Quick Snap Sunday(this Sunday): Double The Birthdays!

Double The Birthdays!

Is this double the trouble? Nope, it was all good fun! Double the birthday fun that is! Let the serenading begin, which is exactly what was going on in the first two pics above. My in-laws celebrate their special days only 8 days apart so a combined birthday shindig was in order this past weekend.

We took them out to one of their fave restaurants then it was back to their place for gift openings and cake....of course! Plenty of cake. Two single layer cakes, one carrot and one lemon. I was absolutely determined to make a cake for each. Last year they had a combo pick for their cake. But this year I wanted to satisfy each of them as much as possible.

I love baking! I especially love baking cakes! Cakes/cupcakes, brownies, pies....likely my top 3 for things to bake! I promise the cakes were the same size despite the fact that my father-in-law's cake is showing up smaller in the pic. His was just presented a little different than the carrot cake. His lemon cake was my first ever attempt at lemon cake. I learned some things already so I'll perfect it in time! On our end a good time was had by all!

Happy Birthday mom and dad!

Quick Snap Sunday: Wes' Birthday

Wes' Birthday!

Okay this post should have appeared on this little blog last Sunday! Last weekend was a Wes weekend for us. He came over to stay, lots of gaming action went down. We also had an at-home movie night which was capped off with red velvet cake(his favorite). His birthday is in early January, despite us mailing his gift to him on his bday, I still wanted to take the opportunity since he was spending time with us to make sure he had a nice belated birthday dinner complete with cake. YUM! Good Times!

Munching Out!

Last night I walked into the spare bathroom to prepare the room for the boys to enjoy their Kongs. No Kongs on the carpet. Thankfully we have a relatively large spare bathroom, to the tile floor they are relegated to.

I'm standing in the middle of the bathroom getting things ready when I suddenly hear a noise from the spare closet. It was a strange rustling sound. I walk over to the closet(in our home our closets are off from the bathrooms not the bedrooms). Our spare closet is partly Piper's room. As soon as I look into the closet I call Piper's name. Out pops her head from behind things on a medium height shelf. Yes, she looked cute. But she was guilty as heck! I knew instantly what she was doing based on where in the closet she sat. She had made a hole in her brothers' food bag which is stored on that shelf and she was munching out. Oh geez!

I started in on disciplining her. Brad soon appeared to see what our cat-daughter had gotten into. As I finished reprimanding her, Brad walked away mumbling something about how I sounded like a drill sergeant. LOL! That's right little kitty...I am, mommy and drill sergeant of this household. Cats are tricky. They climb and they can fit themselves into the tightest areas possible. I never would have thought she would climb up to that shelf and discover her brothers' food. But she did! Can you tell I'm a little more used to the thought processes of dogs versus cats? If Simon only knew his little sis stole some of his food...he would've disciplined her too!

Quick Snap Sunday: Big Score!

Big Score!

Yep, we scored big at my favorite store. The only store I'm allowed in. Wait no, I go to two different stores regularly, Petco and Petsmart. I'm an avid shopper. LOL! I'm also a bargain hunter!

Look at how great I look in this pic. Go ahead and admire me, I'll wait until you are done admiring me to continue. Notice I'm looking directly at the camera whereas my brother is looking at who knows what? EARTH TO CODY!

When mommie put a few of the treats in the cart I nearly climbed my way out. She never pushes us from the handle at the back, she walks along next to the cart rolling us thru. According to her it's all part of her plan to keep me in the cart, away from raiding the shelves. Hmm, raiding shelves, does that really sound like me?....okay yes I admit, totally something I'd do if given the chance!

Shopping Experiences!

Despicable Me funny minion quotes of the day 033:

This may have been me recently! I try hard to be super strategic about the times I choose to go to Walmart. Because the place is always nuts! However, there are times when the madness can not be avoided. Generally, speaking for my Walmart shopping best time to go in my opinion....wait I can't let the secret out! LOL!

Ready For Football!

It's been awhile since I made my last post. Don't worry I didn't forget about this blog! I'm back to blogging!

Long week and now a long weekend is about to begin...woo-hoo! I can hardly wait. Whenever you know a long weekend is right around the corner doesn't it seem the days leading up to it drag on and on and on?

Okay so now that the holidays are over....are you ready for some NFL playoffs? I am! I was obsessing about the menu last night and earlier today. No matter what I was busy doing the menu and special foods to represent the teams were rolling through my head. Yes, I'm crazy. That's been documented. However, I'm the good kind of crazy. Yes, there's a good kind! The menu served tomorrow in this house will have a little something to represent the teams.

Side Note: I saw at the store they have Cowboys tableware. Everything you could possibly imagine to dress a table for a big Cowboys watching party. Hmm, may I remind the city of Dallas the Cowboys are currently on vacation because the owner doesn't believe Romo needs a quality back-up! Yes, I said it! And yes, I'll likely be in trouble with my husband later. Although I didn't say anything that was untrue! The Cowboys are not in the playoffs, therefore no need for Cowboys napkins and plates! Is anyone really going to buy those right now?

Just Hanging Out!

Here's a big difference between cats and dogs. Dogs never do this sort of thing! Or at least my boys never did. Neither of them was interested in toilet paper. Cats are much more curious. What can I hang on? What can I unroll? What kind of weird noises will this thing make?

Christmas Is Done!

I finally got all the Christmas stuff put away today. I tried getting it done sooner. But the days weren't long enough. Brad insists on Christmas decorations being up thru New Year's. Therefore, I typically wait until he goes back to work from the holiday. He doesn't help with putting Christmas decorations away. Never fear I have plenty of help. The world's best helper stands about 10 inches tall and is super observant! Yes, you guessed right...Simon is sous chef and Christmas décor assistant. Remember the pics from when we put up our Christmas tree? He was daddy's little helper assisting in putting the tree together and he was mommie's little curious helper this time around too.

It was kind of funny this past weekend I was talking casually with some other family members while out at granny's house when undecorating Christmas trees came up. Two other ladies at the table said their husband's refuse to help take down Christmas decorations too. Neither of them really understood why for their husbands. At least my husband did offer up a reason. His reason....it's too sad to put Christmas stuff away.

I enjoy Christmas and all of the holiday season but I'm always ready to move on to the next thing. Plus, I'll admit I like having our house back to the way it's supposed to look. And the fur babies like having more access to the windows! Not to mention now that I'm a married girl I focus much more attention on Valentine's day! Onward and upward...as my grandpa used to say!
