Well I moved here nearly 5 years ago, during that time I have cheered for all the local teams. I've become quite the fan of all the local teams including the universities in the area and within the state. I have shirts hanging in my closet in support of all 4 major sports teams. I'm geared up for the most part! For the Mavs I even have summer and winter appropriate gear! ;) Last night Brad and I watched some of the Mavs-Suns game. The Suns lost a heartbreaker. At the conclusion of the game I cheered that the Mavs won. It could be an especially important victory when it comes to play-off positioning in a few months. Brad was rather surprised I was so for the Mavs. He reminded me that I'm from AZ. He asked, "You're happy your home team lost?" I promptly replied, "My home team won, my hometown team lost." He was completely satisfied with that correction!
Perhaps the conversation from Friday night is what led my husband to purchase a TCU shirt for me while he was out with a tennis buddy this afternoon. When he brought it home to me, at first glance I gasped a little. I'm not going to lie...my first thought was....'I can't wear that! I'm still a Sun Devil!' So there I was a few minutes later trying on my TCU shirt that says: "Fear the Frog" and features a picture of a horned frog. Geesh! I almost couldn't breathe correctly. I fake pretended to be gasping for air as I showed Brad my new shirt! LOL!
For some reason it was not hard at all to adopt the local professional teams as my new teams to cheer for. It hasn't been hard watching and keeping up with many of the Texas universities either. This is a Texas and TCU household. We don't cheer against Texas A&M as fiercely as a Sun Devil cheers for a Wildcat to lose but the strong preference is for Texas Longhorns. Simon even has an orange shirt to sport his Texas Longhorn pride! ;) That being said, I hadn't taken the step to showing my preference for any Texas university. All this time and not a single Texas university shirt in my closet. Apparently in my mind I'm now a Texan yet I've still got my Sun Devil pride intact. After presenting me with the TCU shirt Brad quickly stated I don't have to feel like I have to wear it out in public but he at least thought it was time for me to have a TCU shirt. Well folks I plan on wearing it in public! This is home now! I guess it's time to show my support for the Texas universities. Next up is a Texas Longhorn's shirt. That being said my Sun Devil support has not waivered. It's still COMPLETELY there! Same goes for the Cardinals! Unfortunately my support for the Suns has shifted a bit. I only cheer for the Suns if the Mavs aren't playing them. I'll also cheer for them should they make the play-offs and the Mavs don't.
However, since I've got a TCU shirt now I think it's time for Brad to have an ASU shirt! Who agrees with me? One with Sparky bigger than life in the middle! Just kidding he finds it slightly disturbing that a devil is ASU's mascot. We need to start him out small...an ASU shirt that is simple, simply states ASU with a small logo feature preferably with the pitch fork logo not Sparky. LOL!
