As I've mentioned before I have a pet gate that prevents the boys from jumping over the backseat and coming up front. Believe me if they could ride shotgun every time we went anywhere they would. If Cody could ride on my lap believe me he would. When the boys have been permitted to ride shotgun the number one problem is Cody attempting to crowd me. The other issue is Simon sitting on the middle console so he can see out. Balancing his little tushy ever so gently with each turn! Moments of them riding shotgun however have been few and far between.
We currently have the pet gate down in my SUV because we were moving some furniture between our 2 apartments. We have yet to put the pet gate back up. I never think about the fact that the pet gate is down until it's time to put the boys in there. Luckily they've been staying in the cargo area and not attempting to come over the backseat to get up front.
But when pet gates are down it is an open invitation for someone to break free from the cargo section. It was just mommie and Boo-Boo(aka Simon). After putting him in the cargo area I then got in the car, I don't believe had fastened my seatbelt before I hear Boo-Boo making his way up over the backseat. He was not about to sit in the cargo area without his best friend and big brother! When he arrived in the front seat the look on his face was...'you were kidding right? You didn't mean to put me back there when it's just us, right?'....I looked at his innocent little face and said, "Oh Boo-Boo what am I going to do with you?". No I didn't put him back in the cargo area. I let him ride shotgun the whole way. I know he loved it! And I'm sure in his own doggie language he bragged about it once he got home to his big brother.
Funny how he's content to sit in the cargo area with his big brother but not when it's just mommie and Sime!
That right there is the biggest difference in the two pugs. If you give Simon an inch he takes a mile! Cody on the other hand would never in a million years break the rules of the car unless completely terrified(which happened once) or given the right. Simon, my little mischievous daredevil!
