More Traumatic For Whom?

Cody has been under the weather. Cody is clearly a fragile little dude! Without a doubt during his lifetime he has visited the vet more times than his younger brother. Simon is a tough guy. When he's down for the count you know it's bad. Cody is dramatic no matter what it is, it could be a hangnail and he'd be convinced he was near death. Despite the fact he can't even get a hangnail.

I don't believe it's ever been exciting/enjoyable/fun to take a sick pet to the vet. However, there's a clear difference taking a pet that is in his seasoned years of life compared to taking a pet that is a young buck. Now when I take the boys to the vet, I'm the one that is convinced right along with Cody that he is indeed dying. Oh sure I put a brave face on for my little guy. But make no mistake about it I worry about what I'm going to be told once they get checked out.

Cody has had this horrible cough. And I mean horrible cough since Friday. When Brad first heard it he instantly stated he'd never heard a dog make that noise before. Cody has likely kept both of his siblings up each night. I searched around this past Friday to find some old meds from the first time he was treated for a cough. I thought he was showing signs of improvement. Brad disagreed. Since the old meds were about to run out, today was the day to take Cody-man to the vet. Now when you take your dog into the vet with a cough. They are immediately taken away. To exile Cody and I went. The fear of kennel cough is outrageous so that is why a coughing dog gets treated as a MAJOR disease to the pet population. I knew it wasn't kennel cough. But whatever! We have other pets, if it was kennel cough all 3 of the kids would be down for the count. So there I am with Cody laying in my arms in the same way I would hold a 3 month old human baby. We're in exile and I'm thinking to myself, "Who is this more traumatic for...Cody or me?". Geesh!

I'm ecstatic to report first off Cody is not dying from this cough. I was apparently doing what I should for the little guy. He was given a brand new prescription of the same meds I had already started him on. He will also be going back on allergy meds daily too. I was told he could have Zyrtec or Allegra, it doesn't have to be Benadryl. I'm not a fan of giving him Benadryl for a prolonged period of time because it makes him so sleepy. Zyrtec it is. I'm surprised Zyrtec and Allegra are deemed safe enough to give to pets. I definitely learned something today.

Glad the appointment is over. I dreaded it all day! Dreaded hearing something horribly bad.

When I returned home with Cody, Piper was all about checking him over. Which he didn't much appreciate. Simon saw me leave with Cody so he wasn't as eager to welcome him home. Piper was sleeping at the time I dropped by to get Cody, therefore when he returned, her actions said, "oh there you are! Been wondering where you went!" The trio seems happy to be reunited! All are currently gazing out the window in close proximity to one another.
