It was a great Super Bowl in my opinion, our household was mainly for the Chiefs. Brad doesn't want to see San Francisco get anymore Super Bowl's. I have my own separate beefs about San Fran, mainly having to do with being a Cards fan. Anyway, our household was for the Chiefs. The game was great. I especially enjoyed the 4th quarter.
Zero complaints about the game. There were no touchdown dances, did anyone notice that? I think the stage of the Super Bowl likely overwhelms players and they are more focused as a team. Perhaps it's a good thing there weren't any touchdown dances. However, that being said there was dancing at the Super Bowl. Oh mercy that halftime show was uncomfortable to watch. I'm not sure if I've felt "uncomfortable" watching a Super Bowl halftime before? Somebody please inform me why?...why?...when female performers are given such an honor as performing at the Super Bowl does it have to become all about sex/sexuality? Why? The messages sent to little girls and women everywhere last night was that grabbing yourself, bending over to show off your "assets", dressing like a hooker, and swinging around a stripper pole are things for women to do, forget about showcasing talent. How are we to empower young girls if that's the message being sent by female performers? That halftime show was not about talent. It was not about the years of hard work and dedication it's taken for J. Lo and Shakira to get to where they are at. It was all about displaying how "sexy" and desirable they are. Shakira did not even sing...she was lip-syncing. Such an opportunity to show true talent, true vocal abilities along with nice APPROPRIATE dancing. Well respected dancing can be done. We need to change our opinion of what is "sexy" and how it is shown. That performance did not affirm women or empower women in any way. Disappointing to say the least. To use my husband's words, "trashy" and "classless".
I am not a parent to a human child but let me tell you if I was, my kids would have been taken out of the room during that halftime show. It was not appropriate for children to see, not family friendly...in my opinion. We actually joked about covering Landon's eyes! Brad even playfully did cover his eyes at one point. As I already stated...disappointing that two more female performers missed a big opportunity to showcase their talent instead of only showcasing their "assets".
Side Story...After watching a few minutes of Shakira performing my father-in-law joked, posing the question of, "what is next? Are they going to have strippers?". About 3 minutes after he joked about that J. Lo was swinging around a stripper pole and two other ladies did the same on each side of her. I guess he accurately predicted how the show was going.
