Life with 2 Pugs and a Kitty (part 1)

Life with a kitty is fun!  A bit frustrating at times I will admit too.  Overall though I wouldn't trade her in! ;)  I'm happy Brad found her.  I'm happy we decided to keep her.  It felt as though she was meant to be here with us from the second he brought her into our home.  I'm not sure Cody and Simon have the same sentiment towards her. I believe they are content having her here. Yet I believe Simon misses pre-Piper life too.  To be fair, I don't doubt there were many years Cody missed pre-Simon life!  LOL!

Cody is quite the disciplinarian!  He would have been a good pug daddy to a litter of pugs if someone had given him that opportunity.  He schools and scolds little Piper!  They definitely have a connection.  She respects him!  Simon is his own little dude!  He has such a high wall up most of the time it's not easy for Pipe to break down that walk to establish any type of connection with him.  He generally just wants to be left alone. A few weeks ago we noticed Simon kept disappearing.  We knew he couldn't go far yet he wasn't in sight.  We would find him in the spare closet that's connected to our 2nd bathroom.  He was climbing up to sleep on top of all 3 pet beds carefully stacked in the closet each morning after the pets have gotten up for the day.  Our household features "nighttime beds" and "daytime beds" for our "kids".  The nighttime beds are collected then stacked in the closet every morning.  I guess he was in need of some "alone time".  We started to discourage him going off by himself for his alone time moments so his alone time has ceased for now.

Piper is giving Cody some competition in the night owl department.  Cody has commonly been the one that loves to stay up with his dad until the wee hours of the morning. Cody's completely content sitting in his bed in the living room with Brad while he plays video games. Now with Piper around, she'll stay up until we put her to bed.  She sleeps well, never meows to get up until she hears me up in the morning.  I'm thankful for that!  Simon is the early bird in all ways!  He's early to bed and early to get up.  And he expects his meals earlier than he gets them too!  Simon is honestly like living with a rooster.  His rooster ways came in handy one day last week when the morning alarm failed to sound!  After all these years Simon still puts himself to bed each night.  He's put himself to bed since he was a puppy.  He does allow himself to stay up later then when he was a puppy! LOL!  At about 9:20 every night during his puppy years he disappeared to his bed.  For years I walked the boys at 9:00 pm so Simon could go to bed at his preferred time. I used to get up super early so going to bed earlier was a must.  Nowadays we are night owls.  I married a night owl!  I had to completely revert back to my college life "night owl" days once Brad and I were under one roof.

We can hardly wait to get Piper-Pipe de-clawed!  Yes, those claws are going bye bye just as soon as she's old enough to have the procedure done.  She'll be old enough in April.  At least she lets me trim her nails.  She got her nails trimmed this afternoon!  I can't go near the boys with nail clippers.  Apparently in their minds I have been permanently banned from trimming their nails. Pugs are known for hating to get their nails trimmed.  However, early in their puppy years there was one particularly bad incident.  I cut Cody's nail way too short after he jerked his paw as I clamped down on the nail.  He started bleeding pretty bad, Simon watched the entire scene develop.  Since then Simon has booked a ticket out of town each time I've attempted to come near him with nail clippers.  Ever seen a dog visibly sweat?  Well get some doggie nail clippers out and go towards Simon, then watch the sweat beads pour off his brow!  I'm not kidding! Poor thing!  I scared him for life and he didn't even get hurt that day!

Though I believe Hyper-Piper emulates Cody more often than Simon.  In one particular area she reminds me of Simon....mealtime.  As soon as she hears new food pellets hit her bowl she comes running!  Don't call her or Simon late for mealtime! LOL!

I'm most thankful that everyone accepts everyone!  The boys might get annoyed with her, but they aren't mean to her in any way!  We do not have to separate them from her while we leave either.  They all hang out together when mom and dad are gone.  The pugs have been very accepting to us adding a kitty. I think it helps tremendously though that there's two of them.  Less chance of jealousy developing, they have each other.  Plus they're older, they've been around a long time.  They understand their place in our family.  I'll try to post some pics in the coming days!
