I've wanted to go to the zoo for quite awhile now. This past Saturday I finally got to the zoo. My first zoo outside of the state of Arizona! Can you believe I never went to the zoo in either of the two other cities I've lived in? I also never went to the zoo during numerous family trips to CA.
For this zoo experience, I went with my boyfriend and his parents. We had lots of fun! We met up at Mimi's Cafe for breakfast/lunch before heading off to the zoo. After ordering big meals we were ready to do some walking off.
The selection of animals was quite remarkable. Too many to name in one post. But I've never seen penguins, sharks, owls, cows, rhinos, white tigers, or kangaroos at the Phx zoo. I would say I enjoyed seeing the penguins, white tigers, Texas longhorn and kangaroos the most. However, there were some hysterical monkeys that we watched for quite awhile.
Most unique section of the zoo was Texas Town. It was a complete break from the zoo in many ways. It was as if you had entered an old west town when walking through the entrance of Texas Town. It had a museum-like building in the center that featured interesting facts about Texas. I was truly soaking up as much info as I could while I was in there. Here's what I learned:
state tree: pecan tree
state fruit: red grapefruit
state dish: chili
state dish: chili
state bird: mockingbird
state flower: blue bonnet
state mammal(small): armadillo
state mammal(large): Texas Longhorn
I already knew blue bonnets were the state flower. I learned that during my first few weeks here. I knew of the popularity of the armadillos, longhorns, and of course chili but was unaware that they are all official state symbols. Definitely the most educational trip to the zoo I've ever had. Although this time I was more interested in learning compared to previous zoo visits!
The most surprising things in the zoo were the restaurants and children play areas. In Fort Worth one can go to the zoo to enjoy a pizza from Pizza Hut, climb a rock wall, and play in sand if one so chooses to! Lol!
