The Outage

What is the worst thing to say to a diehard born and raised Dallas Cowboys fan? What is the worst thing to say to a husband in general? Lucky for me I have a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and a husband all rolled into one! So what is that HORRIBLE thing to say to such a person?  Well on a Thursday night about 90 minutes before the Cowboys game my husband had to endure his wife's lips uttering this dreaded sentence...."The cable is out!"

Imagine the horror! Are you imagining it? The kind of horror that makes a grown man cry. Brad instantly responded to my news by saying, "are you serious?"...Yes! Afraid so, I was unfortunately very serious. My first clue was when I went to use the phone to order pizza, since it was a big game we had company en route to our home to watch the big game of the night. The only NFL game of the night, might I add. Numerous men around the country look forward to Thursday night football no matter who is playing but when it's your home team, the anticipation is certainly amped up.

After fiddling with the cable for a few minutes. Yes, I thought to reboot the main cable box. Which for some reason wouldn't even go into reboot mode, it wasn't long before I resorted to calling the cable company. I had to do something, I needed a small miracle before my husband went nuts plus we have company that's going to go nuts too. There I am on the phone with the cable company and as soon as I enter in my address info my phone call was redirected to a special message. That special message informed me there's a major outage in Dallas county and technicians have been called in to fix the problem. "NOOOOO! Not tonight! Of all nights! Why is this happening?", exactly what my husband exclaimed when I broke the news to him. Perhaps a Minnesota fan cut the cable cords to the Dallas area...just kidding!

We waited for awhile, right up until game time, then we all piled in our SUV and went looking for a local restaurant/bar to watch the game at. This was no easy task, remember the county of Dallas is experiencing this cable outage. First things first, we had to find a restaurant that doesn't have same cable provider we have. Then we have to find a place that could accommodate our little group of people in a somewhat timely manner. We went to an area near our place we have termed "restaurant row". We drove up and down, quickly noticing the amount of people parking in nearby businesses and walking to restaurants because all the restaurant parking lots were completely filled. We somehow got lucky, snagging the only parking spot available at Boston's. Into Boston's we hurried. Loads of people everywhere. The staff seemed overwhelmed. Boston's was a great choice because they have TVs in the bar area plus in the main dining room. The bar was packed, people were even outside on the patio in the cold standing around the fire pits just to see the game. We quickly put our name on the list for a table in the main dining area. We stood in the entryway waiting and watching the TVs all around. We soon were seated and could finally order some food while watching the game.

The restaurants were clearly not prepared for the county to descend on them last night as they were running out of silverware, glasses, and plates. No one prepares for what occurred last night. I've never seen restaurants so BUSY! I mean BUSY! I felt sorry for the workers at the restaurants in a way.  I mean they were working their tails off. Yet, they likely made some of their biggest tips ever, because people probably recognized how hard things got for them and compensated them well.

Can you believe it? A HUGE cable outage affecting one particular provider in one entire county a mere 90 minutes before game time of a major Cowboys game. Enough to make any man, any husband, and any football loving female scream!!! It was an interesting night. A different way to watch a game. I'm not used to watching a game with a filled to capacity restaurant. Memorable night for sure! In case anyone was wondering the cable was fixed and came back on at 1:05 in the morning. Good thing we didn't wait around.

Just a little side note...one extreme problem about the technology of today, at least in the Dallas area, I do not like how everything is "plugged" into our main cable box. So if the cable goes out, so does our phone and our internet. When the cable goes we have nothing! I've never had to deal with that until I moved here. Oh well, such is life.
