Oh sugar and spice and everything nice, isn't it fun having a cat-daughter? Yes, 95% of the time it is fun. That 5% of the time she's a picky little thing that makes me want to pull my hair out.
A little over a month ago she was switched by the vet to a food addressing both weight management and hairball control issues. She seemed to like the first bag of the food. However days after opening the 2nd bag she suddenly decided she didn't like it anymore. Short-lived "like" on her part!
Clearly since my cat had taken a hunger oath I was forced to go buy her previous food. Brad then suggested we mix the two foods together. I thought that was a pretty smart idea, at least until the vet suggested food is used up. He remembers Storm loving it when he mixed food together for her. Well, Piper is not Storm. Honestly Piper and Storm are complete OPPOSITES...in every way! She didn't approve of mixing the foods. She would pick at the mixed bowl of food, only taking a few kibbles to keep herself from completely starving. So now after a few days I think I have it figured out.
Her old food is back and staying until she decides she isn't going to eat it anymore. Plus, she has been switched to "free feeding" like Landon. She's a copycat! For months now she's seen how he's been fed and it suddenly appeared she wanted to eat the same way. It was a scary thing for me to switch her to. However, here's the thing with her "free feeding", I trick her. I mean come on, of course I can outsmart my cat. She is part of the "free feeding" club...but...I measure out the food every morning. It's then her job to make it last all day. I'm surprised so far it's working so good with her. She has been "rationing" her food well, eating the majority of it in the morning and the rest little by little in the late afternoon and evening. Fingers-crossed all this continues!
Hopeful bonus to the free feeding...since she has her food available to eat all day long, my hope is she stops eating the puppy food! Why would she need to eat his food if hers is right there? Once again my fingers are crossed!
