Sugar and spice and everything nice, oh isn't it fun having a cat daughter. My sweet Piper has been rather sick this week. She has slowly improved as the week has progressed. Somebody left her bag of treats out when he went to bed Sunday night. Another little somebody decided to break into the bag then eat almost the entire contents. When I awoke the next morning and discovered what was left I was just hopeful her system could handle it. This little girl of ours has ZERO self control. That's exactly why I do not believe in leaving food down or within reach of pets. Very few fur babies can stop themselves when given the chance to pig out.
As a result of her over consumption she has spent the week sick as a dog and she's a cat...so use your imagination as too how sick she's been. She was puny on Monday! My grandmother used to use the word "puny" to describe not feeling completely 100%. Puny, is the perfect term for Piper this past Monday. When Tuesday arrived it was frightful. I am so glad I have experience with pets and I did not freak out. I simply did my best to take care of her and monitor her closely. Tuesday was definitely the worst of it! Yesterday she was improving but not as quick as I'm used to fur babies improving. But I know cats are different than dogs and take more time to get over things. So again I remained cautiously optimistic.
She steadily improved as the day progressed yesterday. However, she's a cat and cat's are weird! Sorry Piper but you know it's true. When cats get that sick they usually demand a change in food. They just flat out refuse to eat more than a few bits to keep themselves going. Yet they whine and cry like a baby for food. So there I was today at Petco reading nearly every label on every cat food they had in the building. I then decided I wasn't too impressed with their offerings and went around the way to a Petsmart. Once again, I read nearly every label in the Petsmart. Finally after too much deliberation, I came away with a new food for my Pipe-Pipe. My brain hurts! I feel like a dork in one way reading all the labels and being so picky. But bottomline, I want her to have good nutrition.
I have been through this before a few times with Storm. When she would get sick she blamed her food and refused to eat until we bought her something new. Piper did the same thing one other time two years ago. It's like they lose faith in their food. Or they blame their food for making them sick and they refuse to eat it ever again. Obviously it was the overindulgence of treats and the bits of the treat bag Piper likely ingested as she broke into the bag...that's what made her sick! What is left of her previous food I'm fully confident in still. But Piper won this battle! She has a new food!
I'm happy to report she already had a little snack of her new food. Which she loved! I hope to get her fully back on her normal eating schedule by tomorrow. As for this evening, my plan is to give her two more tiny meals today. Has she learned an important lesson to not overindulge? Probably not! She's too much like SIMON! And the bad part is, his pug belly could take a lot more then her little cat belly. Cat's systems are naturally more sensitive than dog's systems! Think about it, dogs eat rawhides and pig skin chews...yep, big difference in systems.
