does pour! Thanks to the slightly cooler temps the 1980 heat streak will NOT be broken. I'm certainly not shedding any tears over that fact! It's been the hottest summer on record since 1980 in big D.

Along with the news of the heat streak not being broken there's other things going on in Dallas. The Cowboys pre-game is currently on as their first pre-season game is against the Broncos. I'll be watching! Other news of the day is that the Governor has decided to run for President. That news is popping up everywhere, overshadowing the Cowboys for the moment. He plans on officially announcing his candidacy on Saturday. I was a little surprised just this past November he was re-elected. So for half of his new term he's going to be seeking the White House. Interesting!

Recipe Sharing Time!

Last night I made Parmesan crusted chicken. The first meal my boyfriend made for me was Parmesan crusted tilapia. It was my first introduction to tilapia. We have that same Parmesan crusted tilapia somewhat frequently. It's ready-made and makes a very easy entree you just have to add some sides to. Yesterday I randomly thought to myself, "What about Parmesan crusted chicken?" I began looking for a recipe. Most recipes I found added bread crumbs and some serious breading. I wasn't into that due to the fact that I wanted it to be as healthy as I could make it. I finally came up with the idea of leaving some of the heavy breading out. It was excellent! We both agreed this way of doing the chicken is a keeper!

Ingredients:
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
couple dashes of Italian Seasoning(optional)
couple dashes of pepper(optional)
1 egg
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
boneless skinless chicken breast( I had a 1 lb package which I made all of)

1) In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, salt, garlic powder, pepper, and Italian Seasoning. In another bowl, beat the egg. Place the Parmesan cheese in a third bowl. Coat the chicken in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg and roll in the Parmesan cheese.

2) Bake in a baking dish coated with cooking spray. Bake, uncovered at 375° for 20 minutes. I then switched it to broil and stood watch for the Parmesan to get slightly browned. It didn't take long but I didn't time that part.

Yum!! I served it with au gratin potatoes and green beans!

I'm ready for....

I am ready for...Football and Fall weather! I've had enough of the heat. I can hardly wait for the temps to begin dropping! People in general seem meaner in the hot summer days. That's possibly my imagination but I think it melts peoples brains. Lately when driving around town people just seem so mean in traffic. I got freaked out in traffic today!

One thing about walking the boys in the hot August heat is that they certainly don't disagree when I say it's time to turn around to head home. During nicer weather they are much more likely to want to keep on going. I read years ago that pugs have trouble withstanding anything hotter than 90 degrees so I keep my eye on them when it's super hot.

I'm also ready for some football! Tomorrow night is the first of the pre-season games. The Cowboys play and so do the Cardinals. I'm very anxious to watch some football. Woo-hoo!

Texas Foods I Crave!

The other night we went to Outback Steakhouse. I've never been there before. I was excited to go since I've heard great things about it. All I have to say is.....I can't believe I ate so much! I had the mixed grill which came with a small section of baby back ribs, 4 coconut shrimps, and a small barbecued breast of chicken. It was all AWESOME! Highly recommend trying Outback if you have not been there. The bread that was served before the meal was delish as well! A lot of times when I go to a restaurant I can't decide what to get but as soon as I opened the menu and spotted the mixed grill I was sold! It was a lovely date night for us! In many ways it was reminiscent of our first date! I love going out to dinner with my boyfriend and having those special reminiscent moments of our first date.

Now lets continue talking food! When I lived in AZ I obviously craved Mexican food a lot. Enchiladas and chimichangas...oh and the occasional rolled tacos at Filibertos. Now I've noticed it's barbecue that I crave.

I'm currently craving barbecue! I'm lucky to get through the week without indulging in a burger or some form of barbecue. I'm not talking a McDonald's or Burger King burger folks. I'm all about the Texas style hamburgers and barbecue. A Texadelphia burger or a Braum's one or a burger from Cheddar's, one of my ultimate fave spots to go. Cheddar's is my new Chili's! As for barbecue so far my faves are Rudy's and Sonny Bryan's.

Burgers and barbecue are the things I look forward to going out to eat now. Times have changed. I even like ribs now! Yeah, pork ribs! My mom will likely fall out of her chair after reading that I like pork ribs now. LOL! What can I say? I'm slowly but surely becoming a Texan! Same goes for Cody and Simon as I noticed they are starting to grow some longhorns! Lol!
